An Analysis on the Relationship between Game and Happiness (게임이 청소년 행복도에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • This study analyze the relationships between game and adolescent's happiness. By survey of middle school and high school students in Pusan, this study want to find how playing game influences the happiness of middle school and high school students. In result, playing game and having a good grade influences adolescent's happiness. But whether one is good at game and how long one plays game are not the factors which influences adolescent's happiness. The adolescents who play game are more happier than the adolescents who don't play game. And playing game is more important factor to adolescent's happiness than having a good grade.

Is Does Failure Mindset Transmitted through Generations?: The Dual Mediating Effects of Mother's Happiness and Mother-Adolescent Open Communication (실패 마인드셋은 세대 간 전승되는가?: 어머니의 행복감과 개방적 의사소통의 이중매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between failure mindset of the mother and adolescent, along with the mediating effects of mother's happiness and mother-adolescents (first and second-year middle school students in Seoul) open communication. For this study, self-reported data of 270 mother-adolescent dyads were analyzed using SPSS and Process macro Model 6. The results revealed that the mother's failure mindset directly predicted their adolescent's failure mindset. The mediating effect of the mother-adolescent open communication was significant, but the mediating effect of the mother's happiness was not significant. However, the mediation effect of the mother's failure mindset on the adolescent's failure mindset through mother's happiness and mother-adolescent open communication was significant. These results suggest that "failure-is-enhancing" mindset of mothers improve their positive affect and parenting skills, which contributes to developing adolescent's belief system about failure. Putting the results together, this study is significant in that it identified the intergenerational relationship of the failure mindset. Besides, the study results serve as a foundation for intervening on the adolescent's failure mindset by verifying the developmental mechanism of the failure mindset.

The Study on the Causal Relationships of Social Supports, Self-esteem, and Happiness of Adolescent Athletes- Focusing on the Mediation Analysis Using Process Macro (청소년 운동선수들의 사회적지지와 자아존중감 및 행복감 간의 인과적 관계 -Process Macro를 적용한 매개효과 검증을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among social support, self-esteem, and feelings of happiness of adolescent athletes. The subjects of this study were 191 adolescent athletes and 196 general high school students, 387 all together. The questionnaires were used and the data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 and SPSS Process Macro. The results were as follows. First, it was found that adolescent athletes were highly aware of social support than those of general high school students, and both self-esteem and happiness were highly recognized. Second, social support had a positive and significant direct effect on self-esteem. Third, self-esteem had a positive and significant direct effect on happiness. Fourth, social support did not have a direct effect on happiness, but it had an indirect effect on happiness through self-esteem. Based on this, it is considered that it's recommended to prepare specific plans to improve students' happiness in the future.

The Moderating Effects of Interpersonal Competence in the Correlation between Academic Stress for Adolescents and Happiness (청소년의 학업스트레스와 행복의 관계에서 대인관계 유능감의 조절효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of interpersonal competence on the effects of academic stress on happiness of adolescents. For this research a survey on academic stress, interpersonal competence, and happiness was conducted with a total 487 high school students living in Daegu city. The collected data was statically processed by using SPSS 20.0 according to frequency, descriptive statistics, and multi regression analysis. The main results can be summarized as follow. First, Academic stress affected the adolescents' happiness. The higher the level of academic stress was, the smaller the adolescent's happiness. second, between academic stress and happiness, conflict management and disclosing personal information played a moderating role to reducing the academic stress. That is, it was confirmed that interpersonal competence played a moderating role on the effect that academic stress had on adolescent happiness. In conclusion, this study can be practically applied as basic information to increase happiness on adolescents. In addition, the results provided valuable insights for developing program the intervene for adolescents' happiness.

Factors Affecting Suicidal Ideation in Multicultural Adolescents: The Mediating Role of Happiness (다문화가정 청소년의 자살생각 영향요인: 행복감의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between internet addiction, depression and suicidal ideation among adolescents from multicultural families. Methods: 1,065 adolescents from multicultural families who participated in the 16th (2020) Adolescent Health Behavior Survey were selected as the final subjects for the study, and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: There was a fully mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between internet addiction and suicidal ideation of the adolescents from multicultural families (F=6.65, p<.001). There was a partial mediating effect of happiness in the relationship between depression and suicidal ideation of the adolescents from multicultural families (F=10.01, p<.001). Conclusion: To mitigate the suicidal ideation of adolescents from multicultural families, it is necessary to develop and apply a positive psychological treatment program that enhances happiness for adolescents from multicultural families who are experiencing internet addiction and depression.

The Moderating Effect of Happiness on the Relation between Stress and Generalized Anxiety in Adolescents (청소년의 스트레스와 범불안 관계에서 행복감의 조절효과)

  • This study was conducted to verify the moderating effect of happiness in the relationship between stress and generalized anxiety in adolescents. The subjects of the study were 54,948 middle and high school students who participated in the 16th Adolescent's Health Behavior Survey conducted in 2020. Data were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and Process Macro 4.0. The results of the study showed that stress had a significant effect on generalized anxiety of adolescent. The higher the stress, the higher the level of generalized anxiety. And it was found that happiness moderated the relationship between stress and generalized anxiety. In other words, it was confirmed that happiness has the effect of buffering the negative impact of stress on generalized anxiety. Therefore, in order to alleviate generalized anxiety in adolescents, it is recommended to prepare and implement various programs that can improve happiness.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between internet game addiction and psychiatric symptoms. Methods : A total of 447 adolescents who were recruited from a child and adolescent psychiatric clinic of university hospital completed a self-report questionnaire consisting of Korean Internet Addiction Self-scale (K-scale), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Korean-Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale (K-ARS), and Adolescent Happiness Index (AHI). They were classified into three internet user groups, non-addicted group (below or equal to 94), potential risk group (95 to 107) and high risk group (above or equal to 108) according to K-scale total score. Results : Significant mean differences in BDI, BAI, K-ARS, and AHI scores were observed among the three groups. The BDI, BAI and K-ARS scores showed positive correlation with K-score. The AHI score showed negative correlation with K-score. Conclusion : Findings of this study suggest that depression, anxiety, inattention, hyperactivity/impulsivity, and happiness are associated with internet game addiction.

The Mediating Effects of Negative Automatic Thoughts on the Relationships between Father's Communication Style and Children's Happiness (아버지 의사소통과 아동의 주관적 행복감의 관계 : 부정적 자동적 사고의 매개역할)

  • The present study investigated the mediating effects of negative automatic thoughts on the relationship between the communication styles of fathers and their children's happiness. The participants consisted of 509 elementary school (225 5th, 6th graders) and middle school (284 1st, 2nd graders) students in Seoul and Jeonju city. The instruments used were the Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory (Barnes & Olson, 1982), the Korean Children's Automatic Thoughts Scales (Moon, 2002), and the Happiness Inventory for Children (Lee, 2005). Data were analyzed by means of both descriptive statistics and regression analysis using the SPSS (12.0 version). The results indicated that the effects of a father's communication style on children's happiness was partially mediated by their negative automatic thoughts. In conclusion, negative automatic thoughts has a mediating effect upon a father's communication style as it relates to the happiness of their children.

Children's and Adolescents' Perceptions of Happiness (아동 및 청소년이 지각하는 행복에 대한 인식 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of the perceptions and conditions of happiness between children and adolescents, and also of the perceptions of happiness according to their needs level of the conditions of happiness. There was a total of 649 participants, of which 405 were children and 244 were adolescents, all of whom were attending elementary school, middle school, or high school. The children and adolescents completed a questionnaire on the perceptions of happiness and the conditions of happiness which consisted of 57 (for children) or 58 (for adolescents) items. The results were as follows: First, children and adolescents both felt happy regarding the variables of 'flow', 'health and appearance', 'leisure' and 'interpersonal relations'. However, it was found that children felt happier than adolescents. Second, children and adolescents perceived achievement-related variables as important conditions of happiness. Additionally, variables of 'relations with parents and relatives' and 'positive emotions' were the conditions that children needed. However, adolescents rated the needs of the conditions of happiness higher than children. Lastly, children and adolescent groups who perceived the necessity of the conditions of happiness at a high level were found to be happier than those who perceived the necessity of the conditions of happiness at a low level. The findings have implications of providing educational, psychological and environmental support to improve the happiness of children and adolescents.

The Influence of Manner Leadership on Happiness of Adolescents (청소년의 예 리더십(禮 Leadership)이 행복감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the concept of manner leadership for adolescents based on the manner of the East and leadership of the West. Also, it is to investigate the influence of manner leadership on happiness of adolescents. For this, manner leadership was developed through literature review, focus group interview, empirical study, in-depth interview, exploratory factor analysis, and confirmatory factor analysis. The sub-dimensions of manner leadership consisted of time management, academic performance, goal attainment and citizenship behavior, communication, family relationship, social relationship, image management and conflict resolution. The data were obtained by administering a self-reported questionnaire to high school students residing in Seoul. Statistical analyses were carried out using SPSS and AMOS. The main results of the study can be summarized as follows. First, the level of the adolescents' manner leadership tended to be more than average. In addition, they were good at image management but time management was absolutely lacking among the sub-dimension of manner leadership. On the other hand, it appeared that the adolescents' happiness level was lower than the manner leadership. Second, the result of the study was that the manner leadership was positively correlated with happiness of adolescents. Finally, happiness of adolescents was affected on these variables, such as grade, self-efficacy, emotional intimacy between mother and adolescent, time management, goal attainment, communication, and family relationship. Based on this study, it is expected that the manner leadership programs for enhancing happiness for adolescents would be developed.
