  • This paper presents a new adaptive autopilot for ships based on the Adaptive Neural Networks. The proposed adaptive autopilot is designed with some modifications and improvements from the previous studies on Adaptive Neural Networks by Adaptive Interaction (ANNAI) theory to perform course-keeping, turning and track-keeping control. A strategy for automatic selection of the neural network controller parameters is introduced to improve the adaptation ability and the robustness of new ANNAI autopilot. In Part II of the paper, to show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed ANNAI autopilot, computer simulations of course-keeping and track-keeping tasks with and without the effects of measurement noise and external disturbances will be presented.

  • In this paper, we designed a cascade adaptive filter for elimination of the baseline drift and the distortion of the filtered signal. The cascade adaptive filter(CAF) consists of two filters. The first adaptive filter which has the cutoff frequency of 0.3Hz eliminate the noisy signal. The second adaptive filter remove the remnant baseline drift which is not eliminated by the first adaptive filter. Comparing the performance of the CAF with standard filter, recursive notch filter(RNF) and a adaptive impulse correlated filter(AICF), the CAF showed a higher performance in removal of the baseline drift than standard filler, and RNF. Also, considering the distortion of filtered signal, CAF is better than AICF and is comparable to the standard filter.

  • This paper is devoted to investigating direct adaptive neural control of nonlinear systems with uncertain or unknown dynamic models. In the direct adaptive neural networks control area, theoretical issues of the existing backpropagation-based adaptive neural networks control schemes. The major contribution is proposing the variable index control approach, which is of great significance in the control field, and applying it to derive new stable robust adaptive neural network control schemes. This new schemes possess inherent robustness to system model uncertainty, which is not required to satisfy any matching condition. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed leaning algorithms and direct adaptive neural networks control schemes, intensive computer simulations were conducted based on the flexible joint robot systems and functions.

  • Backlash is common in mechanical and hydraulic systems and severely limits overall system performance. In this paper, the development of an adaptive control scheme for systems with unknown backlash is presented. An adaptive backlash inverse based controller is applied to a plant that has an unknown backlash in its input. The harmful effects of backlash are presented. Compensation for backlash by adding a discrete adaptive backlash inverse structure and the gradient-type adaptive algorithm, which provides the estimated backlash parameters, are also presented. The supposed adaptive backlash control algorithms are applied to an aircraft with unknown backlash in the actuator of control surfaces. Simulation results show that the proposed compensation scheme improves the tracking performance of systems with backlash.

  • In hands-free telephone systems, the received speech signal is fed back to the microphone and constitutes the so-called echo. To cancel the effect of this time-varying echo path, it is necessary to device an adaptive filter between the receiving and the transmitting ends. For a typical FIR realization, the length of the fullband adaptive filter results in high computational complexity and low convergence rate. Consequently, subband adaptive filtering schemes have been proposed to improve the performance. In this work, we use deterministic approach to analyze the relationship between fullband and subband adaptive filtering structures. With block adaptive filtering structure as an intermediate stage, the analysis is divided into two parts. First, to avoid aliasing, it is found that the matrix of block adaptive filters is in the form of pseudocirculant, and the elements of this matrix are the polyphase components of the fullband adaptive filter. Second, to transmit the near-end voice signal faithfully, the analysis and the synthesis filter banks in the subband adaptive filtering structure must form a perfect reconstruction pair. Using polyphase representation, the relationship between the block and the subband adaptive filters is derived.

  • The adaptive IIR filters is more effective than adaptive FIR filters which have the same order of IIR filters. But the IIR filters may have stability problems especially when the adaptive algorithm is not converged. In this paper, a stabilizing procedure for adaptive IIR filters is proposed, and computer simulation is performed to show the effectiveness of proposed schemes.

  • In an interference environment, adaptive sidelobe blanking(adaptive SLB: ASB) algorithm effectively cancels the high-duty cycle jammer and blocks the sidelobe signals without the auxiliary antenna. The adaptive SLB for the linearly constrained minimum variance (LCMV) is proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the interference covariance matrix is modified to satisfy the direction constraints of LCMV and the normalized output can be obtained to block sidelobe signals. As the LCMV can be represented as a generalized sidelobe canceller(GSC) form, which is the general framework of various adaptive beamforming(ABF) algorithms, the proposed adaptive SLB can be applied to various ABF methods. The performance of the proposed method is verified through simulation and analysis.

  • Adaptive signal processing is used to acoustic echo canceller. adaptive noise canceller and adaptive algorithm among adaptive algorithms is mainly used because the structure is simple and computa LMS algorithm has trade-off between the converge speed and the steady state error. In this paper, step-size of adaptive algorithm is varied with orthogonality Principles of optimal filter to get fasts though small steady state error. Time varying step-size is determined proportional to the maximum vector of LMS algorithm. As results of simulations, the adaptive algorithm with proposed time-v compared with conventional ones.

  • Remote sensing through atmospheric turbulence had been hard works for a long time, because wavefront distortion due to the Earth's atmospheric turbulence deteriorates image quality. But due to the appearance of adaptive optics, it is no longer difficult things. Adaptive optics is the technology to correct random optical wavefront distortions in real time. For past three decades, research on adaptive optics has been performed actively. Currently, most of newly built telescopes have adaptive optical systems. Adaptive optical system is typically composed of three parts, wavefront sensing, wavefront correction and control. In this work, the wavefront sensing technology for adaptive optical system is treated. More specifically, shearing interferometers and Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors are considered. Both of them are zonal wavefront sensors and measure the slope of a wavefront. . In this study, the shearing interferometer is made up of four right-angle prisms, whose relative sliding motions provide the lateral shearing and phase shifts necessary for wavefront measurement. Further, a special phase-measuring least-squares algorithm is adopted to compensate for the phase-shifting error caused by the variation in the thickness of the index-matching oil between the prisms. Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensors are widely used in adaptive optics for wavefront sensing. It uses an array of identical positive lenslets. And each lenslet acts as a subaperture and produces spot image. Distortion of an input wavefront changes the location of spot image. And the slope of a wavefront is obtained by measuring this relative deviation of spot image. Structures and measuring algorithms of each sensor will be presented. Also, the results of wavefront measurement will be given. Using these wavefront sensing technology, an adaptive optical system will be built in the future.

  • The conventional adaptive hysteresis band current control technique has disadvantages such that on-line calculation of the hysteresis band is very complex, therefore, the adaptive hysteresis band must be stored in the look-up table. In this paper, a new simplified adaptive hysteresis band current control technique with phase decoupling is presented. The adaptive band is independent of the back EMFs. Using this adaptive band and the phase decoupled current error, the modulation frequency is fixed at nearly constant and the PWM inverter has optimal switching pattern.
