어머니의 양육행동 및 유아의 성과 기질이 유아의 부적응행동에 미치는 영향 (Influences of Sex, Temperament, and Maternal Attitudes on Children's Maladjustment Behavior)

  • The objective of this study was to analyze children's maladjustment behavior as related to sex, temperament, and the mother's maternal attitudes, and to characterize the relative influence of these variables on the maladjustment behavior of 3-5 year old children in early child education centers. The subjects were recruited from Gwangju City, and included 217 mothers, and the teachers of their children. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSSWIN(12.0) for Cronbach's alpha, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis. The major findings are as follows; 1. Statistically significant differences existed in the maternal overprotective attitude group with regard to anxiety and withdrawal behaviors. 2. Boys evidenced more aggression, inattention, impulse, and anxiety behaviors than did girls. 3. The activity and adaptation factors of temperaments were significantly different. Increasing activity was associated with increasing aggressive behavior. Increasing adaptation was associated with higher levels of distraction. 4. In terms of maladjustment behaviors in the aggregate, the sex of the children appeared to be the most salient influencing factor, and the activity factor of children's temperament also exerted a significant influence, explaining 13% of maladjustment behavior.

걸음마기 아동의 기질 및 어머니의 양육행동과 사회적 위축 및 공격성 간의 관계 (Relations among Toddlers' Temperament, Maternal Parenting, and Social Withdrawal and Aggression)

  • This study examined the relations among toddlers' temperament, maternal parenting, and toddlers' social withdrawal and aggression. One hundred and two mothers of two-year-old children (49 boys and 53 girls) completed questionnaires and Q-sort. Data were analyzed by correlation analyses and regression analyses. First, toddlers' pleasure was negatively related to social withdrawal, while social fearfulness was positively related to social withdrawal. Also, toddlers' activity level and anger proneness were positively related to aggression. Second, the encouragement of independence in maternal parenting was negatively linked to toddlers' social withdrawal, and maternal rejection was positively linked to toddlers' aggression. Third, toddlers' pleasure and interest/persistence were positively associated with mothers' encouragement of independence, and toddlers' activity level and anger proneness were positively associated with mothers' rejection. Finally, mothers' encouragement of independence acted as a mediator between toddlers' pleasure and social withdrawal. Also, toddlers' activity level and anger proneness influenced aggression through maternal rejection. These results indicate that toddlers' temperament and maternal parenting play crucial roles in the development of toddlers' maladaptive behaviors such as social withdrawal and aggression.

기질과 환경 간의 조화로운 합치모델 검증연구(II) - 조화로운 합치와 아동의 자기능력지각 - (A Test of Goodness of Fit Between Temperament and Context(II) : Goodness of Fit and Children's Perceived Competence)

  • This research focused on the examination of a "Goodness of Fit" model with reference to the interaction effects of temperament and context. Two hundred forty 5th graders from urban and rural areas were administered the EAS (Emotionality, Activity, Sociability) and the Perceived Competence scales. The degree of satisfaction of mothers with their children's temperament was assessed for the context measure. Results of hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that the interaction of children's emotion and mothers' satisfaction with children's emotion explained perceived social competence and general self-worth. This result supported the goodness of fit model. However, interaction effects were not found in children's perception of cognitive and physical competence. Also, children's activity and sociability showed strong main effects on perceived competence. It implies that activity and sociability should be applied to the personological model. The implication of the findings for following studies of goodness of fit model were discussed.

어머니의 양육스트레스와 유아의 문제행동의 관계에서 기질의 조절효과 (Moderating Effects of Temperament on the Association between Maternal Parenting Stress and Behavioral Problems in Preschool Children)

  • This research investigated the moderating effects of children's negative emotionality, activity and sociability on the relation between maternal parenting stress and children's behavior problems. Participants consisted of 1,667 preschool children from the fifth wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children. EAS was used to measure the children's temperament. Mothers reported parenting stress and children's behavior problems. The results revealed that the magnitude of association between relation between maternal parenting stress and children's behavior problems was greater for high levels of negative emotionality and activity as well as low levels of sociability. The results support a diathesis-stress model in which high negative emotionality, activity and low sociability confer vulnerability for preschool children in a high stress family.

유아의 기질과 자기조절능력에 따른 문제행동 (Behavior Problem According to Children's Temperament and Self-Regulation)

  • The purpose of this study was (1) to investigate the difference of temperament, self-regulation, and problem behavior according to children's gender and age, (2) to investigate the relationship among three variables by use of canonical correlation analysis. The subjects were 210 children ages from 3 to 5 in five day-care center in Incheon city. The SPSS WIN 12.0 Program was used to analyze the collected data. The statistical methods were Frequency, Percentage, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Two-way ANOVA, Correlation analysis, and Canonical Correlation analysis. The major results of this research are summarized as follows: (1) Children's temperament were significantly different by their gender and age. The boys got higher score than girls in adaptability, activity, and total temperament. Girls got higher score than boys in reactivity. The age 3 got higher score than the age 5 in activity and the ages 3, 4 got higher than the age 5 in total temperament. (2) Children's self-regulation were significantly different by their age. The children who were older got higher scores in self-regulation ability. (3) Children's problems behavior were significantly different by their gender and age. The boys got higher score than girls in anxiety behavior, aggressive behavior, hyperactive/distractive behavior, and total problem behavior. And the ages 3, 4 got higher score than the age 5 in anxiety behavior and hyperactive/distractive behavior. The age 4 got higher score the ages 3, 5 in aggressive behavior and the age 3 got higher score the ages 4, 5 in total problem behavior. (4) Canonical correlation results showed that stable temperament and self-regulation were positively correlated and self-regulation and problem behavior were negatively correlated.

아동의 기질과 대안적 문제 해결사고 전략의 발달과 그 관계에 관한 연구 (The Relation Between Development of Children's Temperament and Alternative Problem Solving Strategies)

  • This study examined the relation between children's interpersonal problem solving strategies and their temperament. Two hundred and fifty nine children of the 3rd and the 5th grades were chosen from 3 elementary schools as the subjects. Data from two hundreds and six children were analysed. Alternative problem solving strategies as one of children's interpersonal problem solving strategies and their temperament were analysed according to their grade, sex, and the target persons. Children showed age and sex differences in using strategies; the 3rd graders used more solutions than the 5th graders in affirmative strategies and the girls used more solutions than the boys in affirmative strategies, but showed no differences in using negative strategies. In temperament, the 3rd graders were higher in Persistence than the 5th graders, the boys were higher in activity and the girls were higher in mood. Temperament of the children had relations with their using alternative problem solving strategies when the target persons were peers or teachers but not mothers. Persistence and mood, which are the subcategories of temperament had relations with affirmative strategies for the 3rd graders.

산모의 산후우울 여부에 따른 영아의 기질과 건강문제 (Infants' Temperament and Health Problems according to Maternal Postpartum Depression)

  • Purpose: Mothers' postpartum depression is a worldwide health concern that produces compromising effects on their infants. This study was conducted to compare the infants' temperament and health problems according to the presence of maternal postpartum depression. Methods: Data were collected from May to October in 2009. The sample was 137 mothers at one month postpartum. The Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) was used to assess depressive symptoms. Results: At one month postpartum, 22.6% of mothers were classified as having postpartum depression. Infants of depressed mothers were more frequently classified as difficult temperament infants. They showed lower scores on the amenability, rhythmicity and persistency and higher scores on activity in temperament. Also, infants of depressed mothers reported more infant health problems at one months. Maternal depression showed significant negative correlations with family functioning, social support and marital satisfaction. Conclusion: Study findings show that postpartum maternal depression is associated with infants' temperament and health, and thus screening and early interventions for postpartum depression would promote the health of both the mother and infant.

저소득층 유아의 기질과 탄력성과의 관계: 어머니의 애정적 양육행동의 중재효과 (The Relationship between Temperament and Resilience in Preschool Children from Low-Income Families: The Moderating Effect of Maternal Warmth)

  • The object of this study is to examine the relationship between temperament (emotionality, activity, sociability, and shyness) and the resilience (social competence and language ability) of preschool children from low-income families and the moderating effect of maternal warmth. The subjects were 86 low-income preschool children (42 girls and 44 boys; mean age, 70.57 months), their mothers and teachers, recruited from five daycare centers in Namyangju city and Ansan city located in Gyeonggi-do area. Each child's language ability was individually assessed with with the standardized measure, Preschool Receptive-Expressive Language Scale (PRES) and their teachers reported on children's social competence and parents reported on their child's temperament by questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed by correlation analysis and hierarchical regression. The main results of this study were as follows. First, children's emotionality in temperament and maternal warmth had main effects on social competence. Second, only monthly income level and sex had main effects on language ability. Third, maternal warmth moderated the effects of children's shyness in temperament on social competence and language ability as resilience. Findings could provide basic information for programs to promote resilience in preschool children from low-income families.

과학영재아와 일반아의 기질 및 시험불안과의 관계 (The Temperament and Test-Anxiety of Science Gifted and General Students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 과학영재아의 기질특성을 분석하고 이 기질 특성이 시험불안과 어떤 관계가 있는가를 알아보는 것이다. 연구대상은 대학부설과학영재교육원에서 교육받고 있는 92명의 중학생 과학영재아들과 97명의 전주시내에 소재한 중학교 1학년 일반아들이다. 측정도구는 개정판기질차원척도(Revised Dimensions of Temperament Survey: DOTS-R)를 사용하였다. 연구결과 과학영재아는 일반아에 비하여 집중성, 지속성 및 접근성 기질이 높게 나타났다. 이에 비하여 일반집단은 활동성, 융통성, 긍정성 기질이 높게 나타났다. 또한 영재아와 일반아의 우세기질에 대한 검증 결과 기질 특성에 유의한 차이가 있었는데 과학영재집단은 지속성 기질이, 일반집단은 융통성 기질이 우세기질로 나타났다. 과학영재아와 일반아의 기질 특성과 시험불안의 상관관계분석에서 과학영재아는 접근성, 지속성이 부적상관을 보였고, 일반집단은 집중성이 부적상관을 보였으며, 활동성은 두 집단 모두에서 정적상관을 보였다. 즉 활동성 기질은 시험불안을 높이는 요인으로 작용하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과는 과학영재아를 판별하기 위한 목적보다는 그들의 기질적 특성을 최대한 파악하여 과학영재의 기질특성에 맞는 학습활동을 제공하는데 활용되어져야 할 것이며 연구결과의 일반화를 위하여 대상범위를 확대할 필요가 있다.

문제 해결 과정에서의 어머니-유아 상호작용과 관련 변인: 애착과 기질 (The Relationship of Child Attachment and Temperament to Mother-Child Interaction during Problem Solving)

  • Mother-Child Interactions during Problem Solving were analyzed in relation to the child's attachment security and temperament. Subjects were fifty-three 44-to 57-month-old children and their mothers. Attachment security was assessed by Attachment Q set (Waters, 1987); mother-child interactions were observed at home, and maternal ratings of child temperament were collected by questionnaire (Chun 1993). Attachment security scores were positively related to mother's cognitive assistance and positively interactions with the child and to the child's positive affect toward mother. The child's activity perceived by mother was negatively related to mother's efficient interactions and positively to the child's "reliance on mother." The child's behavior toward the mother in the task session and the child's temperament added variance above attachment in accounting for the mother's behavior.
