Due to the aging of the population, the number of the elderly is increasing, and the nuclear family is rapidly progressing. Today's AI speakers respond to user's commands rather than conversations that occur on a daily basis. If the elderly living alone do not talk first, the usability of the AI speaker will decrease. In this paper, it describes the development of AI speakers for active interaction tailored to the aged. This speaker can identify the movements of the elderly who live alone and their surroundings, actively speak to them, and display emotional expressions appropriate to the content of the conversation. Through this, users will be able to anthropomorphize AI speakers, so they can feel familiarity and emotional conversation is expected to play a positive role in easing their loneliness.
Self-driving vehicles are increasing as new alternatives to solving problems such as human safety, environment and aging. And such technology development has a great ripple effect on other industries. However, various problems are occurring. The number of casualties caused by self-driving is increasing. Although the collision of fixed obstacles is somewhat decreasing, on the contrary, the technology by active obstacles is still insignificant. Therefore, in this study, in order to solve the core problem of self-driving vehicles, we propose a method of extracting active obstacles on the road. First, a center scene is extracted from a continuous image. In addition, it was proposed to extract activity obstacles using activity size and activity repeatability information from objects included in the center scene. The center scene is calculated using region segmentation and merging. Based on these results, the size of the frequency for each pixel in the region was calculated and the size of the activity of the obstacle was calculated using information that frequently appears in activity. Compared to the results extracted directly by humans, the extraction accuracy was somewhat lower, but satisfactory results were obtained. Therefore, it is believed that the proposed method will contribute to solving the problems of self-driving and reducing human accidents.
This study aimed at examining the mediation effects of depressive symptoms on the association between social activity participation and marital satisfaction among couples in later life. The study included 1,196 married couples aged 65 or above who participated in the 7th Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging in 2018. The study variables were husbands' and wives' social activity participation, marital satisfaction, and depressive symptoms. Covariates were individual age, education level, subjective health, couples' household income, and number of children. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Mediation Model (APIMeM) and bootstrapping techniques were used to test the significance of the mediating impacts of depressive symptoms based on the dyadic data structure. The results showed that for both husbands and wives, active participation in social activities had significant effects on increasing marital satisfaction through lowering depressive symptoms. However, only the participation of husbands in social activities was positively associated with their own marital satisfaction by reducing their own and their partner's depressive symptoms. These findings suggest that the active social participation of individuals salient for promoting the quality of marital relationships in later life, particularly for preventing their own and their spouse's depressive symptoms.
Recently deep learning models are widely used for various tasks such as facial recognition and face editing. Their training process often involves a dataset with imbalanced age distribution. It is because some age groups (teenagers and middle age) are more socially active and tends to have more data compared to the less socially active age groups (children and elderly). This imbalanced age distribution may negatively impact the deep learning training process or the model performance when tested against those age groups with less data. To this end, we propose an age-controllable face synthesis technique using a feature decomposition to classify age from facial images which can be utilized to synthesize novel data to balance out the age distribution. We perform extensive qualitative and quantitative evaluation on our proposed technique using the FFHQ dataset and we show that our method has better performance than existing method.
Countries around the world are making active efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Korea is also pursuing a policy of abolishing aging coal power and converting it to LNG power generation. However, in Korea, gas turbine manufacturing technology has not been localized, so all of it is imported and installed from overseas manufacturers. Therefore, this paper examines the domestic and foreign environment of the gas turbine power generation industry and proposes a strategy to develop and expand the supply of Korean gas turbine technology by applying the PEST-SWOT-AHP methodology. As a result of the research, the strategy to develop and expand the supply of Korean gas turbine technology can be summarized as 1) strengthening the role of power generation public enterprises to develop and promote commercialization of gas turbine technology, 2) expanding the proportion of LNG power generation to reduce greenhouse gases, 3) the government's active efforts to create an ecosystem for the gas turbine industry, and 4) forming a public consensus on the construction of LNG power plants.

In this study, cosmetic materials were developed using a new method of making juice through the fermentation of raw natural materials with microorganisms in order to supplement the advantages and disadvantages of an organic solvent extraction method and a microbial fermentation method. The natural products were selected from two colors (red, green) of paprika known to be rich in various colors and vitamins. The microorganisms used for fermentation were fermented by inoculating paprika with lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum) having sugar-hydrolyzed ability. First, we investigated the changes of physiologically active substances of two kinds of paprika juice and two kinds of fermented paprika juice. Total phenols content and total flavonoids content were higher in the fermented paprika juice than in the paprika juice, and especially in the fermented red paprika juice. Free radical scavenging effect and lipid peroxidation inhibitory effect were also showed an excellent antioxidative effect on paprika fermented juice, among which the effect of red paprika fermentation juice was the highest. The expression of MMP-1 in fermented red paprika juice with high antioxidant activity was inhibited by concentration-dependent expression of MMP-1 mRNA and MMP-1 protein. In the glycation experiments with aging, the anti-glycation effect of fermented paprika juice was highly inhibited by the production of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), which was closely related to the antioxidant effect. In addition, the activity of senescence-associated ${\beta}$-galactosidase (SA-${\beta}$-gal), an indicator of cell senescence, was measured using human dermal fibroblast (HDF). The results showed that the cell senescence was inhibited when the cells were treated with fermented paprika juice. In conclusion, fermented paprika juice using lactic acid bacteria showed better antioxidative and anti-aging effects than paprika juice. Among them, fermented red paprika juice has the best antioxidant and anti-aging effect and can be applied as natural new material of antioxidant and anti-aging.
Oxidative stress is an important causative factor in several human chronic diseases, such as atherosclerosis, cardiovascular disorders, mutagenesis, cancer, several neurodegenerative disorders, and the aging process. Phenolics and tannins are reported to be good antioxidants. Anogeissus latifolia (Combretaceae) bark has been used in the Indian traditional systems of medicine for curing a variety of ailments, but scientific validation is not available till date. Hence the present study was undertaken to isolate antioxidant compounds by activity-guided isolation. Inhibtion of diphenyl picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) and Xanthine oxidase along with photochemiluminescence assay were used as bioassay for antioxidant activity. Activity guided isolation was carried out using silica column and the compounds were quantified using HPLC. Ethyl acetate and butanol fraction exhibited potent antioxidant activity. Bioassay-guided isolation led to isolation of ellagic acid (1) and dimethyl ellagic acid (2) as the main active compounds, which along with gallic acid were quantified by HPLC. Thus we conclude that these three major tannoid principles present in A. latifolia, are responsible for the antioxidant potential and possibly their therapeutic potential.

The small coastal vessel registered in Korea, small coastal vessels with a gross tonnage of 10 tons or less account for 94.6 % and among them, aged vessels over 16 years age indicate 40.6 %. In order to reduce GHG emissions from small coast vessels, discussions are underway to replace aging ships' propulsion units with eco - friendly propulsion facilities, and the electric propulsion ship is emerging as one of the measures. The electric propulsion system using the DFE rectifier, which was applied in the conventional large commercial vessel, was effective in reducing the harmonics and improving the DC output voltage of the DC link stage, but it occupied a large volume and caused an increase in the overall system price. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an electric propulsion system using AFE rectifier with a small volume of system that can be applied to a small coastal vessel. In order to analyze the effectiveness of the overall system, the load profile was applied to obtain accurate and rapid speed tracking performance of the propulsion motor affected by the speed load. In addition, the power factor and total harmonic distortion factor of the voltage and current on the improved power output side are derived through simulation.
The field of redox proteomics focuses to a large extent on analyzing cysteine oxidation in proteins under different experimental conditions and states of diseases. The identification and localization of oxidized cysteines within the cellular milieu is critical for understanding the redox regulation of proteins under physiological and pathophysiological conditions, and it will in turn provide important information that are potentially useful for the development of novel strategies in the treatment and prevention of diseases associated with oxidative stress. Antioxidant enzymes that catalyze oxidation/reduction processes are able to serve as redox biomarkers in various human diseases, and they are key regulators controlling the redox state of functional proteins. Redox regulators with antioxidant properties related to active mediators, cellular organelles, and the surrounding environments are all connected within a network and are involved in diseases related to redox imbalance including cancer, ischemia/reperfusion injury, neurodegenerative diseases, as well as normal aging. In this review, we will briefly look at the selected aspects of oxidative thiol modification in antioxidant enzymes and thiol oxidation in proteins affected by redox control of antioxidant enzymes and their relation to disease. In order to investigate the effects of 70% EtOH extract obtained from Hovenia dulcis Thunberg on enzymes relating reactive oxygen intermediate, cancer-stricken animals induced by DEN (N,N-diethylnitrosamine) were recovered by administering the extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg. It showed that there was no effect on the generation of superoxide radical by the extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg. However, considering the increase of the activity of Cu, Zn-SOD and Mn-SOD in the tested animal class, the extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg could participate directly in removing of superoxides. The experimented-animals treated with the extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg showed an increase in the activity of the enzymes, catalase and glutathione peroxidase, which can eliminate hydrogen peroxide pertained in liver tissue. The extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg seemed to have some factors that accelerate the oxidation. Also, the extract of Hovenia dulcis Thunberg showed effects on the enzymes relating to the active oxygen toxicity which could be an indicator of aging and body toxicity.
