  • This paper presents a moving mesh method for solving the hyperbolic conservation laws. Moving mesh method consists of two independent parts: PDE evolution and mesh- redistribution. We compute numerical solution of shallow water equation by using moving mesh methods. In comparison with computations on a fixed grid, the moving mesh method appears more accurate resolution of discontinuities.

  • The main aim of this paper is to discuss the difference between the Euler-Maruyama's approximate solutions and the accurate solution to stochastic differential delay equation. To make the theory more understandable, we impose the non-uniform Lipschitz condition and weakened linear growth condition. Furthermore, we give the pth moment continuous of the approximate solution for the delay equation.

  • An exponentially accurate nonconforming spectral element method for elasticity systems with discontinuities in the coefficients and the flux across the interface is proposed in this paper. The method is least-squares spectral element method. The jump in the flux across the interface is incorporated (in appropriate Sobolev norm) in the functional to be minimized. The interface is resolved exactly using blending elements. The solution is obtained by the preconditioned conjugate gradient method. The numerical solution for different examples with discontinuous coefficients and non-homogeneous jump in the flux across the interface are presented to show the efficiency of the proposed method.

  • A multigrid DADI method for low Mach number preconditioning method is presented. The eigenvalues of governing equations are modified by A low Mach number preconditioner developed by Choi & Merkle, and it results in an accurate solution and fast convergence In the low Mach number region. The convergence of numerical method is further accelerated by multigrid method. The efficient and accuracy of present method is shown by comparison with conventional solution method for the compressible flows.

  • The author derives a general explicit formula and presents an heuristic algorithm for solving Baker’s model. The examples show that this new approximate solution procedure for determining near optimum inspection intervals is more accurate than the ones suggested by Chung (1993) and Vaurio (1994), and is more efficient computationally than the one suggested by Hariga (1996). The construction and solution of the simplest profit model for an exponential failure distribution were presented in Baker (1990), and approximate analytical results were obtained by Chung (1993) and Vaurio (1994). The author will therefore mainly devote the following discussion to the problem of further approximating optimum inspection intervals.

  • Conventional back propagation learning is generally characterized by slow and rather inaccurate learning which makes it difficult to use in control applications. A new multilayer perception architecture and its learning algorithm is proposed that consists of a Kohonen front layer followed by a back propagation network. The Kohonen layer selects a subset of the hidden layer neurons for local tuning. This architecture has been tested on the inverse kinematic solution of robot manipulator while demonstrating its fast and accurate learning capabilities.

  • Isogeometric solution of Poisson equation is provided. NURBS (NonUniform B-spline Surface) is introduced to express both geometry of structure and unknown field of governing equation. The terms of stiffness matrix and load vector are consistently derived with very accurate geometric definition. The validity of the isogeometric formulation is demonstrated by using two numerical examples such as square plate and L-shape plate. From numerical results, the present solutions have a good agreement with analytical and finite element (FE) solutions with the use of a few cells in isogeometric analysis.

  • Robot inverse kinematics solution is a complex nonlinear equation and very time-consuming task. This paper propose to use TSK fuzzy reasoning for solving robot inverse kinematics. A fuzzy model of inverse kinematics is identified by using input-output data and the model is used to solve the inverse kinematics. To show that, when used in robot inverse kinematics, fuzzy model is simple and generates a fairly accurate solution, a fuzzy model of inverse kinematics for PUMA robot is constructed.

  • A solution for the course of the general deterministic epidemic model is obtained by elementary series expansion. This is valid over all times, and appears to hold accurate]y over a very wide range of population and threshould parameter values. This algorithm can be more efficient than either numerical or recursive procedures in terms of the number of operations required to evaluate a sequence of points along the course of the epidemic.

  • An on-line refractrometer made of easily obtainable materials is built to determine the salinity and temperature of sea water, and its performance is examined by applying the refractometer to known salt solution. Since refractive index and temperature are measured simultaneously, it is possible to compensate the effect of temperature for accurate measurement. The outcome of salinity measurement for the different concentrations of salt solution indicates that the device is suitable for the salinity measurement by yielding stable and reproducible reading.
