Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a Nursing Competency Scale in Simulation (NCSS) for nursing students. Methods: A preliminary version of the NCSS of 14 items was derived from the literature. A panel of seven experts reviewed the preliminary version for content validation and developed 15 items scale. A convenient sample of 195 nursing students completed the survey and two evaluators measured the performances of nine teams in a simulation scenario with NCSS. The data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis, descriptive statistics, independent t-test and Cronbach's alpha. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used in order to estimate the degree of inter-rater reliability. Results: An exploratory factor analysis demonstrated that two factor structures of the NCSS explained 51.1% of the total variance. Two factors were named psychosocial skills and cognitive and psychomotor skills. The mean scores of NCSS between third and 4th grade were significantly different providing support for its known-group validity. Cronbach's alpha was .90 and ranged from .79 to .88. The overall ICC for inter-rater agreement was 0.89 (95% CI 0.03 to 0.98). Conclusion: This scale shows preliminary evidence for validity and reliability. It could be a useful instrument for measuring learning outcome in simulation for nursing students' clinical competency.

PBL is a process and an effective educational tool that empower the student to be an active participant and emphasize a clinical context for learning, developing skills in working with a group, and encouraging self-directed study. The purpose of this study was to develop the PBL module based on lung cancer case, and to evaluate after implementation. The data on lung cancer patients at C university hospital in K city were collected from interviews and nursing records in June, 1999. A PBL module was developed including situation scenarios, timetable and tutor guide. PBL course was conducted at C university for short term period (3 days) in August, 2000. Fourteen nursing students at C college were participated in this study and they were divided into two small groups. I explained them about the PBL course through a preparatory meeting. At a stage of implementation, two groups went through the same process consisting of seven steps with group meetings and self-directed study. Their performances of identifying, stating problems and presenting referred resources were evaluated and supervised by researcher. The PBL course was evaluated by them with questionnaire and essay. Most students responded positively about PBL course and preferred the tutors in a supportive attitude. However, 3 days for PBL course seemed not enough for maximal educational benefits, and many possible problems were discussed. It is necessary for nursing educators to accumulate lots of knowledge and skills regarding creating good working problems and implementing and evaluating diverse PBL tutorials to test the feasibility changing to PBL curriculum.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify types of peer feedback in nursing skills performance training and to investigate emotional response, perceived quality of feedback and self-efficacy for learning from peer feedback. Methods: A total of 110 second-year nursing students attending fundamentals of nursing classes at a university participated in 2017. Participants received peer feedback from one selected colleague who observed their skills performance, and completed a questionnaire. Contents of peer feedback video recordings were transcribed and classified into seven types of feedback. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation. Results: Participants mostly received feedback of 'correcting' and 'providing information.' Positive emotional responses from peer feedback were above medium, and negative emotional responses were low. The perceived quality of peer feedback was moderate and self-efficacy for learning was high. Quality of feedback correlated with negative emotional response (r=-.24, p=.014), and self-efficacy for learning (r=.35, p<.001). Self-efficacy for learning correlated with intimacy with peers (r=.24, p=.011) and positive emotional response (r=.21, p=.028). Conclusion: The results suggest that peer feedback in skill training could be used in terms of emotional response and self-efficacy for learning.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Korean Bereavement Care Confidence Scale (K-BCCS). Methods: The Perinatal Bereavement Care Confidence Scale (PBCCS) was translated into Korean according to an algorithm of cultural adaptation process and excluded six items which were specific to perinatal bereavement. A total of 229 clinical nurses participated in the study. Construct validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and group comparison validity were evaluated, and Cronbach's α was calculated to estimate the reliability of the K-BCCS. Results: The K-BCCS consisted of 31 items in 7 factors, including knowledge and skills for bereavement care (12 items), organizational support (6 items), awareness of the needs (3 items), interpersonal skills (3 items), workload influence (2 items), continuous education (2 items), and understanding the grief process (3 items). The factor loading of 31 items within the 7 factors ranged from .60 to .86. For the convergent validity, the construct reliability (CR) ranged from .74 to .94, and the average variance extracted (AVE) ranged from .49 to .73, which is considered acceptable. The discriminant validity showed that the AVEs of the subscales were greater than the square of the correlation coefficient r. The nurses who had experience providing bereavement care (t=4.94, p<.001) or had received bereavement education (t=6.64, p<.001) showed higher K-BCCS values those without experience. The Cronbach's α of 31 items was .93 and ranged from .60 to .94 per subscale. Conclusion: The K-BCCS is a valid and reliable tool for evaluating nurses' confidence in bereavement care.

Purpose: This descriptive study aimed to identify the contribution of nurses' communication styles, nurse-mother partnerships, and mothers' anxiety levels to the coping of mothers of hospitalized children, with the goal of establishing effective intervention strategies based on these factors. Methods: Data were collected using a structured questionnaire from July 12 to October 29, 2018. The study's participants were 200 hospitalized children's mothers in the pediatric ward of a university hospital. Results: The coping of hospitalized children's mothers showed a significant relationship with nurses' informative communication style (r=.26, p<.001), affective communication style (r=.28, p<.001), nurse-mother partnership (r=.50, p<.001), authoritative communication style (r=-.28, p<.001), and mothers' anxiety (r=-.23, p=.001). A multiple regression analysis (adjusted R2=.32) indicated that the factors affecting the mothers' coping included nurse-mother partnership (𝛽=.47, p<.001), another caregiver (yes) (𝛽=.17, p=.006), and mothers' subjective health status (very healthy) (𝛽=.15, p=.047). Conclusion: Considering that the formation of cooperative partnerships between mothers and nurses found in this study had a positive effect on the mothers' coping skills, it appears necessary to develop and implement programs for improving nurses' communication skills and ability to form partnerships, beginning from undergraduate education.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether there is a difference between an online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with the ARCS model and a conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program in promoting nursing students' learning motivation, knowledge of community psychiatric nursing, communication skills, and learning self-efficacy. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The participants were 44 nursing students at three nursing colleges in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The experimental group was provided the online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model, while the control group was provided the conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program from July 9, to September 3, 2022. Both groups received practice training 8 hours a day, 5 days two weeks. The collected data were analyzed using the exact χ2, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Quade's two-way ANCOVA with the IBM SPSS Statistics 28.0 program. Results: The results of the comparison of an experimental group training with the online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model and a control group training with the conventional community psychiatric nursing practice program showed that, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in learning motivation knowledge of community psychiatric nursing, and learning self-efficacy. However, communication skills were statistically significantly higher in the experimental group (F=6.23, p=.017). Conclusion: The online-based community psychiatric nursing practice program with ARCS model can be used as a substitute learning to improve community psychiatric nursing capabilities in situations when clinical practice is suspended due to infectious diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019 or when is a shortage of community psychiatric nursing practice institutions.

The research paper presents the results of an experimental research of the development of critical thinking in third-year students majoring in 013 "Primary Education" in studying a special course "From Reflection to Self-Assessment: Critical Thinking Skills" (based on Lauren Starkey methodology). The research was conducted during the first half of 2019-2020 academic year. The sample representativeness was ensured by the method of random selection, the strategy of randomization according to the criteria of age, gender, level of academic performance was described. Given the confidence interval p=95% and the confidence interval of the error Δ=±0.05, the sample size was 94 people, including of the experimental group and 49 students of the control group. The peculiarities of the development of such critical thinking skills as reflective thinking, self-analysis, awareness of one's own achievements and shortcomings, choice of problem-solving strategy, use of cognitive models of learning are revealed. It was found that the development of critical thinking was achieved through a comprehensive combination of self-assessment and reflection, performing exercises to develop the ability to clearly articulate the problem, find, analyse and interpret relevant information, draw the right conclusions and explanations.

Purpose: This study aims to comprehensively assess the characteristics and effectiveness of immersive virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) in nursing education among nursing students and nurses. Methods: A thorough search was conducted in seven databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, RISS, KMbase, and KoreaMed) for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published in English or Korean before February 20, 2024. The quality of the included RCTs was assessed using the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for randomized trials. A random-effects model was applied for the meta-analysis using Review Manager 5.4. Results: Out of the 15,840 studies extracted, ten were selected. Of those ten, the majority (six, 60%) were conducted on education dealing with specific nursing situations. In addition to the use of immersive VR or AR during nursing education, lectures, debriefing, and discussion processes were applied together, and device usage orientation was also provided. The meta-analyses showed that immersive VR or AR in nursing education significantly improved knowledge (standardized mean difference, SMD=2.64; 95% confidence interval, 95% CI=1.10~4.17) and skills (SMD=0.58, 95% CI=0.02~1.15). Conclusion: Immersive VR or AR in nursing education can effectively enhance knowledge and skills. However, for their development and implementation, various factors should be considered, and these findings are expected to provide valuable evidence regarding that concern.
