This study aims to investigate the relationship between university library usage and educational achievement of academic library users. To proceed with this study, academic library usage data were collected from S university undergraduate students. Academic achievement was measured using the students' grade point average(GPA). T-test and analysis of variance were used to compare differences of means between library usage and academic achievement with the background variables. Hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to determine the association between library usage and academic achievement. As a result, a positive correlation was found between academic achievement and the use of library resources and services according to gender, year and academic subject. In addition, academic library usage had a positive significant influence on academic achievement. Students who used more library resources and facilities ultimately get better grades.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine relationships between academic achievement, clinical competence, and confidence in the clinical performance of nursing students, and to identify factors that influence them. Methods: This was a descriptive correlation study. Data were collected from 118 nursing students at a nursing college in Seoul. One-way variance analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to examine relationships between academic achievement, clinical competence, and confidence in clinical performance. Results: Clinical competence was related to academic achievement in students' previous semester and to students' academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course. Clinical competence showed a weak positive correlation with academic achievement in students' previous semester and academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course in both evaluations by the professor and students' self-evaluations. However, confidence in clinical performance had no significant correlation with academic achievement. The factor affecting the clinical competence was academic scores in a fundamental of nursing course, and factors affecting confidence in clinical performance were health status, personality, major suitability, and class satisfaction in a fundamental of nursing skills course. Conclusion: These findings indicate that students with high academic achievement have better clinical performance, but confidence in clinical performance is not related to academic achievement.
This study used the data of students from the 6th grade to the 3rd grade of middle schoolin the Korean Educational Longitudinal Study 2013 and classified them into subgroups with similar longitudinal changes in math academic achievement. In addition, the influence of longitudinal changes in the group's academic self-concept and teachers and parents academic support on the longitudinal changes in math academic achievement were analyzed, either directly or indirectly. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the academic self-concept of each group had a positive influence on the academic achievement in mathematics. In addition, the academic support of teachers and parents was found to have a positive influence on the academic achievement in mathematics through the mediating of the academic self-concept. In terms of direct and indirect influence on academic self-concept and math vertical scale scores, it was found that teachers' academic support had more influence than parents' academic support. The educational implications of these points were discussed.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to explore the academic failure experiences of Korean Medicine Students. The academic failure in a medical school is defined as the situation the student who have academic failure need to repeat their academic year again. Methods : Data were collected through in-depth individual interviews from April to May 2016 and analyzed through Colaizzi's phenomenological methodology. The participants were interviewed twice, for 30minutes to 60minutes per interview. Results : Eight theme-clusters of were identified from 21 themes. The theme-clusters were 'Dream of university life and freedom', 'Meeting Stranger academic field and growing study stress', 'Difficulty of self-management', 'Weak supporting system', 'Feeling of guilty, sense of isolation and decreasing in self-esteem', 'The experience during the vacation after the academic failure', 'The experience of returning to school' and 'Self growing through hard experience'. Conclusions : Understanding of academic failure experience of Korean Medicine Students is an important approach to counsel them and an important way to reach a good model of education at a medical college.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of demographic data, academic demand, perfectionism, and academic failure tolerance on academic burnout of medical and graduate students at Yeungnam University. A mixed method study was conducted. Fourteen students participated in a focus group interview and 302 students, including 151 medical students and 151 graduate students, completed a survey, which addressed the factors of academic burnout, academic demand, perfectionism, and academic failure tolerance. There were significant differences in the academic burnout by age and year in school. The 2nd year medical & graduate students experienced significantly higher academic burnout than the other students. Multiple regression analysis revealed that academic burnout of medical and graduate students was significantly affected by academic demand (p<0.001), self-oriented and socially-prescribed perfectionism (p<0.001, p<0.01), and feeling and behavior, which were sub-factors of academic failure tolerance (p<0.05, p<0.01). It is suggested that comparative studies with other student groups, a longitudinal study of medical and graduate students, and a prospective study of coping styles and methods of preventing academic burnout need to be conducted.
This study determines what affects the academic achievement of senior high school students in the context of the individual, family, and school environment. The sample selection consisted of 1484 high school seniors in Korea. The following are the results of this study: First, female students scored higher in academic achievement than male students. Second, academic achievement by male students was related to levels of school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength, while academic achievement by female students was related to levels of parents' education, family income, ego-resiliency, school satisfaction, academic motivation, and family strength. Third, the most important predictor of academic achievement for male and female students is academic motivation, followed by school satisfaction. The present study highlighted the necessity to develop academic achievement improvement programs appropriate for both genders of senior high school students.
This study examined the impact of academic achievement and maternal differential treatment on academic self-concept among adolescent siblings. The sample consisted of 438 students attending middle schools in Seoul (M = 15.2 yrs.), who had a sibling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. Academic achievement compared with a sibling and maternal differential treatment had direct effects on academic self-concept, indicating that children with higher academic achievement scores than their sibling and with perceived maternal differential treatment reported a significantly higher academic self-concept. Also, the relationship between academic achievement as compared with a sibling and academic self-concept was mediated by maternal differential treatment. These findings could be used in educational settings as a basis for improving the academic self-concept of early adolescents.
Purpose: The study investigated the effects of self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy variables on academic achievement. Methods: This is a descriptive correlation study to understand the effects of self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy on academic achievement. Results: There is a significant positive correlation between the participants' self-directed learning, learning flow, academic achievement, and academic self-efficacy. Self-directed learning and learning flow influenced academic achievement, while academic self-efficacy was found to have a partial mediating effect. As indicated above, academic self-efficacy and self-directed learning were significant predictors of academic achievement. Conclusion: The study results can be used as basic data to conduct future studies. Furthermore, results can inform the development of educational programs that enhance self-directed learning, learning flow, and academic self-efficacy to improve students' academic achievement in the department of emergency technology.

Purpose: This study examined the correlation between satisfaction with major, academic self-efficacy, and academic persistence with the general characteristics of students in a health-related field, to determine factors that affect academic persistence. Methods: The study was conducted on third- and fourth-grade health-field students at Daejion. The questionnaire consisted of a self-report, and a URL was sent by text message to students who agreed to participate after reading the purpose and necessity of the study. Results: Major satisfaction was 4.23 on average, academic self-efficacy was 4.15, and academic continuity was 4.25. Grade and school life satisfaction were the factors correlated with a significant difference in academic persistence. Significant positive correlations were seen between satisfaction with major (r=.637, p<.001) and academic self-efficacy (r=.563, p<.001); higher major satisfaction and academic self-efficacy led to higher academic persistence. Conclusion: A more systematic management approach needs to be conducted by developing active learning participation and applying customized counseling management and support programs by grade to improve the academic self-efficacy and academic persistence of students in health-related fields.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the academic engagement, academic burnout, stress, and social support among undergraduate nursing students by grade. Methods: The study is a descriptive comparative survey. The participants were 247 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 3 universities located in G city. The collected data was analyzed with descriptive statistics, $x^2$ tests, and analysis of covariance, using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The students showed significant differences in academic engagement, academic burnout, and stress according to their grade. The post-hoc analysis results showed that sophomores and juniors had lower academic engagement and higher academic burnout and stress than others (i.e., freshmen, or seniors). There was no significant difference in social support among nursing students. Academic engagement had a positive correlation with social support and a negative correlation with academic burnout and stress. Also, academic burnout had a positive correlation with stress and a negative correlation with academic engagement and social support. Conclusion: The findings indicate that nursing students in second and third grade were at risk of academic burnout and under severe stress. Therefore, sophomores and juniors need more attention and care to help them relieve and control stress and burnout and to improve their academic engagement. Also, the findings should be considered when developing plans and/or interventions for nursing students' major adjustment and academic achievement.
