  • The brushless DC motor (BLDCM) has many advantages. As a result, it is widely used in electric vehicle (EV) drive systems. To improve the reliability of the motor control system, a position sensorless control strategy based on a sliding mode observer (SMO) is proposed. The global fast terminal sliding mode observer (GFTSMO) is proposed to enhance the control performance of the SMO control system. The advantages of the linear sliding mode and the nonsingular terminal sliding mode (NTSM) are combined in the control strategy. The convergence speed of the system state is enhanced. The motor commutation point is obtained with the observation of the back EMF, and the instantaneous torque value of the motor is calculated. Therefore, the position sensorless control of the BLDCM is realized. Experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can improve the convergence speed, dynamic characteristics and robustness of the system.

  • The development of the control algorithms for under-actuated systems is important. Decoupled sliding mode control has been successfully employed to control under-actuated systems in a decoupling manner with the use of sliding mode control. However, in such a control scheme, the system functions must be known. If there are uncertainties in those functions, the control performance may not be satisfactory. In this paper, the direct adaptive fuzzy sliding mode control is employed to control a class of under-actuated uncertain systems which can be regarded as a combination of several subsystems with one same control input. By using the hierarchical sliding control approach, a sliding control law is derived so as to make every subsystem stabilized at the same time. But, since the system considered is assumed to be uncertain, the sliding control law cannot be readily facilitated. Therefore, in the study, based on Lyapunov stable theory a fuzzy compensator is proposed to approximate the uncertain part of the sliding control law. From those simulations, it can be concluded that the proposed compensator can indeed cope with system uncertainties. Besides, it can be found that the proposed compensator also provide good robustness properties.

  • This paper presents an LMI-based method to design a integral sliding mode controller for a class of uncertain systems. Using LMIs we derive an existence condition of a sliding surface. And we give a switching feedback control law. Our method is a generalization of the previous integral sliding mode control design methods. Since our method is based on LMIs, it gives design flexibility for combining various useful design criteria that can be captured in the LMI-based formulation.

  • In this paper, a novel sliding surface is proposed to guarantee that the sliding mode controller for a second order system produces a control signal whose magnitude is always within the bound of input saturation. The proposed sliding surface uses a time-varying function, and its time derivative works to make a control signal within the bounds of input saturation. Simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, it is proposed the adaptive-sliding mode control technique which is new approach to implement the robust control of industrial robot manipulator with external disturbances and parameter uncertainties. Over the past decade, the design of advanced control systems for industrial robotic manipulators has been a very active area of research and two major design categories have emerged. Sliding mode control is a well-known technique for robust control of uncertain nonlinear systems. The robustness of sliding model controllers can be shown in continuous time, but digital implementation may not preserve robustness properties because the sampling process limits the existence of a true sliding mode. Adaptive control algorithm is designed by using the principle of the model reference adaptive control method based upon the hyperstability theory. The proposed control scheme has a simple structure is computationally fast and does not require knowledge of the complex dynamic model or the parameter values of the manipulator or the payload. Simulation results how that the proposed method not only improves the performance of the system but also reduces the chattering problem of sliding mode control. Consequently, it is expected that the new adaptive sliding mode control algorithm will be suited for various practical applications of industrial robot control system.

  • In order to not only perform as a extreme model under the severe operating condition but also acquire more diverse and advanced control capability utilizing high compliance, active vibration control of a flexible 2-link robot manipulator are investigated. Multi variable-structured frequency shaped optimal sliding mode is proposed for the flexible robot manipulator like control system, whose control variables, an angular motion of joint and vibration of flexible link, have to be controlled simultaneously by one control torque at a driving joint. The control system is divided into two subsystems, a control input related subsystem and an added subsystem. The proposed sliding mode, composed of multi control variables, makes optimized relation between subsystems and a individual control input, thus, the sliding mode controller can compensate whole dynamics of each subsystems simultaneously. And the possibility and effectiveness are verified by vibration control of a manipulator having two flexible links. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed control scheme achieves the purpose effectively.

  • The present paper is concerned with the robust decentralized stabilization problem of large-scale systems with time delays in the interconnections using sliding mode control. Based on Lyapunov stability theorem and H$_{\infty}$ theory, an existence condition of the sliding mode and a robust decentralized sliding mode controller are newly derived for large-scale systems under mismatched uncertainties. Finally, a numerical example is given to verify the validity of the results developed in this paper.

  • In this paper, the discrete optimal control is made to have the robust property of sliding mode controller. A augmented system with a virtual state is constructed for this objective and noble sliding surface is constructed based on this system. The sliding surface is the same as the optimal control trajectory in the original system. The states follow the optimal trajectory even if there exist uncertainties. The reaching phase problem of sliding mode control is desappear in this method.

  • The ball and beam system is one of the most popular models for studying control systems because of its nonlinearity and several control techniques have been proposed. Sliding mode control is a popular robust control method which rejects the external disturbance. In this paper, we propose a robust controller using the ${\epsilon}$-sliding surface. On the ${\epsilon}$-sliding surface, the system robustness and convergence can be manipulated via a use of ${\epsilon}$. We show the stability analysis and convergence analysis on the ${\epsilon}$-sliding surface. In addition, the experimental results show the validity of the proposed controller.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive sliding mode observer (SMO), which adds the estimation function of the stator resistance to a new sliding mode observer for the robust sensorless control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with variable parameters. To reduce the chattering problem commonly found in the conventional sliding mode observer where the low-pass filter and additional position compensation of the rotor are used, the sigmoid function is used for the control of a switching function in this research. With the estimation of the stator resistance, the proposed observer can improve the control performance by reducing the estimation error of the motor's speed. Note that the stator resistance is varying with the ambient temperature and becomes an error source for the sensorless control of PMSM. The new sliding mode observer has better efficiency than the conventional adaptive sliding mode observer by reducing the time consuming integral calculations. The stability of the proposed adaptive sliding mode observer is verified by the Lyapunov function in determining the observer gains, and the effectiveness of the observer is demonstrated by simulations and experiments.
