The study was intended to investigate the changes of construction types of 216 non-national forest roads, which were completed between 1989 and 2005 in Jeollabuk-do, by analyzing their drawing and specification. It was found that the mean length of yearly construction has been significantly reduced after the Policy of Green Forest Roads compared with before the policy. Soil cut-off of earth work was changed from bulldozer to a combination of bulldozer and excavator. Soils were transported by truck in all design, but establishment of spoil-bank was not designed at all. The design of slope revegetation works was developed from turfing and Bastard indigo planting to seed spray, combination of seed spray and belt-sodding, and mulching with coir net and rice straw. In design of the culvert, the average interval of culvert installation was reduced to 92m in step 3, the dimension of culverts was expanded to over 600 mm after step 2, and all drainpipes were corrugated steel pipes. The design length of concrete pavement increased from 40 m/km of step 1 to 240 m/km of step 3. Thanks to the enormously increased amount of concrete pavement, the stability and functionality of forest roads could be improved. Stone masonry was the main work drawn for slope stability, and concrete retaining wall and gabion have been drawn for same object since 1999.
In this paper, the feasibility of generating solar power near an abandoned quarry is examined with the objectives of resolving the essential problems that quarries encounter, such as rockfalls and space usage issues. On an abandoned quarry site in Sadang, Seoul, Republic of Korea, two different PV installation methods were analyzed. The first is attaching PV directly on the quarry slope. Since there are no corresponding safety standards and precedents for installing solar panels directly on slopes, the power generation potential was calculated by using topographic data and reasonable assumptions. The surface area of cut slope section was extracted from the Digital Elevation Model(DEM) via ArcGIS and Python programming to calculate the tilt and power capacity of installable panels. The other approach is installing PV as a rockfall barrier, and the power generation potential was analyzed with the assumption that the panel is installed in the direction of facing solar irradiation. For the derivation of power generation, the renewable energy generation analysis program SAM(System Advisor Model) was used for both methods. According to the result, quarries that have terminated resource extraction and remain devastated have the potential to be transformed into renewable energy generation sites.
This study investigated the predictive accuracy of a model of landslide displacement in Jecheon-si, where a great number of landslides were triggered by heavy rain on both natural (non-clear-cut) and clear-cut slopes during August 2020. This was accomplished by applying three flow direction methods (single flow direction, SFD; multiple flow direction, MFD; infinite flow direction, IFD) and the degree of root cohesion to an infinite slope stability equation. The application assumed that the soil saturation and any changes in root cohesion occurred following the timber harvest (clear-cutting). In the study area, 830 landslide locations were identified via landslide inventory mapping from satellite images and 25 cm resolution aerial photographs. The results of the landslide modeling comparison showed the accuracy of the models that considered changes in the root cohesion following clear-cutting to be improved by 1.3% to 2.6% when compared with those not considered in the area under the receiver operating characteristics (AUROC) analysis. Furthermore, the accuracy of the models that used the MFD algorithm improved by up to 1.3% when compared with the models that used the other algorithms in the AUROC analysis. These results suggest that the discriminatory application of the root cohesion, which considers changes in the vegetation condition, and the selection of the flow direction method may influence the accuracy of landslide predictive modeling. In the future, the results of this study should be verified by examining the root cohesion and its dynamic changes according to the tree species using the field hydrological monitoring technique.

This study examined the actual conditions of quarries. aiming to offer preliminary data to help with restoration efforts of quarries after extracting rock material. The results are as follows. As for the current state of business, a classification of all sites surveyed showed the ratio of ceased operations: ongoing operations: quarries under restoration to be 58:5:37. Classified by the permit area, the ratio of the number of quarries with areas less than $20,000m^2$ (2ha) : between $20,000m^2$ (2ha) and $50,000m^2$ (5ha) : $50,000m^2$ (5ha) or more was 15:60:25. The classification by use of the rocks showed the ratio of construction aggregate (such as civil construction material) : building material : craft material to be 60:28:12. The ratio of quarrying methods of bench cut : slope quarry : vertical quarry wall is 40:18:42. It is indicated that 85% of all quarries surveyed are difficult to reclaim while 15% seem to be easier to restore. Among all surveyed, 34 sites were considered to be extremely difficult to restore. 17 of the 34 sites (50%) were quarry walls almost vertical that have been neglected after extraction. 16 of them (47%) were underground quarries that have left quarry walls deep under the ground. For the remaining 1 site, there doesn't seem to be any need for reclamation as it became totally flat after the extraction.

This study was carried out to examine of soil physical property and crack shape by collapse process on landslide area (by land creeping) in Hadong, Gyeongnam. We investigated morphological characteristics (length, depth, cut slope) between main crack and local crack, soil physical properties change between undisturbed section and disturbed section. As a result, morphological characteristics of crack showed no significant difference main crack between local crack. In case of soil physical property variation, soil liquid phase was significantly higher at 31-40 cm of soil depth in disturbed section. And this result is likely to be due to site factors.
Gravity characteristics are investigated in the vicinity of the DASAN scientific station, located at the Svalbard Archipelago, the Arctic using ArcGP data. Boundary effects of free-air gravity anomalies, which appeared generally at the continental margin, are erased after Bouguer correction was applied. Complete Bouguer anomalies produced after terrain correction by GrOPO30 show that gravity anomalies increase from continent to marine. This phenomena seem to be related to the rise of Moho discontinuity. The cut-off frequency of 0.16 was decided after power spectrum analysis and the gravity anomalies were divided into two parts. Residual anomalies in high frequency part show that characteristics of high values along the faults and of low values related to thick sediments in the continent. Characteristic is low values from basement subsidence of continental slope or thick sediments in the marine. The undulation of Moho discontinuity from 3-D inversion modeling show typical characteristics of continental margin that become higher from Svalbard archipelago to Knipovich ridge bordering Eurasian plate.

Expresway traffic accident is fatal accident by high speed, especially human injury is a great social issue. This paper aims to identify characteristic differences of highway accidents that involve human injuries or not. To analysis the elements that affect the two types of accidents used the logistic regression model. The analysis showed that human injury accident rate is increased in case of straight road, flat, or cut-slope areas, barriers, male driver, and older driver. These results provide the ground for actions to counter the problems. By discovering factors for accidents leading to fatality, this study can provide important implications for authorities that establish highway safety measures and policies in preventing human injuries or deaths from car accidents.
Environmental-friendly and economical construction are the recent issues for civil structures and soilbag as facing wall is widely used for cut-slope remediation projects. However, the stability of structures is an important issue for the use of environmental-friendly and economical materials. In order to understand the stability of soilbag reinforced retaining wall, tensile resistance, rupture, tensile strength, and internal/external safety factor of the wall were analyzed with MSEW program and the results were compared to the safety factor of block-type reinforced walls. The stability of retaining wall was analyzed with reduction coefficients of connection strength to check the connection stability. Because it is possible to move between soilbag and geogrid connector for soilbag retaining wall, the safety factor of the wall was analyzed with different inclination angles of soilbag. The analysis result shows that the connection strength and internal/external stability of soilbag reinforced wall satisfy the stability criteria.
Nauralized plants in Ulleungdo were enlisted as 65 taxa, 21 families,49 genera,63 species and 2 varieties by field survey and flora lists of literature cited. Family Compositae covered 27.7% and Family Gramineae, Family Leguminosae and Family Polygonaceae covered 7.7% each. In this study, the nine taxa such as Rumex nipponicus, Trifolium campestre, Oxalis articulata, Anthriscus caucalis, Ipomoea purpurea, Coreopsis Ianceolata, Galinsoga parviflora, Tritonia crocosmaeflora and Festuca arundinacea are added as Nauralized plants in Ulleungdo. Annual plants ratio is 36.9% by life-form spectrum and Europe ratio is 40.0% by origin. The Urbanization Index was 22.0 and the Ratio of Naturalized has increased by flora lists of literature cited each. Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior is growing in Ulleungdo by a plant cause disturbance. Spread prevention and minimization incoming of gardening plants by management plan of naturalized plants might be required. Moreover, it is needed to induce the succession for the recovery of the cut-slope using the native plants.
This study was carried out to obtain the basic model to estimate damage degree from the correlation analysis between forest fire and site environment factors and to clarify the restoration trends thorough multi-temporal survey by observing species diversity followed by various treatments at damaged forest area over time. From the derived model, the damage degree of forest fire was higher in the area of dense coniferous stands composed of simple story at the elevation of about 100m and 200m, and on steeper slope area over 30 degree. As results of this study, fire damaged trees are needed to cut down and a mixed stand with deciduous and coniferous species from the same area is desirable for the future species composition on fire damaged forest. Thus, site characteristics, local species, and mixed stands are the main consideration to enhance the vegetation recovery.
