In this study, we investigated synthesis and characteristics of gallium oxide ($Ga_2O_3$) powders prepared by precipitation method. $Ga_2O_3$ powders were synthesized using $Ga(NO_3)_3$ as a starting material and $NH_4OH$ as a precipitant. The oxidation temperature of $Ga(OH)_3$ and phase transition temperature of $Ga_2O_3$ was revealed using TG-DSC analysis. The crystal structural change of $Ga_2O_3$ powders was investigated by XRD analysis. The morphologies and size distributions of $Ga_2O_3$ particles were analyzed using SEM.

The SnSe single crystal shows an outstanding figure of merit (ZT) of 2.6 at 973 K; thus, it is considered to be a promising thermoelectric material. However, the mass production of SnSe single crystals is difficult, and their mechanical properties are poor. Alternatively, we can use polycrystalline SnSe powder, which has better mechanical properties. In this study, surface modification by atomic layer deposition (ALD) is chosen to increase the ZT value of SnSe polycrystalline powder. SnSe powder is ground by a ball mill. An ALD coating process using a rotary-type reactor is adopted. ZnO thin films are grown by 100 ALD cycles using diethylzinc and H2O as precursors at 100℃. ALD is performed at rotation speeds of 30, 40, 50, and 60 rpm to examine the effects of rotation speed on the thin film characteristics. The physical and chemical properties of ALD-coated SnSe powders are characterized by scanning and tunneling electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive spectroscopy. The results reveal that a smooth oxygen-rich ZnO layer is grown on SnSe at a rotation speed of 30 rpm. This result can be applied for the uniform coating of a ZnO layer on various powder materials.
Cobalt-, zinc-, and nickel-zinc-substituted nano-size manganese ferrite powders, $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$, were fabricated using a sol-gel method, and their crystallographic and magnetic properties were subsequently studied. The $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at temperatures above 523 K exhibited a spinel structure, and the particle size increased as the annealing temperature increased. All ferrites annealed at 773 K showed a single spinel structure, and the lattice constants and particle size decreased with the substitution of Co, Zn, and Ni-Zn. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $MnFe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 523 K only showed a doublet due to its superparamagnetic phase, and the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra of the $MnFe_2O_4$, $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powders annealed at 773 K could be fitted as the superposition of two Zeeman sextets due to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $Fe^{3+}$ ions. However, the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectrum of the $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$ ferrite powder annealed at 773 K consisted of two Zeeman sextets and one quadrupole doublet due to its ferrimagnetic and paramagnetic behavior. The area ratio of the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra could be used to determine the cation distribution equation, and we also explained the variation in the $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ parameters by using this cation distribution equation, the superexchange interaction and the particle size. Relative to pure $MnFe_2O_4$, the saturation magnetizations and coercivities were larger in $Mn_{0.8}Co_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ and smaller in $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$, and $Mn_{0.8}Ni_{0.1}Zn_{0.1}Fe_2O_4$. These variations could be explained using the site distribution equations, particle sizes and magnetic moments of the substituted ions.
$Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O$ and $MgFe_2O_4$ powders were synthesized using chemical methods and mixed in different proportions to prepare a mixture of $Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O$ and $MgFe_2O_4$ that was thermally treated between 900 to $1100^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. Structural characterization was done using X-ray powder diffraction measurements. Grain sizes and morphologies of $Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O$, $MgFe_2O_4$, and $Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O+MgFe_2O_4$ samples were observed using a scanning electron microscope. Variation of magnetic properties of the $Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O+MgFe_2O_4$ samples due to the addition of $Li_{0.1}Zn_{0.9}O$ was studied in relation to the structural changes occurring due to the thermal treatment. In particular, changes in the cationic distribution between the tetrahedral and octahedral positions were studied with respect to the increase of the annealing temperature. Magnetization was found to be dependent on the cations distributed in the tetrahedral and octahedral sites of the $MgFe_2O_4$.

The influence of annealing process in an $O_2$ atmosphere on the photoluminescence (PL) spectra properties of ZnS nanowires has been investigated. ZnS nanowires with the diameters approximately 100 nm and the lengths a few tens micrometers were synthesized by evaporating ZnS powders on Si substrates while using an Au thin film as a catalyst. ZnS nanowires had an NBE emission band at 430 nm in the violet region. The emission intensity was improved drastically by a process in which ZnS nanowires were heat-treated at $500^{\circ}C$ in an $O_2$ atmosphere for 45 minutes.

For mass product of nanocrystalline ZnO ultrafine powders, self-sustaining combustion process(SCP) and ultrasonic spray combustion method(USCM) were applied at the same time. Ultrasonic spray gun was attached on top of the vertical type furnace. The droplet was sprayed into reaction zone of the furnace to form SCP which produces spherical shape with soft agglomerate crystalline ZnO particles. To characterize formed particles, fuel and oxidizing agent for SCP were used glycine and zinc nitrate or zinc hydroxide. Respectively, with changing combustion temperature and mixture ratio of oxidizing agent and fuel, the best ultrasonic spray conditions were obtained. To observe ultrasonic spray effect, two types of powder synthesis processes were compared. One was directly sprayed into furnace from the precursor solution (Type A), the other directly was heated on the hot plate without using spray gun (Type B). Powder obtained by type A was porous sponge shape with heavy agglomeration, but powder obtained using type B was finer primary particle size, spherical shape with weak agglomeration and bigger value of specific surface area. 9/ This can be due to much lower reaction temperature of type B at ignition time than type A. Synthesized nanocrystalline ZnO powders at the best ultrasonic spray conditions have primary particle size in range 20~30nm and specific surface area is about 20m$^2$/g.

The Mn-Zn ferrite powders were prepared by high energy ball milling, then compacted and sintered at various temperatures to assess their sintering behavior and magnetic properties. The initial ferrite powders were spherical in shape with the size of approximately 70 ㎛. After 3 h of ball milling at 300 rpm, aggregated powders ~230 nm in size and composed of ~15 nm nanoparticles were formed. The milled powders had a density of ~70 % when compacted at 490 MPa for 3 min. In the samples subsequently sintered at 1,273 K ~ 1,673 K for 3 h, the MnZnFe2O4 phase was detected. The density of the sintered samples had a tendency to increase with increasing sintering temperature up to 1,473 K, which produced the highest density of 98 %. On the other hand, the sample sintered at 1,373 K had the highest micro-hardness of approximately 610 Hv, which is due to much finer grains.

ZnO thick films by Sol-Gel processing were investigated electrics, optics and the sensing characteristics of CO gas. Using the znic acetate dihydrate and acetylaceton (AcAc) as a chelating agent, stable ZnO sol was synthesized. ZnO phase was crystallized through the heat-treatment at $70^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs and influenced the sensing characteristics of the electrics and CO gas by uniform particle distributions not related particle size. The samples on the alumina substrate by thick films were investigated the properties of electrics and the effect of sensing. The sensitivity was so excellent in the sample of the heat-treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 12hrs and good in the heat-treatment for 1hrs generally. Crystallization and volatilization of organic materials according to the change of heating treatment temperature of thick films were analyzed by TG-DTA, XRD and mirostructure of thick films were observed by SEM.
