  • High-speed QPSK demodulator has been one important design objective of any wireless communication systems, especially those offering broadband multimedia service. This paper describes Zero-Crossing IF-level(ZCIF) QPSK demodulator for high-speed wireless communications, and its hardware structures are discussed. ZCIF QPSK demodulator is mainly composed of symbol time circuit and carrier recovery circuit to estimate timing and phase-offsets. There are various schemes. Among them, we use Gardner algorithm and Decision-Directed carrier recovery algorithm which is most efficient scheme to warrant the fast acquisition and tracking to fabricate FPGA chip. The testing results of the implemented onto CPLD-FLEX10K chip show demodulation speed is reached up to 2.6[Mbps]. Actually in case of designing by ASIC, its speed may be faster than CPLD by 5 times. Therefore, it is possible to fabricate the ZCIF QPSK demodulator with speed of 10 Mbps.

  • It is essential to find oscillating angles and periods in a seaway when designing and manufacturing stabilizers. It is difficult to find oscillating angles and periods in high speed turning and they vary with ship speed and wave heading angles, therefore, proper algorithm to measure oscillating periods in a seaway. In the present study, three kinds of algorithms are developed to measure oscillating angles periods in a seaway. Dual axis tilt sensor of low price is used to measure oscillating angles, and the effect of lateral accelerations on tilt sensor have been reduced by the fusion algorithm using the gyro sensor signals. Analog and digital filters are applied to minimize the noise of the signals. Three kinds of algorithms, zero crossing, peak to peak and moving zero crossing algorithm, are developed to measure oscillating periods in a seaway. It is found that the moving zero algorithm showed the best results in the sea trials.

  • A fixed off-time controlled high power factor ac-dc LED driver is proposed in this paper, which employs a novel zero-crossing-compensation (ZCC) circuit based on a fixed off-time controlled scheme. Due to the parasitic parameters of the system, the practical waveforms have a dead region. By detecting the zero-crossing boundary, the proposed ZCC circuit compensates the control signal VCOMP within the dead region, and is invalid above this region. With further optimization of the parameters KR and Kτ of the ZCC circuit, the dead zone can be eliminated and lower THD is achieved. Finally, the chip is implemented in HHNEC 0.5μm 5V/40V HVCMOS process, and a prototype circuit, delivering 7~12W of power to several 3-W LED loads, is tested under AC input voltage ranging from 85V to 265V. The test results indicate that the average total harmonic distortion (THD) of the entire system is approximately 10%, with a minimum of 5.5%, and that the power factor is above 0.955, with a maximum of 0.999.

  • Currently, the development of industry makes needs larger electric supply. Providers must consider the efficiency about losses and reliability of the system. In this case, DC power system can save electrical energy; long-distance transmission line losses. Relevance to switch technology with a voltage-source converter (VSC) in AC-DC conversion system have been researched. But, protection device of DC-link against fault current is still needed to study much. VSC DC power system is vulnerable to DC-cable short-circuit and ground faults, because DC-link has a huge size of capacitor filter which releases extremely large current during DC faults. Furthermore, DC has a fatal flaw that current zero crossing is nonexistence. To interrupt the DC, several methods which make a zero crossing is used; parallel connecting self-excited series LC circuit with main switch, LC circuit with power electronic device called hybrid DC circuit breaker. Meanwhile, self-excited oscillator needs a huge size capacitor that produces big oscillation current which makes zero crossing. This capacitor has a quite effective on the price of DCCB. In this paper, hybrid self-excited type superconducting DCCB which are using AC circuit breaker system is studied by simulation tool PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • In this paper, a FM radio receiver integrated circuit has been developed based on $0.5{\mu}m$ CMOS process for Zero-Crossing FM demodulator over the 88MHz to 108MHz band. The receiver is designed with the low-IF architecture, and includes Low Noise Amplifier(LNA), Down-Conversion Mixer, Phase Locked Loop(PLL), IF LPF, and a comparator. The measured results of the LNA and Mixer show that the conversion gain of 23.2 dB, the input PldB of -14 dBm, and the noise figure of 15 dB. The measured analog block of the LPF and comparator show the voltage gain of over 89 dB, and the IF LPF can configure the passband from 600KHz to 1.3MHz with 100KHz step through the internal control register banks. The designed FM radio receiver operates at 4.5V with the total current consumption of 15.3mA, so the total power consumption is about 68.85mW. The commercial FM radio has been successfully received.

  • The cycloconverter operating on a circulating current-free mode has many zero crossing points. If an exact zero crossing points are not detected, the three phase-unbalanced currents will flow in a motor. In this paper, the current feedback using a current reference wave is proposed to improve the problems of zero crossing detection, three phase-unbalanced voltages, currents, and torgue ripples. To prevent the saturation of the air gap flux and keep the torque constant, the constant voltage / hertz control with IR compensation is adopted. The PI-controller is designed using the linearized model of the cycloconverterinduction motor system. Alsi, Z-80A single board computer has been used to implement the proposed scheme which results in the performance improvement of cycloconterter-fed induction motor speed control system.

  • The fiber-optic interferometer which is a powerful application for nondestructive measurement techniques has many advantages such as capability of making portable system, easy optical arrangement, low optical loss. In spite of these advantages, this system has an environmental sensitivity of thermal drifts and vibrations. Against environmental perturbations and nonlinear characteristic of phase modulator, the accurate and fast ${\pi}/2$ phase stepping has been achieved by using zero-crossing detection. CCD camera trigger signal is generated at the 4 zero-crossing points. Our System has achieved up to 100 Hz of image capture speed and 0.6 mrad of accuracy of phase stepping, accuracy.

  • Buck power factor correction (PFC) converters, compared with conventional boost PFC converters, exhibit high efficiency performance in the entire range of universal line voltage. This feature has gotten more attention for eliminating the zero crossing dead angle of buck PFC rectifiers. Furthermore, bridgeless structures for the reduction of conduction losses have been proposed. The aim of this paper is to introduce a single-phase buck rectifier that simultaneously has unity power factor (PF) and bridgeless structure while operating in the continuous conduction mode (CCM). For this purpose, two auxiliary flyback converters without any active switches are applied to a bridgeless buck rectifier to eliminate the zero crossing dead angle and achieve unity power factor, low total harmonic distortion (THD) and high efficiency. The operation and design considerations of the proposed rectifier are verified on a 150W, 48V prototype using a conventional peak-current-mode control. The measurement results show that the proposed rectifier has nearly unity power factor, THD less than 7% and high efficiency.

  • In this paper, the detection scheme of the voltage variation using a two difference voltage is proposed. The conventional sag detector is from a single-phase digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) that is based on a d-q transformation using an all-pass filter (APF). The APF generates a virtual q-axis voltage component with $90^{\circ}$ phase delay but the APF cannot generate the virtual q-axis voltage depending on the phase of the grid voltage. To overcome the problem, q-axis voltage component is generated from difference between the current and previous value of d-axis voltage component in the stationary reference frame. However, the difference voltage around the zero crossing is not enough to detect the voltage sag. Therefore, the new detection scheme using the two difference voltage which can detect the sag around the zero crossing voltage is proposed.
