  • This experimental study investigates the hysterestic behavior of traditional timber frames subjected to lateral loads. Prototype frames for this study were selected from one of typical national treasures for timber structures in Korea. For simplicity roof structures and braket systems were excluded from specimens and the joint behavior of beam-to-column system were presumed to have crucial effect on their global behavior. The experimental observation showed stiffness degradation and slip after experiencing initial yield and the first cycle at a new larger displacement due to inherent gaps in traditional timber connection and gradual indentation of interfaces, The cyclic behaviors of all specimens were similar to those os modern timber frames with bolt and nail connections. Additional structural members such as an upper beam and clay-filled wall increased the initial stiffness strength and energy dissipation. It is expected that collapse of Korean traditional timber frames under lateral load is mainly caused from P-$\Delta$ effects rather than local member failure.

  • In the design of ductile moment-resisting frames (DMRFs) following the strong column-weak beam dsign philosophy, it is desirable that the joint and column remain essentially elastic in order to insure proper energy dissipation and lateral stability of the structure. The joint has been identified as the "weak link" in DMRFs because any stiffness or strength deterioration in this region can lead to substantial drifts and the possibility of collapse due to P-delta effects. Moreover, the engineer is faced with the difficult task of detailing an element whose size is determined by the framing members, but which must resist a set of loads very different from those used in the design of the beams and columns. Four 2/3-scale beam-column-slab joint assemblies were designed according to existing code requirements of ACI 318-89, representing interior joints of DMRFs with reinforced high strength concrete. The influence on aseismic behavior of beam-column joints due to monolithic slab, has been investigated.estigated.

  • The diffusion neural network can be cfficiently applied to the Gaussian processing. For example, a difference of two Gaussians(DOG) is performed by this network with ease. In this paper, we model a neural network to perform the function /t(.del.${\Delta}^{2}$G) by using the diffusion neural network. This model is used to detect the edges of moving target in image. By this model not only moving target is separated from stationary background but also their trajectories are obtained using accumulated past information in the diffusion neural network. Furthermore this model needs a small number of connections per cell and the connection weights are fixed-valued. Therefore its hardware can be easily implemented with simple structure.

  • A steel frame is one of the most commonly used structural systems due to its resistance to various types of applied loads. Many studies have been conducted to investigate the effects of several parameters, such as connection flexibility, the boundary condition of each support, and beam-to-column stiffness ratio, on the characteristic behavior of a frame. Based on the results of these studies, several design methods have been proposed. This research focused on the number of bolts on the rotational stiffness of a double-angle connection, and its effect on the story drift of a frame. To achieve these purposes, a simplified analytical model was proposed. Several experimental tests were also conducted to obtain the rotational connection stiffness of each double-angle connection.

  • Let $\sigma$ be an endomorphism and I a $\sigma$-ideal of a ring R. Pearson and Stephenson called I a $\sigma$-semiprime ideal if whenever A is an ideal of R and m is an integer such that $A{\sigma}^t(A)\;{\subseteq}\;I$ for all $t\;{\geq}\;m$, then $A\;{\subseteq}\;I$, where $\sigma$ is an automorphism, and Hong et al. called I a $\sigma$-rigid ideal if $a{\sigma}(a)\;{\in}\;I$ implies a $a\;{\in}\;I$ for $a\;{\in}\;R$. Notice that R is called a $\sigma$-semiprime ring (resp., a $\sigma$-rigid ring) if the zero ideal of R is a $\sigma$-semiprime ideal (resp., a $\sigma$-rigid ideal). Every $\sigma$-rigid ideal is a $\sigma$-semiprime ideal for an automorphism $\sigma$, but the converse does not hold, in general. We, in this paper, introduce the quasi $\sigma$-rigidness of ideals and rings for an automorphism $\sigma$ which is in between the $\sigma$-rigidness and the $\sigma$-semiprimeness, and study their related properties. A number of connections between the quasi $\sigma$-rigidness of a ring R and one of the Ore extension $R[x;\;{\sigma},\;{\delta}]$ of R are also investigated. In particular, R is a (principally) quasi-Baer ring if and only if $R[x;\;{\sigma},\;{\delta}]$ is a (principally) quasi-Baer ring, when R is a quasi $\sigma$-rigid ring.

  • In this research, the characteristics of Brush-less DC (BLDC) motor in accordance with winding connection method, both Y-connection and D -connection, has been identified with design methodology simply. BLDC motor has been designed for both winding connections, and their torque analysis has been performed considering ideal current source analysis and voltage source analysis with 6-step control. In addition, to reduce torque ripple of BLDC motor, caused by coil inductance, on voltage source analysis with 6-step control, we have proposed suitable control method which is Phase Advance Control. It is verified that the torque ripple has been decreased by virtue of phase advance control, advancing and widening conduction angle of switching, via performance analysis by Finite Element Analysis.

  • In the earlier application of the spline finite strip method(FSM), the uniform B3-spline functions were used in the longitudinal direction while the conventional interpolation functions were used in the transverse direction to construct the displacement filed in a strip. To overcome the shortcoming of the uniform B3-spline, non-periodic B-spline was developed as the displacement function. The use of non-periodic B3-spline function requires no tangential vectors at both ends to interpolate the geometry of shell and the Kronecker delta property is also satisfied at the end boundaries. Recently, non-periodic spline FSM which was modified to have a multiple knots at the boundary was developed for the shell analysis and applied to the analysis of bridges. In the formulation of a non-symmetric spline finite strip method, the concepts of non-periodic B3-spline and a stress-resultant finite strip with drilling degrees of freedom for a shell are used. The introduction of non-symmetrically spaced knots in the longitudinal direction allows the selective local refinement to improve the accuracy of solution at the connections or at the location of concentrated load. A number of numerical tests were performed to prove the accuracy and efficiency of the present study.

  • Objectives: In narcoleptic patients diagnosed with ICSD (international classification of sleep disorders, 1990) criteria, nocturnal polysomnography, and MSLT (multiple sleep latency test), we tried to find characteristic features of quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) in a wakeful state. Methods: We compared eight drug-free narcoleptic patients with sex- and age-matched normal controls, using computerized electroencephalographic mapping technique and spectral analysis. Absolute power, relative power, interhemispheric asymmetry, interhemispheric and intrahemispheric coherence, and mean frequency in each frequency band (delta, theta, alpha and beta) were measured and analyzed. Results: Compared with normal controls, narcoleptic patients showed decrease in monopolar interhemispheric coherence of alpha frequency bands in occipital ($O_1/O_2$), parietal ($P_3/P_4$), and temporal ($T_5/T_6$) areas and beta frequency band in the occipital ($O_1/O_2$) area. Monopolar intrahemispheric coherences of alpha frequency bands in left hemispheric areas ($T_3/T_5$, $C_3/P_3$ & $F_3/O_1$) decreased. Decrease of monopolar interhemispheric asymmetry of delta frequency band in the occipital ($O_1/O_2$) area was also noted. The monopolar absolute powers of beta frequency bands decreased in occipital ($O_2,\;O_z$) areas. Conclusion: Decreases in coherences of narcoleptic patients compared with normal controls may indicate fewer posterior neocortical interhemispheric neuronal connections, and fewer left intrahemispheric neuronal connections than normal controls in a wakeful state. Therefore, we suggest that abnormal neurophysiological sites of narcolepsy may involve complex areas such as neocortex and subcortex as well as the brainstem.

  • Since 2017, a total of 29 fire accidents have occurred in energy storage systems (ESSs) as of June 2020. The common mode voltage (CMV) is one of the electrical hazards that is assumed to be a cause of those fire accidents. Several cases of CMV that violate the allowable insulation level of a battery section are being reported in actual ESS operation sites with △-Y winding connections. Thus, this paper evaluates the characteristics of CMV. An ESS site was modeled with an AC grid, PCS, and battery sections using PSCAD/EMTDC software. As a result of a simulation based on the proposed model, it was confirmed that characteristics of CMV vary significantly and are similar to actual measurements, depending on the grounding method of the internal transformer for PCS. The insulation level of the battery section may be severely degraded as the value of CMV exceeds the rated voltage in case of a grounding connection. It was found that the value of CMV dramatically declines when the internal transformer for PCS is operated as non-grounding connection, so it meets the standard insulation level.

  • This study identifies themes and trends in maritime economics and logistics by examining 303 papers published in international journals from 2000 to 2014 using keyword network analysis. Network analysis can be used because the collected data follow Zipf's law and the power law. Utilizing the degree centrality and betweenness centrality, we find the important keywords in each five year period and determine the importance of shared keywords. To further explain keyword centralities, we invented a Delta-C algorithm to show the trends of keywords over time. We found that degree centrality is useful for identifying important research themes in each period because it is mainly concerned with the number of connections. On the other hands, betweenness centrality is useful to determine the unique themes that emerge in each of the specific periods.
