Determining Factors for the Protectiveness of the Passive Film of FeCrN Stainless Steel Formed in Sulfuric Acid Solutions

  • In NaCl solutions acidified with $H_2SO_4$, Fe20Cr1.1N alloy showed enhanced pitting corrosion resistance than Fe20Cr alloy. An XPS analysis revealed that the passive film of Fe20Cr1.1N alloy contained higher cationfraction of Cr than that of Fe20Cr alloy, and nitrogen was incorporated into the film. In addition, it was found that the passive film of Fe20Cr1.1N alloy was thinner and had higher oxygen vacancy density than that of Fe20Cr alloy. Based on these observations, it was concluded that the chemical composition was the determining factor for the protectiveness of the passive film of Fe20Cr based alloy in dilute $H_2SO_4$ solution.

  • Direct growth of graphene using CVD method has been done on CVD grown boron nitride substrate. From the SEM image, we have shown that the size of grain of graphene could be clearly controlled by varying the amount of injected hydrocarbon. To convince the existence of graphene on boron nitride, XPS and Raman has been checked. Both B1s and N1s peaks in XPS spectra and the Raman peak around 1,370 $cm^{-1}$ demonstrated that boron nitride did remain after high temperature treatment during the graphene growth process. And along the graphene grain boundary, the Raman fingerprint of graphene was neatly appeared.

Interaction of SO2 with Oxygen on Ni(100) Studied by XPS and NEXAFS

  • The adsorption and surface reactions of $SO_2$ on Ni(100), c($2{\times}2$)_O/Ni (100) and NiO(111)/Ni(100) surfaces have been investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) technique. On Ni(100), chemisorbed $SO_2$ is formed at 160 K. When $SO_2$ is adsorbed on c($2{\times}2$)_O/Ni(100) at 160 K, $SO_2$ reacts with oxygen to form $SO_3$ and trace amount of $SO_4$ species. $SO_3$ is adsorbed on this surface with its $C_3$ axis perpendicular to the surface. On a NiO(111)/Ni(100) surface, both $SO_3$ and $SO_4$ species are formed at 160 K from adsorbed $SO_2$.

톨루엔 산화에 의한 CuOx/SnO2-ZrO2 촉매의 특성고찰 (The investigation of characteristics of CuOx/SnO2-ZrO2 catalysts for toluene oxidation)

  • Catalytic combustion of toluene was investigated on $CuOx/SnO_2-ZrO_2\;CuOx/SnO_2\;CuOx/ZrO_2$ catalysts prepared by impregnation. Characteristics of catalysts loaded on binary support and single support were observed by TPR, TPO, XRD, XPS techniques. The results on catalytic combustion showed that binary supports improve the activity of copper in the combustion of toluene. The reason for high catalytic activity on toluene combustion of $CuOx/SnO_2-ZrO_2$ catalyst was ascribed to oxidation$\cdot$reduction activity at low temperatures and stability of oxidation state after reduction.

세라믹/고분자 복합체의 열처리에 의한 탄소 함유 실리카 유리의 제조 (Preparation of Carbon-Containing Silica Glass by Heat Treatment of Ormosil)

  • A carbon-containing silica glass was prepared from orgaincally modified silicate(Ormosil) by heat treatment in N2 atmosphere after the ormosil was synthesized using sol-gel method. The Ormosil was fabricated from the TEOS as the inorganic component and the PDMS as the organic component. The Ormosil changed to balck-coloured glass by carbon decomposed from the PDMS when the Ormosil was heated to 450$^{\circ}C$ 20hrs. A dense silicon oxycarbide glass with 2.08 g/cm3 was obtained by heating the Ormosil at 1050$^{\circ}C$ 10hrs. The microstructure of the carbon-containing silica glass was observed by SEM and the SiOxC4-x structure was confirmed by XPS measurement. The densification of the glass was studied by measurements of specific surface area linear shrinkage and geometric density.

A facile green reduction of graphene oxide using Annona squamosa leaf extract

  • A highly facile and eco-friendly green synthesis of Annona squamosa (custard apple) leaf extract reduced graphene oxide (CRG) nanosheets was achieved by the reduction of graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared CRG was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. Removal of oxygen containing moieties from the GO was confirmed by UV-Vis, FT-IR and XPS spectroscopic data. The XRD and Raman data further confirmed the formation of the CRG. TEM images showed the sheet structure of the synthesized CRG. These results show that the phytochemicals present in custard apple leaf extract act as excellent reducing agents. The CRG showed good dispersion in water.

하동 카올린으로부터 제조한 $\beta$-Sialon 분체의 표면특성 (Surface Characterization of $\beta$-Sialon Powder Prepared from Hadong Kaolin)

  • The nature and composition of the surfaces of silicon nitride and β-Sialon powders were investigated using high voltage and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). β-Sialon powder was produced from Hadong kaolin by the carbothermic reduction and simultaneous nitridation. XPS showed that Al was contained in the surface of β-Sialon powder besides Si, N and O components, which is different from that of silicon nitride. It was supposed that Al in the surface of β-Sialon was bonded with oxygen from the oxygen-nitrogen ratio and the measurement of Al 2p binding energies. After both silicon nitride and β-Sialon powders were oxidized at 800℃ for 24h in air, nitrogen didn't exist in the surfaces and the depth of the oxide layer increased. The measurement of Si 2p binding energies showed that the chemical shifts occurred from Si3N2O and/or Si2N2O to SiO2 phase.

  • [ $SnO_2$ ]-doped $TiO_2$ thin films were prepared from tin (IV) bis (acetylacetonate) dichloride and titanium diisopropoxide bis (acetylacetonate) with pluronic P123 or degussa P25 as a structural-directing agent. These hydrolyzed sol were spin coated onto Si(100) wafer substrate. The microstructure, morphology and bonding states of thin films were studied by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The photocatalytic activity of these films was investigated by using indigo carmine solution.

  • In this study, molybdenum thin films were etched with the various Cl$_2$/(Cl$_2$+SF$_{6}$) gas mixing ratio in an magnetically enhanced reactive ion etching(MERIE) by the etching parameter such as rf power of 185 watts, chamber pressure of 40 mTorr and B-field of 80 gauss. The etch rate was 150 nm/min under Cl$_2$/(Cl$_2$+SF$_{6}$) gas mixing ratio of 0.25. At this time, the selectivity of Mo to SiO$_2$, photoresist were respectively 0.94, 0.50. The surface reaction of the etched Mo thin films was investigated with X - ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).PS).

Spectroscopic and Morphological Investigation of Co3O4 Microfibers Produced by Electrospinning Process

  • The Co oxide microfibers were synthesized using the electrospinning process and formed $Co_3O_4$ microfibers after being calcined at high temperatures. The calcination temperature influenced the diameters, morphology, crystalline phase, and chemical environment of the fibers. The surface morphology of the obtained fibers was examined by using the scanning electron microscope (SEM). As the calcination temperatures increased from room temperature to 873 and 1173 K, the diameters of the cobalt oxide fibers decreased from 1.79 to 0.82 and 0.32 mm, respectively. The structure of the fibers was investigated with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The calcined $Co_3O_4$ fibers had crystalline face-centered cubic (fcc) structure. The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) results revealed that increasing the calcination temperature promoted the formation of $Co^{2+}$ and $Co^{3+}$ species.
