  • The purpose of this study was examining the preference difference of the necktie design for the stripe patterns according to the demographic characteristics. The study method was a research study through a survey. The study subject was the adult men in their from 20's to 50's. The study stimulative was the stripe patterns of man's necktie which were made by Adobe Photoshop 9 with using the color, the arrangement, the interval, and the width of necktie. The results of study are as follows. As the difference analysis result for the color preference for stripe pattern according to the demographic characteristic, men in their 20's preferred most gray series, men whose monthly income is less than two millions won and men of owner-operator preferred most red series, and all the rest of men preferred blue series. As the difference analysis result for the preference of arrangement type, men in their 20's preferred most the stripe pattern of width, students preferred most the stripe pattern of length, all the rest of men preferred most the stripe pattern of diagonal. As the difference analysis result for the preference of stripe interval for necktie, unmarried men, students, men in their 20's, and men engaging in sales/service and production work preferred most the interval of 0.6cm, all the rest of men preferred most the interval of 1.2cm. As the difference analysis result for the preference of necktie width, unmarried men, men in their 20's, men engaging in sales/service and production work, and students preferred most the width of 7cm, all the rest of men preferred most the interval of 8cm.

  • Background: Few studies have examined the effects of a forward rotating shift pattern on police employee performance and well-being. This study sought to compare sleep duration, cognitive performance, and vigilance at the start and end of each shift within a three-shift, forward rotating shift pattern, common in United Kingdom police forces. Methods: Twenty-three police employee participants were recruited from North Yorkshire Police (mean age, 43 years). The participants were all working the same, 10-day, forward rotating shift pattern. No other exclusion criteria were stipulated. Sleep data were gathered using both actigraphy and self-reported methods; cognitive performance and vigilance were assessed using a customized test battery, comprising five tests: motor praxis task, visual object learning task, NBACK, digital symbol substitution task, and psychomotor vigilance test. Statistical comparisons were conducted, taking into account the shift type, shift number, and the start and end of each shift worked. Results: Sleep duration was found to be significantly reduced after night shifts. Results showed a significant main effect of shift type in the visual object learning task and NBACK task and also a significant main effect of start/end in the digital symbol substitution task, along with a number of significant interactions. Conclusion: The results of the tests indicated that learning and practice effects may have an effect on results of some of the tests. However, it is also possible that due to the fast rotating nature of the shift pattern, participants did not adjust to any particular shift; hence, their performance in the cognitive and vigilance tests did not suffer significantly as a result of this particular shift pattern.

  • Dense and fine polymer patterns often collapse, as they come into contact with each other at their protruding tips. Resist pattern collapse depends on the aspect ratio of patterns and the surface tension of rinsing materials. The pattern collapse is a very serious problem in microfabrication, because it is one of the factors which limit the device dimensions. The reasons for the pattern collapse are known as the surface tension of rinse liquid, centrifugal force and rinse liquid flow produced in the developing process. In this work, we tried to evaluate the pattern collapse of three-dimensional microstructures that were fabricated by two-photon induced photopolymerization, and showed the way how to reduce the deformation of microstructures.

  • This study examined the time allocation pattern of husbands and wives. This study investigated i)the pattern of time allocation in the light of the extent of time spent in housework child care and leisure among husbands and wives living in urban area ii) the differences in extent of time spent in such activities between wives and husbands and iii) the determinants of time spent in such activities. A system of time allocation equations based on household production theory and several hypotheses explaining the distribution of domestic work among couples were employed. According to the results the pattern of time allocation was different between wives and husbands. Regardless of women's employment status wives were more likely to have dual responsibilities than were husbands. The time equation employed in this study had more explanatory power in the pattern of time allocation of wives than of husbands and of employed wives than of non-employed wives. The sex-role ideology hypothesis was supported for non-employed wives but not for employed wives. The time availability hypothesis was supported for the time allocation of employed wives and husbands. The economic efficiency hypothesis was supported for employed wives' time allocation.

  • In machining with cutting tool inserts having complex chip groove shape the flow curl and breaking pattern of the chip are different than in flat-face inserts. In the present work an effort is made to understand the three basic phe-nomena occurring in a chip since its formation in machining with groove type and pattern type inserts. These are the ini-tial chip flow the subsequent development of up and side curl and the final chip breaking due to the development of tor-sional and bending stresses. in this paper chip flow angle in a groove type and pattern type inserts. The expres-sion for chip flow angle in groove type and pattern type inserts is also verified experimentally using high speed filming techniques.

  • Recently, lots of researchers work focused on the intrusion detection system. Pattern matching technique is commonly used to detect the intrusion in the system, However, the method requires a lot of time to match between systems rule and inputted packet data. This paper proposes a new intrusion detection system based on the pattern matching technique. Proposed system reduces the required time for pattern matching by using classified system rule. The classified rule is implemented with a general tree for efficient pattern matching. Thereby, proposed system could perform network intrusion detection efficiently.

  • Mobile web applications are different from desktop web applications because of their small screen size and small user input devices. Therefore user interface designers have spent their effort and time to re-design the user interface of mobile web applications to meet these differences. In this paper, we introduce five user interface patterns for mobile web applications to reduce their effort and time. Two of them are for utilizing small screen size efficiently, and they are space overloading pattern and data filtering pattern. These patterns enable designers to reduce screen usage. The other three patterns - data suggestion pattern, input reuse pattern, and incremental data input pattern - are for helping users' data input on mobile devices. These three patterns enable users to reduce direct data input. Our work will help user interface designers develop mobile web interface to utilize screen space efficiently and get data with less errors and less efforts from users.

  • Phosphoric acid was used as etching agent instead of conventional peroxide - based chemicals for forming pattern of ultra definition display. Etchant was synthesized by mixing etching agent, oxidation agent, buffer solution, and additive into solvent, deionized water. Thicknesses of copper, main metal of ultra definition display, for etching, were 10,000 and $30,000{{\AA}}$. Etch stop of good low skew for proper pattern formation has been occurred at the content ratio of phosphoric acid 60 - 64%, nitric acid 4 - 5%, additive(potassium acetate) 1 - 3%. Buffer solution(acetic acid) decreased the metal contact angle $63.07^{\circ}$ to $42.49^{\circ}$ for benefiting pattern formation. Content variations on four components (phosphoric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, potassium acetic acid) of the etchant with storage time were within 3 wt% after 24 hrs of etching work.

  • This paper presents an overlapping pattern substitution (PS) method. The original overlapping PS method as a reversible data hiding scheme works well with only four pattern pairs among fifteen possible such pairs. This paper generalizes the original PS method so that it will work well with an optimal pair from among the fifteen possible pattern pairs. To implement such an overlapping PS method, changeable and embeddable patterns are first defined. A class map is virtually constructed to identify the changeable and embeddable pairs. The run-lengths between consecutive least probable patterns are recorded. Experiments show that an implementation of our overlapping PS method works well with any possible type of pairs. Comparison results show that the proposed method achieves more embedding capacity, a higher PSNR value, and less human visual distortion for a given embedding payload.
