Analysis of Homomorphic Filtered Remotely Sensed Imagery and Multiple Geophysical Images

  • In this study, the digital image processing with image enhancement based on homomorphic filtering was performed using geophysical imaging data such as gravity, magnetic data and sub-scenes of satellite images such as LANDSAT, IKONOS, and KOMPSAT. Windows application program for executing homomorphic filtering was designed and newly implemented. In general, homomorphic filtering is technique that is based on Fourier transform, which enhances the contrast of image by removing the low frequencies and amplifying the high frequencies in frequency domain. We can enhance the image selectively using homomorphic filtering as compared with the existing method, which enhance the image totally. Through several experiment using remotely sensed imagery and geophysical image with this program, it is concluded that homomorphic filtering is more effective to reveal distinct characteristics for some complicated and multi-associated features on image data.

  • A Microsoft Access application program is developed to calculate energy demands for a Community Energy System (CES) composed of various types of buildings. The field-measured heating, hot water, cooling, and electricity energy consumptions for 14 types of building are systematically organized in forms of database and hourly loads for a span of year (8760 hours) are generated through an automated statistical procedure. User-friendly standard windows interfaces are provided to assist non-expert end users.

  • 본 프로젝트에서는 건물에 출입하는 사람들의 특성을 파악하여 진열과 상가 배치에 대해 어른과 아이를 구분함으로써 과학적이고 통계학적인 접근을 하기 위함에 목적이 있다. 구분 방법으로는 Optical Sensor를 이용하여 어른과 아이를 구별하고, 측정 결과를 AVR8535를 이용 처리한 후 RS232 방식으로 컴퓨터에 Data를 보내게 되며, 컴퓨터에서는 Windows Application을 통하여 받은 Data를 즉시 관리자에게 보여주게 되고, 또한 Data를 축적하여 실시간 통계 그래프로 보여주는 방식으로 채택하였다.

Demographics of galactic bulges in the local Universe through UV and Optical windows

  • Bulges of galaxies are thought to have formed and grown at least in part through galaxy mergers, and thus an accurate derivation of their properties can be an effective course to test/confirm our understanding on their formation and evolution in the standard hierarchical merger paradigm. We have generated a sample of galaxy bulges (n = 15,423) in the nearby (0.005 < z < 0.05) universe from the SDSS DR7 and GALEX GR6plus7 databases and derived their structural and photometric properties by means of SExtractor and GALFIT application. Most notable properties include bulge-to-total luminosity ratio, effective radius, disk scale length, ellipticity, and position angle. The UV properties of the bulges have also been analyzed to infer their recent star formation history. A spectroscopic analysis has been performed using their absorption and emission line strengths measured and released by the OSSY team. We present our preliminary results from our investigation mainly focused on stellar population properties and discuss their implications on the formation of bulges.

IR Transmittance and Surface Structure of Diamond Film Polished by Thermomechanical Method (열기계적으로 연마한 다이아몬드 막의 적외선 투과도 및 표면구조)

  • The rough growth surfaces of diamond films fabricated by the hot filament CVD were polished using thermomechanical polishing method. And then, its application to the optical windows was discussed through the measurement of transmittance in the range of infrared radiation and analysis of surfaces structure. The results were compaerd with those of the films polished with conventional mechanicla polishing. The transmittance of the mechanically polished film reached 57~66% over the whole range from 500 to 4000 cm-1. But the transmittance of the film polished with thermomechanical polishing method was reduced below 35%. This decrease in transmittance was due to both the graphitization of diamond on the polished surface and the growth of $\beta$-SiC at diamond/Si interface during polishing. The residual Fe in hte thermomechanically polished surface was confirmed by SIMS analysis. This Fe played the role of the graphitization of near surface region of the diamond film.

  • It is essential to know climatic characteristics of the site for energy efficient building design. However, it is difficult to obtain a climate data. Even though the climate data is obtained, it is difficult to be applied to the building design since it is usually consisted of just series of numbers. Also, designers cannot know the effective climatic design strategies suitable for the site with ease. Thus, this study aims to develope the climatic design tool working on the personal computer operated by windows 95/98/2000/XP. WYEC weather data and building bioclimatic chart are adopted for the climate analysis. Climatic Characteristics(distributions of the dominant factors, bioclimatic needs, needs to each passive design strategy, and the order of priority, etc.) of Seoul are analysed and presented as an example. Also, passive climatic design process making use of this tool is presented.

  • In this paper, we implemented the monitoring and control of geothermal heating and cooling system using mobile devices. The main idea of this system is to provide the convenience if the system can be controled in remote place with monitoring using the mobile devices like PDA. Basically, the system consists of the Server-Client structure divided into two parts, one is PDA and PC, the other is PC and PLC(Programmable Logic Controller). The PDA, which is equipped with Windows CE as as, monitors the status of the devices (motors and sensors, etc) attached to PLC and controls them. This does the system to be controled by the commands, which we assume to control, with wireless transmission between PC and PLC. The PDA parts are responsible for monitoring and control the devices connected to the PLC, and the PC part which equipped with the application is to provide the relation between PDA and PLC.   • In this paper, we proposed 2500 V Non punch-through(NPT) Insulated gate bipolar transistor(IGBT) for high voltage industry application. we carried out optimal simulation for high efficiency of 2500 V NPT IGBT according to size of device. In results, we obtaind design parameter with 375 um n-drift thickness, 15 um gate length, and 8um emitter windows. After we simulate with optimal parameter, we obtained 2840 V breakdown voltage and 3.4V Vce,sat. These design and process parameter will be used designing of more 2000 V NPT IGBT devices.

  • For the weld quality improvement and the convenient operation of machines, laser vision system can be used to track weld seams on pressure vessels. There are many bad conditions to the weld grooves such as cutting error, gap variation of weld joint, and offset error of center line caused by misalignment. We developed a laser vision seam tracking system which consists of a laser vision sensor, a two axis positioning mechanism and a user interface program running on the Windows system.   • We propose the system that automatically adjusts the white balance on display products to a standard value according to several nations. We replace manual or semi-auto method with fully automatic method using windows application program. And we use RS-232C serial interface to communicate PC with display products which we want to adjust white balance. The PC generates patterns for measuring color information and Color Analyzer measures color and brightness. This value is transmitted through RS-232C serial interface to PC. The PC's algorithm analyzes this information and then decides which RGB Gain value is best for optimal white balance. This RGB Gain value is transmitted through RS-232C serial interface to display products. The modified color value is measured again and feed back to PC. This sequence is repeated until optimum white balance is obtained.
