The purpose of this case study is to determine the possibility of Numerical Forecasting of sea fog at West Sea in spring time. For practical method of analyzing the data collected from 24th to 26th March 2003, Numerical Weather Prediction model MM5(Mesoscale Model Version 5) and synoptic field study using synoptic chart, upper level chart, and sea surface temperature were employed. The results of synoptic field analysis summarized that sea fog at West sea in spring is intensified by the inflow of the warm flow from west or southwest, low sea surface temperature to increase the temperature difference between air and sea surface, and inversion layer to disturb the disperse. It appears that the possibility of sea fog forecasting by MM5, in view of the result that the MM5 output is similar to the synoptic fields analysis.

In this study, we found that Forsythiae fructus (FF) and one of its main compounds, arctigenin, significantly inhibited nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglial cells. Arctigenin also suppressed the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2, and inhibited the activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase and p38. Moreover, it also reduced levels of proinflammatory cytokines, interleukin $1{\beta}$, tumor necrosis factor ${\alpha}$ and prostaglandin E2, and inhibited neuronal death in LPS-treated organotypic hippocampal cultures. Therefore, we suggest that arctigenin may confer a neuroprotective effect via the inhibition of neuroinflammation.

The effects of methanolic extracts of Polygalae Radix (PR 100mg/kg) was tested to evaluate on the neuroprotective activity (92％ p<0.001) on global cerebral schemia. Based on bioassays guided fractionation, butanol soluble fraction (BtOH 25mg/kg) had the neuroprotive effect (87％ p<0.001) of global cerebral ischemia in rat. Oxygen free radical injury plays an important role in neuronal damage induced by brain ischemia and reperfusion. (omitted)

Now when Wests meet Easts, they approach with a motive of acknowledging Eastern or Asian value, concretizing and sharing philosophy. As the result of this study through comparing Eastern and Western view of thinking, First, East is the cosmic beauty of harmony that pursues the harmony with the nature involving emotional and humane affection, and West has the tendency of proportional beauty of harmony involving order and balance. Second, East pursues the metaphorical beauty of mimesis which implies more in invisible parts, and West has the tendency of pursuing visual beauty of mimesis which has contents in visible parts. Third, East is the sublime beauty of nothingness which suggests a blank is endless infinitude of doctrines and mind breath, and West pursues the sublime beauty of being which desires to fill tangible existence without blank. Fourth, East is the expressive beauty that has the intuition of pleasure, which gives weight on non-clearness, emotional joke, and satire, and emphasizes a comic phase, and in West pursuing clearness of order, the concept of the ugliness of disformation is the intuition of defiance, and close to intuition of sadness.

Objectives : We present some opinions to reduce the risk of herb-drug interactions through scanning "About Herbs" of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Website. Methods : We searched the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Website of About Herbs and investigated herb-drug interactions. Results : There are 237 herbs and 196 drugs on About Herbs. 81.1% of herbs have fewer than 2 interactions listed.: 86.3% of drugs fewer than 3 interactions. Especially, 13 herbs were reported to have interactions with inclusive chemoagents on About Herbs. Only L-theanine has positive interaction with inclusive chemoagents. The others have negative interactions with inclusive chemoagents. 12 single chemoagents were reported to have interactions with some herbs. Especially tamoxifen-black cohosh, methotrexate-glutamin and aldesleukin-Huang Chi have positive interactions to increase the effects of the chemoagent. Conclusions : We should urgently create a risk management system of herb-drug interactions and take note of the risk of herb-drug interactions. We should build up systemic, evidence-based informations on popular herbs used by Korean cancer patients and herb-drug interactions in oncology like About Herbs.

Several studies have shown that a low frequency stimulation can depress blood pressure in hypertension. We had developed a new auriculoelectrostimulator as an electronic blood pressure regulator for simple and easy stimulation. The new auriculoelectrostimulator was employed in hypertensive rat model induced by immobilization stress, diabetic and essential hypertensive rat models. Rats were stimulated by auriculoelectrostimulator at ear acupoint (Ear point for hypertension) bilaterally. Ear stimulation by auriculoelectrostimulator significantly decreased blood pressure in all hypertensive rat models and inhibited the increase of heart rates in stressed and spontaneous hypertensive rats. The results showed that auriculoelectrostimulator had depressive effects on hypertension in rat hypertensive models, suggesting that it is useful in treatment of hypertension.

The purpose of this study was the analysis of electric energy consumption with the case study of tower type apartment's opening of building surface. We analyze the relationship between tower type apartment's opening of building surface and using electric energy consumption. The results of this study are: 1) The highest energy consumption of electric energy was on August without any influence of opening types of building surface. 2) Also, the south-west sides consumption of August was 848 kWh on Type B(one side opening) and it was the highest usage. 3) A house if facing west used more electricity than facing east when its opening of building surface's datum level is facing south. However, the house of facing east used more power than west when its opening of building surface's datum level is facing north. 4) When opening of building surface is facing on north-west or north-east, the opening of building surface's side of west and east used more electric power than north-west or north-east sides.

The gonadsomatic index (GSI) of mottled skate was the highest in April, GSI and HSI showed a reverse phase for its reproductive cycle. The fish had one pair of egg capsules, having 1 to 7 fertilized eggs, and spawned all the year round. When surveying the reproductive characteristics of females over 63 cm in disc width, we found the spawning peak was between April to June, and the appearance ratio of egg capsules was the highest in May (32.1%). The eggs were hatched at $8^{\circ}C$, $13^{\circ}C$, $18^{\circ}C$, water temperature (12.8 to $24.2^{\circ}C$), and the best hatching temperature was $18^{\circ}C$. The number of fish hatched was 4 to 5 fish/egg capsules, and the hatching rate was 100%. The sex ratios of hatching larvae were 45.5% female and 54.5% male. Therefore this study will provide fundamental data and information for artificial reproduction of the mottled skate.

Background : Advanced thymic cancer still remains as an intractable disease. The survival rate of advanced thymic cancer could be increased through chemotherapy and radiation, but the results have not been satisfactory. Objectives : To see whether wheel balanced therapy (WBT) has the therapeutic effects or not on advanced thymic cancer patient. Methods : A patient diagnosed with progression of thymic carcinoma with pleura metastasis visited the East-West Cancer Center (EWCC) on Feb 9th, 2011. The patient was treated with WBT for a period of 9 weeks from Feb 9th to Apr 16th. She stayed 6 weeks in hospital and took oriental medicine prescribed by EWCC. Computed tomography (CT) and blood test were used to evaluate the disease progression of the patient. Results : Mass of chest CT was stable for 2 months. The patient's quality of life improved during her hospital stay. Conclusions : This case study supports WBT may have efficacy in treating advanced thymic cancer patients.

Progress : A 33 year old female patient diagnosed with left breast cancer stage II was admitted to EWCC (East-West Cancer Center) in November of 2009. She had planned chemotherapy. She was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and physiotherapy for a period of 4 months, from Nov 5th, 2009 to Feb 18th 2010. We evaluated the grade of chief complaints and performed blood tests periodically. Results : TKM alleviates symptoms induced by anticancer chemotherapy. Nausea, headache, dizziness and chemotherapyinduced peripheral neuropathy were reduced. Quality of life was also upward. Conclusions : This case study supports TKM's potential efficacy in treating breast cancer patients suffering from anticancer chemotherapy.
