  • Children play a crucial role in the lives of parents, but research on the parent-child relationship has focused mainly on its impact on parents' social relationships and happiness. This study explored how parenting motives affect the association between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being. Previous studies have suggested that the psychological benefits of achievement or positive experiences in specific life domains are dependent on the perceived importance of such domains. Thus, we hypothesized that a satisfying relationship with children can strongly predict the subjective well-being of parents with elevated parenting motives. The study included Korean (Study 1) and American (Study 2) participants. Results of both studies demonstrated a pronounced positive correlation between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being in individuals with high levels of parenting motives. This moderating effect persisted even after controlling for relevant covariates (e.g., gender, age, and Big 5 personality traits). Notably, this effect was particularly evident in subfactors of subjective well-being, which is negative affect.

  • Purpose: It is crucially important that indoor luminous conditions of built environments be carefully studied so as to promote comfort and occupants' well-being. Method: The current study therefore focuses on the lit aspect of an enclosed space considered to be a resting room ($4.5m{\times}6.32m{\times}2.5m$). Particularly, on the effect that light levels and light color temperatures have on the physiological and psychological responses of resting occupants. To do so, a questionnaire survey was carried out on 50 subjects. The independent variables for the experiment included 9 different luminous environment conditions setup using 3 different levels of illuminance (50 lx, 150 lx, 300 lx) and 3 different color temperatures (2000 K, 3800 K, 5600 K). A questionnaire was utilized in determining which conditions were preferred by occupants. Result: As it turns out, indoor luminous environment designed for relaxation purposes should display luminance levels of at least 150 lx and 3800 K of color temperature in order to provide a visually comfortable environment suitable for the occupant's relaxation while at the same time promoting the psychological and HRV well-being of resting occupants.

  • In societies emphasizing the importance of youthful appearance, attitudes toward aging are closely related to how individuals perceive their own bodies, which can be a major determinant of psychological well-being among older adults. The purpose of this study was to examine the associations between attitudes toward aging, positive body image, and life satisfaction among older Korean adults, based on relative deprivation theory and social identity theory. Employing an online survey questionnaire, data was collected from 408 Korean aged 65 and over. The proposed research model was examined via partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Results revealed that higher levels of psychosocial loss were associated with lower positive body image, while higher levels of physical change and psychological growth - a good example were associated with higher positive body image. Higher levels of positive body image were associated with higher life satisfaction. Overall, positive attitudes toward aging may increase positive body image and life satisfaction among older adults, controlling for subjective financial and health status. The results of this study emphasize that we should not overlook the importance of positive body image in psychological well-being among older adults.

  • Concerns about meat quality, including chicken meat, for the human diet has led to many attempts to manipulate the carcass fat and increase the eating quality. For actual eating quality, the birds must be grown and finished in a manner that results in meat that are tender, succulent and of good flavor, as well as being free from any foreign taint, flavor or safety hazard. Tenderization treatment with high voltage(820V) electrical stimulation and prechill muscle tensioning would improve the tenderness of chicken meat. Proper programs for the withdrawal of feed and water require a team approach for maximizing yield of meat and minimizing carcass contamination. Also effding of supplemental levels of-tocopherol to poultry with vegetable or fish oils increases of desirable polyunsaturated fatty acid(PUFA) content and stablizes the meat against rancidity and fish off-flavors. The nutritional effects of varying dietary ingredients on broiler carcass fat content are also important. Increasing the levels of energy in the ration increases the carcass fat content, while increasing the proteing levels decreases carcass fat content. Supplement-tation of poultry diets with amino acids such as methionine, lysine, glycine and tryptophan as well as amino acid such as well as amino acid mixtures can reduce body fat deposition. Normal stress leads to chicken muscular damage resulting in reduced meat quality, but this can be controlled by preslaughter management practices. Feed manufactures can utilize ntilize nutrient modulation to control pale soft exudative(PSE)syndrome. Finally, the success in poultry meat production depends on the consistent achievement of carefully selected levels of quality. Quality assurance should be the wider function of incorporating quality into the production system and the combination of motivating quality into actions and operations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between female adolescents's relationships with their parents, psychological well-being, and attitudes towards eating. General characteristics of the subjects such as their school grades, and religion, and their parents' level of educational, marital status, and income were also analyzed in relation with the three major variables. Female adolescents' psychological well-being consisted of two indices: self-esteem and depression. The sample of this study consisted of 419 female students from 4 middle schools and 2 high schools located in Jeollabuk-Do province and the data were collected by using the method of self-administered questionnaires. The results of the analyses showed that there were significant differences in the level of parental attachment across parents' marital status, father's education level, and family income. Participants' psychological well-being levels were also different according to their grades, parents' marital status, and father's education level and income; and the level of eating attitude was different according to their school grades. The correlation analyses results indicated that parental attachment was positively related to self-esteem but negatively to a depressive mood. In addition, female students' eating attitudes were negatively associated with parental attachment and self-esteem, but positively with a depressive mood. Finally, multiple regression analysis found that a negative eating attitude was strongly influenced by a depressive mood, while parental attachment seemed to influence eating attitude indirectly through a depressive mood.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing suicidal ideation in male baby boomers. Methods: This was a descriptive survey study. Data were collected from December, 2012 to June, 2013 from 194 participants. The instruments used included a suicidal ideation questionnaire, somatic symptoms scale, spiritual well-being scale, communication with spouse scale, and social support scale. Data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results: Suicidal ideation was influenced by learning needs on psychological coping, somatic symptoms, existential spiritual well-being, and communication with spouse. Somatic symptoms (${\beta}$=.39, p<.001), existential spiritual well-being (${\beta}$=-.20, p=.009), learning needs on psychological coping (${\beta}$=.16, p=.008), and communication with spouse (${\beta}$=-.15, p=.031) accounted for 37% regarding suicidal ideation in male baby boomers. Conclusion: We found an association of lower levels of existential spiritual well-being and communication with spouse, higher suicidal ideation. Higher suicidal ideation was also observed in people who had no learning needs on psychological coping compared with those who had. Based on the outcomes of this study, design of an intervention program that emphasizes existential spiritual well-being and communication with spouse is necessary in order to decrease suicidal ideation in male baby boomers.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among psycho-social well-being, and health perception and behavior in clinical nurses. Methods: The data were collected from 362 nurses employed at five general hospitals. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess demographics and job characteristics, health perception and behavior, depression, and psycho-social stress. The data were analysed using Cronbach's alpha, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: While nurses perceived themselves to be in good health, represented by a high mean for health perceptions, actual health behavior was poor as the mean for health behavior was low. Forty two percents of the subjects were categorized as having major depression and high-stress levels. There were statistically significant differences in psycho-social well-being according to age, marital status, years of employment, and monthly salary. Also, there were significant differences in psycho-social well-being according to health perception, regular meals and exercise, sufficient sleep, job related injury and accident, and absences for ill. Conclusion: In order to prevent depression and improve psycho-social well-being among clinical nurses, organizational support and health management needs to be focused on high-risk nurses. Furthermore, it is essential to consider the health perception and behavior of clinical nurses.

  • This study investigated the effect of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) extract on improving blood triglycerides according to the extraction solvent using 3T3-L1 cells. Lemon balm was extracted with water (MOW100), 70% ethanol (MOE70), 50% ethanol (MOE50), and 30% ethanol (MOE30). To verify its efficacy on improving blood triglycerides, cell viability, lipid accumulation, triglyceride (TG) content, and expressions of protein kinase A (PKA), adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL), hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL), perilipin, and CGI-58 proteins were evaluated. Cytotoxicity was not evident up to an extract concentration of 1 mg/mL. Lipid accumulation and TG content were decreased in a concentration-dependent manner compared to their levels in the control group. When the MOW100 extract was applied at a concentration of 0.2 mg/mL, an inhibitory effect was evident, with lipid accumulation inhibited by 21.3% and TG content reduced by 32.7%. PKA phosphorylation and ATGL HSL and CGI-58 levels were increased. The data indicate that lemon balm extract obtained using water is more efficacious than extracted with ethanol. The aqueous extract shows potential in triglyceride control through lipolysis and lowering triglyceride levels.
