The horizontal thermal storage tank with heat pipe which is suitable for the sensible heat storage system is able to store a hot water from the heat source such as heating pad efficiently and to supply a hot water to load rapidly. And arrangement of heating pad play an important role in thermal flow and thermal storage efficiency. In this experiments, number of heating pad is ranged from three, five and nine, and when there is no change on number of heating pad, arrangements are two types of concentration-type and dispersion-type. Strong entrainment take place in the case of concentration-type of heating pad, and rapid temperature rise(${\Delta}{\doteqdot}1.6{\sim}3.2^{\circ}C$) in the tank is obtainable on the concentration-type than dispersion-type. In the constant number of heating pad, the concentration-type has the higher efficiency with about $5{\sim}6%$ than the dispersion-type Therefore, concentration-type of heating pad is an efficient design in constant number of heating pad.
Water quality is monitored at 1,837 points which are streams and sources for water supply in Karea. The monitoring carry out the measurement of 16 parameters of pH, BOD, SS, DO and so on with once a month, and of other parameters such like heavy metal with once a quarter. But most of the monitoring is carried out uncontinuously, so it is very difficult to understand exactly the changes of water quality compared with continuous monitoring. Therefore, real time monitoring system was equipped with basic parameters such as pH, temperature, DO, turbidity and electric conductivity at 25 major sources of water supply after installation of Noryangjin and Dukdo in 1974. But the systems have some problems which cannot be considered the sampling sites to represent for water quality of stream of lake, and can be caused a change of water quality by long distance from analyzer to intake pipe. Therefore, it has carefully to evaluate selection of sample sites for real time monitoring system. Also, problems on the area has been to identify which parameters are best suited to monitoring stream of lake water and the differences, of analyzing results compared with manual analyzing. This paper presents some approaches to handle such problems, namely selection of sampling site and measurable parameters, to connect with bio-monitoring system solving a Limitation of measurable parameters, The bio-monitoring system of an early alarm that is desirable to perceive a toxic material inflow into stream can be applied to continuos water quality monitoring system effectively. Also, this paper presents to build a on line system transmitting immediately from a mobile analyzer house or container to main monitoring center the results of analyzer by a telemeter.

Recently large capacity of electric equipment and increasing in atomic power generation are shown. One of the reason is shortage of the electric power supply for air conditioning load during summer. And every consumer is concerning about economical refrigeration and air conditioning system to decreases electric power consumption and decrease in global warming. For these necessities, ice making thermal storage system is required. Therefore, in this paper, the possibility of continuous slurry ice making using flowing organic water solution in cooled circular tube has been investigated. The experiments was carried out under some parameters of concentration and velocity of water solution, temperature of cooled tube wall, and control pressure in tube, As a result, four types of operating conditions in the pipe, that was supercooling, continuous ice making, intermittent ice making and ice blockage, were classified . And it was found that the critical condition for continuous ice making was acquired as a function of these experimental parameters.

After studying several methods of the application a device of a treated sewage in anticipation of the future shortage of the duty of water, we could have some conclusion as the following : Advanced treatment systems arc essential prerequisites in reusing a treated sewage. And in a short term, the application of reusing a treated sewage should go first to new building areas near the sewage but for the long run, it should cover the whole area of Taegu, it is desirable that the pipe line networks which include dual water systems as well as water supply should be spread throughout the whole city. The city authorities have to make every effort to step up publicity activities on this plan to all the citizens and building owners to steadily carry out this project and encourage private constructors to participate with the help of SOC. And for the long run, it is desirable that the application of reusing a treated sewage should be obligatory.
Steady state analysis of pressure and flow in water supply piping systems is a problem of great importance in hydraulic engineering. The basic equations consist of continuity equation and energy equation. The network equations are solved iteratively by using linear solution method. The resulting linear simultaneous equations are solved by frontal method. Frontal method, which is suitable to sparse matrix, gathers only non-zero entries in coefficient matrix. The suggested methodology can analyze faster than the existing routines by using smaller computer memory. The model presented in this study shows accurate and efficient results for various piping systems.

In this study, the leak signal was measured by using an accelerometer to analyze the basic data and methodology for the development of the leak point estimation method in the water supply pipe. The measured results were analyzed by frequency analysis and cross-correlation analysis for leakage signals, and the error range was compared and analyzed with the actual leak point distance. As a result, it was confirmed that the vibration intensity due to leakage from the water leakage point was attenuated according to the distance. In the case of the ductile iron casting used in the experiment, the intensity of the signal at the 945 Hz, 1,500 Hz, 2,300 Hz band was increased with the change of the pressure in the pipe at 4mm of leakage hole. Also, it was confirmed that as the water pressure increases, the intensity of the leak signal increases but the similarity of the signal decreases. The results of this study confirm that the accelerometer sensor can be used efficiently for leak detection and it can be used as a basic data for the analysis for the development of leak point estimation method in the future.

A contamination event occurring in water distribution networks (WDNs) needs to be handled with the appropriate mitigation strategy to protect public health safety and ensure water supply service continuation. Typically the mitigation phase consists of contaminant sensing, public warning, network inspection, and recovery. After the contaminant source has been detected and treated, contaminants still exist in the network, and the contaminated water should be flushed out. The recovery period is critical to remove any lingering contaminant in a rapid and non-detrimental manner. The contaminant flushing can be done in several ways. Conventionally, the opening of hydrants is applied to drain the contaminant out of the system. Relying on advanced information and communication technology (ICT) on WDN management, warning and information can be distributed fast through electronic media. Water utilities can inform their customers to participate in the contaminant flushing by opening and closing their house faucets to drain the contaminated water. The household draining strategy consists of determining sectors and timeslots of the WDN users based on hydraulic simulation. The number of sectors should be controlled to maintain sufficient pressure for faucet draining. The draining timeslot is determined through hydraulic simulation to identify the draining time required for each sector. The effectiveness of the strategy is evaluated using three measurements, such as Wasted Water (WW), Flushing Duration (FD), and Pipe Erosion (PE). The optimal draining strategy (i.e., group and timeslot allocation) in the WDN can be determined by minimizing the measures.
If pipes are damaged in a water distribution network (WDN), adjacent valves are closed to isolate the pipes for repair. Due to the closed valves, parts of WDN are isolated from water supply sources. The isolated area is divided into Intended Isolation Area (IIA) and Unintended Isolation Area (UIA). The IIA occurs by intention to isolate the damaged pipe, while UIA is unintentionally disconnected from the sources due to IIA. Thus, the extension of isolated area and suspended flows are mainly affected by number and location of installed valves in WDN. In this study, optimization models were developed to determine optimal valve locations in WDN. In a single-objective model, total water supply suspension is minimized, while a multi-objective model intends to simultaneously minimize the suspended flow and valve installation cost. Optimal valve placement results obtained from both models were compared and analyzed using a sample application network.
As an interest in the development of artificial intelligence(AI) technology in the water supply sector increases, we have developed an AI algorithm that can predict improvement decision-making ratings through repetitive learning using the data of pipe condition evaluation results, and present the most reliable prediction model through a verification process. We have developed the algorithm that can predict pipe ratings by pre-processing 12 indirect evaluation items based on the 2020 Han River Basin's basic plan and applying the AI algorithm to update weighting factors through backpropagation. This method ensured that the concordance rate between the direct evaluation result value and the calculated result value through repetitive learning and verification was more than 90%. As a result of the algorithm accuracy verification process, it was confirmed that all water pipe type data were evenly distributed, and the more learning data, the higher prediction accuracy. If data from all across the country is collected, the reliability of the prediction technique for pipe ratings using AI algorithm will be improved, and therefore, it is expected that the AI algorithm will play a role in supporting decision-making in the objective evaluation of the condition of aging pipes.

Particulates in drinking water distribution system (DWDS) are mostly influenced by internal corrosion of metal pipes and sediment in pipelines due to the solution of this effect is limited. The particle size, component and properties of compounds for particulates in distributed water are different and the difference of these characteristics will be occurred by the kind of facilities, pipe condition, external factors and supply system etc. In this study, conducting the investigation of water quality in DWDS researches with particulates in the water. Monitoring sites were each water supply reservoir and the end of water supply area in DWDS. To collect particulate material at each sampling site, $47{\phi}$ glass microfiber filter type GF/C was performed using a filtration. Substances that the effect of the turbidity in the water according to particulate suspended solids and inorganic materials is due to the increasing particulates in the end of DWDS were increased. The result of compounds analysis by using X-ray diffraction (XRD) were Goethite (${\alpha}$-FeOOH), Magnetite ($Fe_3O_4$) in the end of DWDS and Quartz ($SiO_2$), Yeelimite ($Ca_4Al_6O_{12}SO_4$) at the effluent of waterworks and reservoirs. There were differences the compounds and sediments in the releasing or remaining water distribution facilities.
