오일샌드 플랜트용 초경합금과 스테인레스강의 진공브레이징 특성평가 (Evaluation of Vacuum Brazed WC and Stainless Steel for Oil Sands Plant)

  • Microstructure and tensile strength of the vacuum brazed stainless steel(STS304) and WC-8 %Co were investigated. For brazing, the BNi-2, 3(A.W.S standard) were used as filler metals. It was found that metallic compounds of W-Ni were observed at the between WC metrix and brazed layer. Among these filler metals, the BNi-2 showed excellent wettability, but tensile strength was lower than BNi-3. The fracture of the brazed specimens with BNi-2 was occurred at the between WC metrix and brazed layer. The fracture of the brazed specimens with BNi-3 was occurred at the between WC metrix and brazed layer, and between brazed layer and stainless steel.

FeO, $TiH_2$, Carbon 원료분말을 이용한 Fe-TiC 나노 복합분말 제조 및 소결

  • Fe계 TiC 합금은 미량의 합금원소를 첨가시켜 경화능, 내식성, 내마모성 성질을 개선한 특수 공구용 재료로서 현재 절삭, 내마모성, 광산, 금형재료 등의 분야에 널리 사용되고 있다. 금속과 세라믹의 복합재료인 초경합금은 비열처리용 공구강으로 WC, TiC 등의 4, 5, 6족 금속탄화물에 Co, Ni, Fe등의 철족이 결합금속으로 소결한 복합재료로 WC-Co계 초경합금이 주종을 이루고 있으나, 전략 소재로서 고가인 Co 원료를 대체하기 위한 재료로서 초경재료의 고경도와 공구강의 경제성 및 가공성의 장점을 이용한 Fe-TiC계 초경합금의 연구가 다양하게 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 Fe기지에 서브마이크론 크기의 미세한 TiC 입자가 균일하게 분산된 Fe-TiC 복합분말을 경제적으로 제조하기 위해 순수한 Fe, Ti 원료분말에 비해 단가가 낮고 미세 분쇄가 용이한 FeO, $TiH_2$ 분말을 고에너지 밀링 후 반응 열처리 시키는 유사 기계화학적 공정을 시도하였다. 조성비 Fe-30wt%TiC 복합분말을 제조하기위해 마이크론(micron) 크기의 FeO, $TiH_2$, C 분말을 사용하였고, 1단계로 FeO와 C을 고에너지 밀링으로 혼합 후 반응시켜 환원시키는 공정과 2단계로 이렇게 환원된 분말과 TiH2를 고에너지 밀링으로 다시 혼합, 분쇄한 후 반응열처리 하는 두 단계 공정을 사용하였다. FeO의 환원 단계에서는 $700{\sim}1,000^{\circ}C$ 온도 범위에서 1시간 유지하였고, 고에너지 밀링 시 밀링시간, 회전속도를 변수로 두고 실험하였다. 환원된 분말은 수평관상로를 이용해 아르곤분위기에서 $1,000{\sim}1300^{\circ}C$까지 1시간 유지하여 반응열처리시켜 Fe-TiC 복합분말을 제조하였다. 준비된 복합분말을 XRD와 FE-SEM, EDS, 입도분석기 (LPSA) 등을 이용해 분말의 형태와 특성, 상, 조성, 입도, 분산도 등을 조사하였다. 제조된 Fe-TiC 나노복합분말을 방전플라즈마소결(SPS) 과 상압소결 실험을 진행하였다. Fe-TiC 복합분말 제조공정의 첫 번째 단계인 FeO의 환원반응은 $800^{\circ}C$이상의 온도에서 Fe로 환원이 진행됨을 확인하였다. 두 번째 단계인 반응열처리공정에서는 $1,000^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 TiC가 형성됨을 XRD 상분석을 통해 확인할 수 있었고, $1,100^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도에서 반응열처리를 했을 때 XRD 분석결과와 산소 조성 분석 결과로부터 반응의 완결성과 순도에서 최적 온도 조건임을 확인하였다. 온도를 $1,300^{\circ}C$로 증가시킬 경우 반응의 완결성에 큰 변화가 없는 반면 분말입자간의 목형성이 일어나 가소결 되는 것을 FE-SEM을 통해 관찰하였다. 또한 최적조건으로 제조된 Fe-TiC 복합분말의 입도분석과 FE-SEM/EDS 관찰/분석을 시행한 결과 평균 입도 0.6 ${\mu}m$의 미세한 Fe-TiC 복합분말 내에 Fe분말 주변과 내부에 나노크기의 TiC입자가 균일하게 분산되어 존재하는 것을 확인하였다.

STD-11 합금공구강과 P-20 초경합금재의 WEDM 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Wire-Cut Electrical Discharge Machining for STD-11 Alloy Steel and P-20 Tungsten Carbide Alloy)

  • From the experimental study of Wire-Cut Electric Discharge Machining of STD-11 alloy steel and P-20 tungsten carbide, the characteristics such as hand drum form and discharge gap have been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Hand drum form can be improved when gap have been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Hand drum form can be improved when gap voltage and spark cycle become smaller, thickness become thinner, wire tension become larger and the no of cutting increases. When 60mm thickness tungsten carbide is cut in normal condition, hand drum form becomes larger due to the low conductivity machining allowance become slightly larger when peak discharge current and gap voltage become larger, or wire tension becomes smaller. Under the same condition, machining allowance of tungsten carbide is larger than alloyed steel by 1/100mm.

초경합금기판 위에 성장되는 다이아몬드 막의 특성 (Characteristics of Diamond Films Deposited on Cemented Tungsten Carbide Substrate)

  • Diamond films were deposited on the cemented tungsten carbide WC-Co cutting insert substrates by using both microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition(MWPCVD) and radio frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition (RFPCVD) from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture. Scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were used to investigate the microstructure and phase analysis of the materials and Raman spectrometry was used to characterize the quality of the diamond coating. Diamond films deposited using MWPCVD from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture show a dense, uniform, well faceted and polycrystalline morphology. The compressive stress in the diamond film was estimated to be (1.0∼3.6)$\pm$0.9 GPa. Diamond films which were deposited on the WC-Co cutting insert substrates by RFPCVD from $CH_4$$-H_2$$-O_2$ gas mixture show relatively good adhesion, very uniform, dense and polycrystalline morphology.

  • In this research, to study tungsten carbide alloy(Co 0.5%) ultra precision turning possibility that is used Glass Molding Press(GMP) using conventional (Rake angle $-25^{\circ}$) single crystal diamond bite observed machining surface condition, surface roughness($R_a$), diamond bite cutting edge after tungsten carbide alloy ultra precision turning. Suggested and designed optimum chamfer bite shape to suggest ultra precision optimum bite using Finite Element Analysis(FEM). After machining tungsten carbide alloy ultra precision turning using optimum chamfer bite and comparing with conventional bite machine result and studied optimum chamfer bite design inspection and also tungsten carbide ultra precision turning possibility for high temperature compression glass lens molding.

방전드릴링 시 발생하는 초경합금의 표면전해부식 방지 (ED-drilling of WC-Co to Minimize Electrolytic Corrosion on a Workpiece Surface)

  • In this study, a simple and effective method was proposed to minimize electrolytic corrosion on the workpiece during ED-drilling using water as a working fluid. The adhesion of a cover plate onto the surface of the workpiece was greatly effective for suppressing electrolytic corrosion during ED-drilling. The experiment revealed that the adhesion of the cover plate prevented corrosion without causing significant changes in machining characteristics. Using the machining method proposed in this paper, electrolytic-corrosion-free holes can be machined without change in the machinery system. By using corrosion-free hole as a start hole for wire EDM, a lead frame die with high quality was fabricated successfully.

  • In order to investigate the microstructure and mechanical properties of WC-10 wt% Co insert tool alloy fabricated by PIM (Powder Injection Molding) process, the feedstock of WC-10 wt% and wax used as a kind of binder were mixed together by two blade mixer. After injection molding, the debinding process was carried out by two-steps. First, solvent extraction, in which the binder was eliminated by putting the specimen into normal hexane for 24 hrs at $60^{\circ}C$, and subsequently thermal debinding which was conducted at $260^{\circ}C$ and $480^{\circ}C$ for 6 hrs in the mixed gas of $H_2/N_2$, respectively. Meantime, in order to compensate the decarburization due to hydrogen, 1.2~1.8% of carbon was added to ensure the integrity of the phase. Finally, the specimens were sintered in vacuum under different temperatures, and the relative density of 99.8% and hardness of 2100 Hv can be achieved when sintered at $1380^{\circ}C$, even the TRS is lower than the conventional sintering process.

Ti/WC-Co 기판위에 나노결정 다이아몬드 박막 증착 시 DC 바이어스 효과 (Effect of DC Bias on the Deposition of Nanocrystallin Diamond Film over Ti/WC-Co Substrate)

  • 초경합금 위에 RF Magnetron Sputter를 이용하여 Ti 중간층을 증착 후 MPECVD(Microwave Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition) 시스템을 이용하여 나노결정 다이아몬드 박막을 증착 하였다. 공정압력, 마이크로웨이브 전력, Ar/$CH_4$ 조성비, 기판온도를 일정하게 놓고 직류 bias의 인가 여부를 변수로 하고 증착시간을 0.5, 1, 2시간으로 변화시켜 박막을 제작하였다. 제작된 시편은 FE-SEM과 AFM을 이용하여 다이아몬드 박막의 표면과 다이아몬드 박막의 표면 거칠기 등을 측정하였고, Raman spectroscopy와 XRD를 이용하여 다이아몬드 결정성을 확인하였다. Automatic Scratch �岵謙�ter를 이용하여 복합박막의 층별 접합력을 측정하였다. 바이어스를 인가하지 않고 다이아몬드 박막을 증착할 경우 증착 시간이 증가할수록 다이아몬드 입자의 평균 크기가 증가하며 입자들이 차지하는 면적이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 그러나 1시간이 경과해도 아직 완전한 박막은 형성되지 못하고 2시간 이상 증착 시 완전한 박막을 이루는 것이 확인되었다. 이에 비해서 바이어스 전압을 인가할 경우 1시간 내에 완전한 박막을 이루었다. 표면 거칠기는 바이어스를 인가한 경우가 그렇지 않은 경우에 비해서 조금 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 바이어스 효과는 표면에서의 핵생성 밀도 증가와 재핵생성 속도 증가에 기인하는 것으로 해석된다.

초경합금에 나노결정질 다이아몬드 코팅 시 금속 중간층의 효과 (Effect of Metal Interlayers on Nanocrystalline Diamond Coating over WC-Co Substrate)

  • For the coating of diamond films on WC-Co tools, a buffer interlayer is needed because Co catalyzes diamond into graphite. W and Ti were chosen as candidate interlayer materials to prevent the diffusion of Co during diamond deposition. W or Ti interlayer of $1{\mu}m$ thickness was deposited on WC-Co substrate under Ar in a DC magnetron sputter. After seeding treatment of the interlayer-deposited specimens in an ultrasonic bath containing nanometer diamond powders, $2{\mu}m$ thick nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films were deposited at $600^{\circ}C$ over the metal layers in a 2.45 GHz microwave plasma CVD system. The cross-sectional morphology of films was observed by FESEM. X-ray diffraction and visual Raman spectroscopy were used to confirm the NCD crystal structure. Micro hardness was measured by nano-indenter. The coefficient of friction (COF) was measured by tribology test using ball on disk method. After tribology test, wear tracks were examined by optical microscope and alpha step profiler. Rockwell C indentation test was performed to characterize the adhesion between films and substrate. Ti and W were found good interlayer materials to act as Co diffusion barriers and diamond nucleation layers. The COFs on NCD films with W or Ti interlayer were measured as less than 0.1 whereas that on bare WC-Co was 0.6~1.0. However, W interlayer exhibited better results than Ti in terms of the adhesion to WC-Co substrate and to NCD film. This result is believed to be due to smaller difference in the coefficients of thermal expansion of the related films in the case of W interlayer than Ti one. By varying the thickness of W interlayer as 1, 2, and $4{\mu}m$ with a fixed $2{\mu}m$ thick NCD film, no difference in COF and wear behavior but a significant change in adhesion was observed. It was shown that the thicker the interlayer, the stronger the adhesion. It is suggested that thicker W interlayer is more effective in relieving the residual stress of NCD film during cooling after deposition and results in stronger adhesion.

  • The high strength and wear-resistant metal bonded diamond wheel was applied to the drilling process of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), The helical-feed drilling method was use for the first time to overcome the limit of drilling depth of the conventional drilling process and to improve the dressing of the wheel. The helical-feed drilling method was found effective at high cutting speed without the limit of drilling depth.
