  • First we provide an overview of how virtual enterprise works, including the lifecycle of a virtual enterprise, expected benefits from a virtual enterprise, and various types of collaborative networks. Next we focus on a problem encountered in the port logistics industry and suggest that implementation of a virtual enterprise can be a good solution to the problem. Then we suggest a prototype of the virtual enterprise in the port logistics industry and a freight transportation process as a business process in the prototype. And then we introduce major functions of the business process management system (BPMS) which, in general, can be regarded as a tool to create the virtual enterprise. Finally by adopting a specific BPMS, we illustrate how to design and implement the freight transportation process in the prototype.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present Smart Virtual TRS(Trunked Radio System) service that gives the TRS function in mobile network with smart phone application and server. TRS is essential equipment of logistics vehicle so, most of trunk drivers uses TRS frequently. Developed service is based on smartphone without TRS equipment. Therefore, Smart virtual TRS included in TMS(Transportation Management System) has some effects for logistics company. i) Smart Virtual TRS gives better communication environment between office and drivers. ii) Smartphone App gives flexibility to TMS functions. iii) Smart Virtual TRS gives cost reduction effect.

  • To meet the soaring demand recently, South Korea big shipbuilders are examining two things. One is new investment in plant and equipment. The other is replacement of production resources. Considering plant & equipment investment and replacement of production resources, even if actual production ability would be enough, the real output could be affected by limitation of logistics with lack of analysis. As we set up big shipyard in virtual space, we could perform actual production by using confirm production plan in virtual space. We've analyzed the load of block stock, load of road and load of transporter for logistics effects are followed by production increase. This research is to determine the possible problems of those analyzed results and to present the resolution using the current layout. And then modified yard layout, we reanalyzed previous three logistics effects. This simulation model could help administrator to make rational decision for changing yard layout.

  • Proposed in the paper is an agent based and object-oriented methodology to create a virtual logistics support system model. The proposed virtual logistics support system model consists of three types of objects: the logistics force agent model(static model), the military supplies transport manager model(function model), the military supplies state manager model(dynamic model). A logistic force agent model consists of two agent: main function agent and function agent. To improve the reusability and composability of a logistics force agent model, the function agent is designed to adapt to different logistics force agent configuration. A military supplies transport manager is agent that get information about supply route, make decisions based on decision variables, which are maintained by the military supplies state manager, and transport military supplies. A military supplies state manager is requested military supplies from logistics force agent, provide decision variables such as the capacity, order of priority. For the implementation of the proposed virtual logistics force agent model, this paper employs Discrete Event Systems Specification(DEVS) formalism.

  • The purpose of this paper is to systemize the spatial studies of logistics industry by arranging the partially scattered current studies on spatial studies of logistics industry overall. Logistics industry now builds a complex spatial organization which has been developed to the stages of independent optimization by materials management and physical distribution providing specialized logistics services, logistics, and supply chain management including IT and management step by step. The complex spatial organization of logistics industry has been systematized with geographical space and virtual space, disintegration and integration, and intermediation and disintermediation. The three areas reported a dynamic characteristic overlapped in space. The dynamic characteristic has a dose relationship with interaction between IT and space of economic activities.

  • As systems become more complex today, verifying the safety of complex systems is becoming increasingly important. However, validation activities using actual systems face limitations in terms of time and cost. To overcome these limitations, the functions, characteristics, and operations of physical assets can be implemented in a virtual environment similar to the real world, allowing for validation through simulations under various scenarios. By performing validation in a virtual environment, iterative tests can be conducted through simulations in a realistic virtual environment without physical models during the conceptual design phase. Tests can also be performed under malfunction conditions or extreme conditions. In this study, we introduce a verification method for railway vehicles in a virtual environment and propose a method of applying virtual verification from a life cycle perspective.

  • This paper deals with developing a remote & real-time Computer-Aided Logistics Support (CALS) Systems through Information Super-Highway. A prototype of CALS is designed and implemented considering the environment of Information Super Highway. The concept of CSCW based virtual enterprise is discussed in con-nection with the four different activities. development of remote & virtual equipment controller remote-monitoring & inspection real time tracking of logistics information and web-based bidding and delivery system. A real implemented system is demonstrated under the Infor-mation Super-Highway with the corresponding software and hardware configuration.

  • The aim of this research is to propose new framework for taxonomy of various business and its concept. due to the changes in market space. This framework is three-dimension cubic model based on three concepts, business layer(BL), value chain(VC), and Real/Virtual(R/V) that symbolizes real environment and virtual (or cyber) space. We showed that this framework is able to describe all expected(or existed) business types in certain industry by the combinations of BL-VC-R/V on three dimension. In addition, we suggested new definition of e-business and e-Logistics from view of BL-VC-R/V. In order to test availability of framework, this framework was applied for logistics related business, and we classified typical business types existed (or expected) in logistics area.

  • Many conventional management methods have emphasized the minimization of required resources along the supply chain. Accordingly, this paper presents a proposed method called the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC)-aided system. It is based on object-oriented resource control, in order to accomplish a feed-forward control monitoring supply chain logistics. The system is supported by two main parts: (1) IT-based Technologies; and (2) VDC Models. They enable the system to convey proactive information from the detection technology to its linked visualization. The paper includes a field study as the system's pre-test: the Scaffolding Works in a LNG Mega Project. The study demonstrates a system of real-time productivity monitoring by use of the RFIDbased Mobile Information Hub. The on-line 'productivity dashboard' provides an opportunity to display the continuing processes for each work-package. This research project offers the observed opportunities created by the developed system. Future work will entail research experiments aimed towards system validation.
