Concrete structures are generally cracked in flexural tension at working loads. Concrete beams with asymmetric section details and crack patterns exhibit different flexural rigidity depending upon the sense of the applied flexural moment. In this paper, three different models, having the same natural period, of such SDOF bilinear dynamical systems have been proposed. The Model-I and Model-II have constant damping coefficient, but the latter is characterized by two stiffness coefficients depending upon the sense of vibration amplitude. The Model-III, additionally, has two damping coefficients as well. In this paper, the dynamical response of Model-III to sinusoidal loading has been investigated and compared with that of Model-II studied earlier. It has been found that Model-III exhibits regular and irregular sub-harmonics, jump phenomena and strong sensitivity to initial conditions, forcing frequency, system period as well as the sense of peak sinusoidal force. The constant sustained load has been found to affect the natural period of the dynamical system. The predictions of Model-I have been compared with those of the approximate linear model adopted in present practice. The behaviour exhibited by different models of the SDOF cracked elastic concrete structures under working loads and the theoretical and practical implications of the approach followed have been critically evaluated.

In order to be able to interact with the user to experience it as if it were real in virtual reality contents, input/output devices that make them feel the five senses of humans are required . In virtual reality (VR), devices that stimulate sight and hearing are the most representative. For a more realistic experience, suits and gloves that stimulate the sense of touch have recently been released, but there are not many cases applied to actual contents due to the limitation of device . In this paper, we analyze a virtual reality glove that can detect hand movement and touch in a virtual world. Based on the analysis, we propose an algorithm that can sense the intensity of collision with a VR object by tactile sense by improving the UI/UX using the vibration of the feedback method used in the existing virtual reality glove. In addition, the system implemented by the algorithm is applied to an actual case.

A vertical launching system(VLS) is a system for holding and firing missiles on surface ships. When a missile is launched in VLS, relative motion between canister and missile and drag force induced by wind can cause initial unstability of a missile. Thus dynamic analysis of initial behavior of vertically launched missile should be performed to prevent collision with any structure of a ship. In this study, dynamic analyses of initial behavior of vertically launched missile are performed using Monte-Carlo simulation, which relys on random sampling and probabilistic distribution of variables. Each parameter related with dynamic behavior of a missile is modeled with probability variables and Recurdyn, a commercial software for multi body dynamic analysis, is used to perform Monte-Carlo simulation. As a result, initial behavior of a missile is evaluated with respect to various performance indexes in a probabilistic sense and sensitivity of the each parameters is calculated.

Tuned mass damper is widely used in many applications of industry. The main advantage of tuned mass damper is that it can increase the damping ratio of system and reduce the vibration amplitude. Meanwhile, the natural frequency of system will be divided by two peaks, and the peak speeds are closely related to the mass and the stiffness of auxiliary mass system added. In addition, the damping ratio will also affect the peak frequency of the dynamic response. In the present research, the nonlinear mechanical characteristics of rubber is investigated and put into use, since it is usually manufactured as the spring element of tuned mass damper. By the sense of the nonlinear stiffness as well as the damping ratio which can be changed by preload applied on, the shape memory alloy is proposed to control the auxiliary mass system by self-optimizing. Supported by the experiment data of rubber, the 1 DOF theoretical model and finite element model based on computer simulation are implemented to perform the feasibility of the proposed semi-active tuned mass damper working on the drive shaft.

Subjective correspondence among visual variables, auditory variables and vibratory feedback to a hand was experimentally examined to improve usability of a remote controller. First, we studied the correspondence among visual variables represented on a screen or auditory variables and the duration of vibratory stimulus to the subjects' hand by subjective evaluation. Subjective rating method was used in ten items; suitability, comprehensibility, ease-to-use, naturalness, variety, activity, usualness, interest, wish-to-use and feeling of pleasure. Second, to show the effects of multi-modal interface using visual sense, the sense of auditory and vibratory sense, we combined positive stereotype of visual variables and auditory variables provided with the first experiment. The results showed some stereotype between visual variables or auditory variables and duration of vibratory stimulus. Some of the variables such as size, direction of motion, hue, brightness of color and volume of sound had high correspondence with the duration of vibration.
This paper presents an Electrotactile Display System (ETCS). One of the most important human sensory systems for human computer interaction is the sense of touch, which can be displayed to human through tactile output devices. To realize the sense of touch, electrotactile display produces controlled, localized touch sensation on the skin by passing small electric current. In electrotactile stimulation, the mechanoreceptors in the skin may be stimulated individually in order to display the sense of vibration, touch, itch, tingle, pressure etc. on the finger, palm, arm or any suitable location of the body by using appropriate electrodes and waveforms. We developed an ETCS and investigated effectiveness of the proposed system in terms of the perception of roughness of a surface by stimulating the palmar side of hand with different waveforms and the perception of direction and location information through forearm. Positive and negative pulse trains were tested with different current intensities and electrode switching times on the forearm or finger of the user with an electrode-embedded armband in order to investigate how subjects recognize displayed patterns and directions of stimulation.

The design of the exhaust manifold for the pulse converters of a 4 strokes high power medium-speed diesel engine is presented in terms of fatigue analysis. The said system undergoes thermal expansion due to high temperature of exhaust gas and is exposed to intrinsic vibration of the internal combustion engine. Moreover, the exhaust pulse generates pressure pulsating along the runner inside manifold. Under such circumstances, the design and construction of exhaust manifold must be carried out in a way to prevent early failure due to fracture. To validate the design concept, a test rig was developed to simulate the combination of thermal and vibrational movements, simultaneously. Experimental results showed that a certain sense of reliability can be achieved by considering a field factor obtained from the results of engine bench tests.

Investigation is performed on the characteristics and new control technique for general form of dynamic system under the randomly disturbance. Also, a controller design method in stochastic domain in studied, which is preliminary result in the course of research on the control of stochastic system. The governing equation is derived via F-P-K approach in stochastic sense. A controller is designed in term of auto power density and cross power density.

In this paper, the robust design and tolerancing of the stabilized mirror is performed to increase its stabilization performance under vehicle vibration. Based on the sensitivity analysis, the seven important control factors are first identified, and then the optimal as well as robust values in the sense of Taguchi method are obtained. Finally, the tolerances associated with each design variables are determined based on a successive sensitivity analysis of the simulated system response so that the deviation in the response from the target value meets the specification requirements. The proposed tolerancing method features that it is a robust but conservative design method and that the computational effort is much less than the Monte Carlo simulation method.

A hybrid technique that combines the advantages of binaural reproduction and sound field reproduction technique is proposed. The concept of HRTF-field, which is defined as the set of HRTFs corresponding to the various head dislocations, enables us to realize virtual source imaging over a wide area. Conventional binaural($2{\times}2$) reproduction system is redefined as a MIMO system composed of multiple control sources and multiple head locations, and HRTF variations corresponding to various head movement are quantified. Through the direct control of HRTF-field, reproduction error induced by head dislocation can be minimized in least-square-error sense, and consequential disturbances on the virtual source image can be reduced within a selected area. Simple lateralization examples are investigated, and the reproduction error of the proposed technique is compared to that of higher-order Ambisonics.
