Vibration isolation effect of floor impact sound by ceiling structure (바닥충격음에서의 천장구조에 따른 진동절연 효과)

  • This study aims to evaluate factors of ceiling structure influencing to the floor impact sound. For this reasons, we measured the vibration of ceiling and the floor impact sound by ceiling structure. The main results from this study are that ceiling structure makes worse to non-ceiling structure for an effect of air layer in heavy-weight floor impact sound. But it has an effect on light-weight floor impact sound about $2\sim8dB$.

  • Modal parameters of the total missile structure including a hinge mechanism are estimated by the experimental modal analysis. The free-free boundary condition is simulated by hanging the missile structure with a wire rope, and the missile structure is excited by the random vibration technique. Test results are used to verify the FE analysis, the 1-D FE model is modified by 3-D model at the hinge part. Consequently, the modal parameters of the missile structure are estimated preciously.

  • In ship structure, many parts are in contact with inner or outer fluid as stern, ballast and oil tanks. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance with exciting force of engine and propeller. Vibration characteristics of these tanks in contact with fluid are significantly affected by fluid coupling effect. Therefore it is important to exactly predict vibration characteristics of tank structure. In order to estimate the vibration characteristics, the fluid-structure interaction(FSI) problem should be solved precisely. But it is difficult to estimate exactly the magnitude of the fluid coupling effect because it has some problems such as a fluid-structure interaction, influence by the free surface, vibration modes of structural panels and depth of water. In this paper, with fluid coupling effect, the effect of structural constraint between panels on the vibration characteristics are investigated numerically and discussed.

Damage identification of belt conveyor support structure using periodic and isolated local vibration modes

  • Due to corrosion, a large number of belt conveyors support structure in industrial plants have deteriorated. Severe corrosion may result in collapse of the structures. Therefore, practical and effective structural assessment techniques are needed. In this paper, damage identification methods based on two specific local vibration modes, named periodic and isolated local vibration modes, are proposed. The identification methods utilize the facts that support structures have many identical members repeated along the belt conveyor and there exist some local modes within a small frequency range where vibrations of these identical members are much larger than those of the other members. When one of these identical members is damaged, this member no longer vibrates in those modes. Instead, the member vibrates alone in an isolated mode with a lower frequency. A damage identification method based on frequencies comparison of these vibration modes and another method based on amplitude comparison of the periodic local vibration mode are explained. These methods do not require the baseline measurement records of undamaged structure. The methods is capable of detecting multiple damages simultaneously. The applicability of the methods is experimentally validated with a laboratory model and a real belt-conveyor support structure.

  • Liquid storage rectangular tank structures are used in many fields of airplane and marine engineering. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate vibration characteristics of tank structures. Many Investigators studied the vibration of cylindrical and rectangular tank structures containing still fluid. In general, the eigenbehavior of interior liquid is characterized by the sloshing mode while that of the structure by the bulging mode. However, the structure deformation to the sloshing mode and the liquid free-surface fluctuation to the bulging mode have been neglected in the classical added-mass computation. in the present paper, we study the vibration characteristics with sloshing mode effect.

  • Distributed piezoelectric sensor and actuator have been designed for efficient vibration control of a cantilevered beam. Both PZT and PVDF are used in this study, the former as an actuator and the latter as a sensor for our integrated structure. For the PZT actuator, the position and size have been optimized. Optimal electrode shape of the PVDF sensor has been determined. For multi-mode vibration control, we have used two PZT actuators and a PVDF sensor. Electrode shading of PVDF is more powerful for modal force adjustment than the sizing and positioning of PZT. Finite element method is used to model the structure that includes the PZT actuator and the PVDF sensor. By deciding on or off of each PZT segment, the length and the location of the PZT actuator are optimize. Considering both of the host structure and the optimized actuators, it is designed that the active electrode width of PVDF sensor along the span of the beam. Actuator design is based on the criterion of minimizing the system energy in the control modes under a given initial condition. Sensor is designed to minimize the observation spill-over. Modal control forces for the residual(uncontrolled) modes have been minimized during the sensor design. Genetic algorithm, which is suitable for this kind of discrete problems, has been utilized for optimization. Discrete LQG control law has been applied to the integrated structure for real time vibration control. Performance of the sensor, the actuator, and the integrated smart structure has been demonstrated by experiments.

  • In this paper, an analysis technique is presented for performing the effective design of bus structure. Sensitivity analysis is carried out for the natural frequency of component structures consisting of bus B.I.W. Local vibration modes of substructure, which large affect on the global vibration mode of the bus B.I.W., are obtained through the sensitivity analysis technique using the mathematical chain rule. And also the design variables, which are determined from the sensitivity analysis, are redesigned through optimum design process. The proposed analysis technique shows that the bus structure can be effectively designed considering the vibration characteristics.

  • Most engineers, related to soil and civil dynamic field, have been interested in the direct dynamic design of building transmitted from soil and rock to structure due to blasting. However it is not easy to estimate the dynamic response of structures due to blasting by using analytical method because of difficulties of soil modeling, prediction of excitation force and so on. In this paper, dynamic analysis have been performed to predict vibration level and evaluate dynamic safety of structure adjacent to tunnel blast and the semi empirical method, which is based on vibration measurement data, has been employed to consider blast vibration characteristics.

  • Up to now. vibration analysis and vibration engineering have been developed, encompassing the aspects of both experimental and analytical techniques. Using experimental modal analysis or modal testing, the mode shapes and frequencies of practical structure can be measured accurately. Curve-Fitting Method is realized through experimental modal identification. In the experimental modal parameter estimation, the estimation of modal damping factor is difficult for complicated and large structure. Also numbers of Selected mode are determined before the procedure. This paper describes the vibration shape of the super-structure model of ship through experimental modal analysis.
