A Case Analysis of Study on Verbal Interaction during the Math Class of a Special Classroom (특수학급 수학 수업에서 나타난 언어적 상호작용 사례 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the cases of verbal interactions occurring during the mathematics lessons taught in middle school special classes in order to examine the elements and types of verbal interactions that occur between the teachers and students. Data were collected and analyzed for the sessions on geometric units that formed part of the mathematics lessons routinely implemented in the special classes. The analysis showed that the teachers initiated 237 (84.1%) of the 291 instances of verbal linguistic interactions. A total of 240 teachers' questions were analyzed, and questions in the area of knowledge occurred the most frequently, at 160 times (66.7%). A total of 617 student responses were analyzed, and short answers occurred the most frequently, at 367 times (59.5%). Teacher feedback occurred 581 times in total, and correct/incorrect (simple) feedback occurred the most frequently, at 234 times (40.3%). A total of 237 verbal interactions were observed between the teachers and children, and the I (RF) type (one teacher question, one student response, and one instance of teacher feedback) occurred most frequently, at 83 times (35.0%).

The Effects of Verbal Violence in Clinical Practice, Academic Stress Coping, and Depression on Professional Self-concepts among Korean Nursing Students (간호대학생의 임상실습 시 경험한 언어폭력, 학업스트레스 대처 및 우울이 전문직 자아개념에 미치는 영향)

  • The aims of this study were to investigate the effects of verbal violence experienced during clinical practice, emotional responses, academic stress coping, and depression on professional self-concepts of nursing students. Data were collected through a self-reported structured questionnaire form given to nursing students in grades 3-4 using convenient sampling methods from October 25 to November 1, 2017. As a result, 41.9% of the subjects experienced verbal violence during clinical practice. The frequency of experiences for verbal violence was '1 time' at 16.9%, '2 times' at 15.5%, and '3 times' at 4.7%. The verbal violence attackers were patients (42.9%), nurses (37.7%), and protector (15.5%). Emotional response was positively correlated with depression and frequency of verbal violence. Academic stress coping had a negative correlation with depression and a positive correlation with professional self-concept. Depression was negatively correlated with professional self-concept. Multiple regression analysis showed that academic stress coping and depression were statistically significant variables in the professional self-concept, and these variables had a 28% explanatory power. Therefore, in order to improve the professional self-concept of nursing students, it is necessary to develop a strategy to raise the level of academic stress coping and to reduce depression.

Analysis of Verbal Interaction Between Teachers and Students in Middle School Science Classroom (중학교 과학 수업에서 교사와 학생의 언어적 상호작용 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze verbal interaction between teachers and students in order to collect qualitative data on the characteristics of the interaction to enhance teaching efficacy. Total of 12 classes of eight science teachers were observed and were interviewed. The classes were video taped and all the verbal interactions were transcribed. The transcribed content and interviews were further analyzed to draw any conclusions on the verbal interaction between teachers and students. Analysis criteria for the data on the class and interview were developed based on the literature review and applied to analyze the collected content. The analyzed data showed that verbal interactions composed of confirmation questions for memorization, students' short responses and teacher's immediate feedbacks. The results of the study also suggested that there needs to be further studies on the interactional techniques for teacher in utilizing the class materials and activities. The teachers should acknowledge the importance of the questions and feedbacks of teachers for students to stimulate their sound learning through literatures.

The Development and Validation of Memory Tasks Using Smart Devices for School Aged Children (학령기 아동용 스마트기기를 사용한 기억력 평가과제의 개발 및 타당도 검증 연구)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to develop auditory-verbal and visual-spatial memory tasks using smart devices for children aged 8 to 10 years and examine their validity. Methods: One-hundred and fourteen school-aged children were recruited through internet advertising. We developed memory tasks assessing auditory-verbal memory, visual-spatial memory, and working memory, and then examined their construct validity by examining the developmental trend of the children's mean scores with age. In order to examine the concurrent validity of the tasks, we conducted correlation analyses between the children's scores on the newly developed auditory-verbal, visual-spatial memory and working memory tasks and their scores on well-known standardized tests of memory and working memory, including the auditory-verbal memory subtests of the Korean Luria-Nebraska Neuropsychological Battery for Children, Korean Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure Test, digit span and arithmetic subtest of Korean Educational Development Institute Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children Revised, and Corsi block test. Results: The memory and working memory scores measured by the newly developed tasks tended to increase with age. Further, there were significant correlations between the scores of the four cognitive tasks and the corresponding scores of the standardized assessment tools. Conclusion: This study revealed promising evidence for the validity of the memory tasks using smart devices, suggesting their utility for school-aged children in research and clinical settings.

  • Purpose - Non-verbal Communication with customers in restaurant business can play an important role because it affects customer behavior and attitudes as a means to develop and maintain long-term relationships with customers. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of non-verbal communication with customers and the effect of the influence on customer satisfaction, trust, and revisit intention. Research design, data, methodology - In order to verify the research models and hypotheses of this study, questions were prepared for each variable and data were collected through questionnaires. The questionnaire survey was conducted from March 27, 2018 to April 17, 2018, for those who agreed with the citizens of the Jeju area who visited the restaurant recently. 50 out of 100 were conducted by internet survey and 50 were surveyed. Thus, a total of 100 responses were used using structural equation modeling with Smartpls 3.0. Results - The results of the study are as follows. First, non-verbal communication has a significant impact on customer emotion. Second customer emotion have a significant impact on customer trust and satisfaction. Third, Customer satisfaction had positive a significant effect on revisit intention. Fourth, Customer trust had positive a significant effect on revisit intention. Conclusions - The implications of this study are following as: The food service company should continuously provide non-verbal communication training to employees so that they can respond to customers with the right attitude and bright smile. In particular, in the case of restaurant franchises, customer response manuals should be created and distributed to the franchisees, and a regular training program for the franchisees should be implemented to provide the same service to the customer. Second, CEOs should have to worry about what kind of experience he or she has left since leaving the store. It is also necessary to constantly look at what customers experience in their stores or in their brands, and what emotions they form through their experiences. Third, the more satisfied or trusted customers are formed through the service of the employee, the more loyal the restaurant business will be, and the more likely it is to make continuous revisit and positive word-of-mouth activities..

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the influence of the Parent's control based on young children's habit of lying. This study was carried out through experimental observations. For the purpose of this study a total of 798 participants were selected from 5 kindergartens located in Seoul, Gyeong-gi and Incheon. The results of the study showed that rather than parents being excessively strict towards their children and commanding discipline, the child rearing attitude of rational and logical explanation along with discretionary power given to young children of their own rules. This can allow young children to morally decide and behave themselves. Moreover, moral education that is suited for the young children's development in order to internally learn about the moral behaviors on their own is needed.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the relation among experience of verbal abuse, emotional labor, emotional intelligence, social support and turnover intention of hospital nurses. The survey was conducted with 189 hospital nurses working at general hospital in the city of S. The data was collected by using structured questionnaires as research tools from November 17, 2015 to November 27, 2015. The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS ver. 18.0 program. As a result of the correlation analysis between the nurse 's experience of verbal abuse, emotional labor, emotional intelligence, social support and turnover intention, the turnover intention of the nurse was a significantly positive correlation between the experiences of verbal abuse from the doctor, nurses, patients, and the caregiver and the emotional labor. Also, There is a significantly negative correlation between emotional intelligence and social support. In order to identify the factors influencing the turnover intention of the subjects, multiple regression analysis was performed. The statistically significant variables were emotional labor & the ER in the working department.

  • This study intended to verify the impact of non-verbal communication of servers in the service industry on the affective path among customer's positive emotion, self-identification, and loyalty(behavioral and attitudinal loyalty). The data of 397 customers of typical fast food restaurants in Busan and Gyeongsangbuk-do area were analyzed with SPSS and AMOS, and the hypotheses were verified through structural equation model after frequency analysis, as well as exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. According to the empirical analysis, all three components of server non-verbal communication in the service industry, body language, pseudo language, and body appearance, in respective order, had positive (+) influences on the positive emotion of customers. In addition, customer emotion had a positive (+) influence on brand self-identification. Finally, self-identification had a positive (+) influence on behavior loyalty and attitudinal loyalty. This study suggested practical implications and logical implications in the course of developing emotional loyalty for restaurant companies.

A study of elderly private security guards about their victimization experience in the workplace and their perception of occupational stress (노인경비원의 폭력피해 경험과 직무스트레스에 대한 연구)

  • While the average age of population increases, so as the number elderly workers employed in the private security in Korea. However, not many studies have examined the issues related to elderly security guards so far, especially regarding the experience of workplace violence victimization even though they are quite vulnerable. The current study surveyed elderly private security guards across the nation in an attempt to ask about their workplace violence victimization experience, including both physical and verbal ones. The researchers investigated if victimization experiences affect the elderly security guards' perception of occupational stress. The result indicated that the respondents experienced verbal violence more than physical violence, and perpetrators were usually customers, not their supervisor or coworkers. In addition, those who experienced verbal violence in the workplace, perceived a higher level of occupational stress. The experience of physical violence did not make a significant impact. Policies are discussed in order to decrease workplace violence towards elderly security guards.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the current trends of British Music Therapy and its effectiveness as a therapeutic intervention for the autistic children. This paper consists of two parts;Part one will provide a general picture of music therapy by looking at its fundamental concepts and therories. Part II(two case studies) will illustrate the actual processes of music therapy which can engender a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the autistic child. Through the first case study of Charlie, a 3 year and 9 month non-verbal autistic boy, we shall see how music therapy facilitates both non-verbal and verbal communication and a form of pretend play. The second case of Mark, a 10 year old autistic boy with complex emotional, behavioural and learning difficulties who had been sexually abused in the past, presents how the therapist’ acceptance of the child’ being and the shared experience of music therapy enable the child to express his difficulties and to develop the awareness of self and others. By exploring both musical and interpersonal aspects of music therapy, this gives an in depth examination of therapeutic processes. In order to clarify clinical procedure, this paper is viewed in musical, developmental and psychodynamic perspectives.
