  • In this paper, we proposed A Study on Construction of Infrastructure for Handicapped Parking Areas Using RFID. This paper is Construction of the Handicapped Parking Areas infrastructure Using RFID with 900MHz band, and researched the optimal position of the tag attached on the vehicle and the location of RFID reader in order to raise the efficiency of RFID reader and the recognition rate by the handicapped vehicle. The result of research is shown the optimal position of RFID reader establishment when the height of RFID reader is 170cm in height and the angle of $80^{\circ}$ with the ground when the vehicle traveling direction of the antenna and the RFID reader when the surface and the angle of $90^{\circ}$ showed the best position RFID readers installed. Parking spaces for the disabled in accordance with these results the RFID readers installed and it works in conjunction with enforcement camera car tagged crackdown on vehicles and other general management, the system is built to allow handicapped parking spaces that meet the intent of the original purpose being used as expected to contribute significantly.

  • This paper deals with the development of automatic docking system for the detachable mobile seat(DMS) of a vehicle for the handicapped people who are unable to ride in a car by oneself. Although such vehicles for the handicapped already exist, there is a need for a vehicle with improved docking method for convenience. This paper presents an automatic docking system using two ultrasonic sensors. In order to identify the precise location of the mobile seat in front of the vehicle door, the capability of ultrasonic sensor for detecting the part edge is analyzed and mathematical modeling is performed to measure the exact location of the side edge. And also, this paper presents an automatic docking method using this sensor system and the car lift which is provided in the inside of the car.

  • For handicapped person who have a handicap in moving, vehicles are indispensible, especially in the viewpoint of handicapped person's participation for social life by rehabilitation, the freedom of movement equaling to nonnal person is a important factor for improving the quality in being complete growth. In the purposese of positively social participation of handicapped person, this study investigated the general problems about using a means of transportation in the users of wheelchair and for solving these problems and approached, in the viewpoint of styling, vehicles were considered from character of self-supporting in getting on and off a car. For that first, this study was progressed by suggesting invigorating convenience facilities in already established vehicles for the user of a wheelchair and the part of moulding of modified vehicles in a structure. Moreover, making a selection of domestic vehicles arbitrarily, analyzing a internal structure of a boarding of a wheelchair, and suggesting the modified model of vehicles by the sketch.

  • Recently, personal mobility has been spreading and using increasing, but the pedestrian environment is getting worse and accidents are also rapidly increasing. Therefore, this study conducts a status survey related to the elements of pedestrian disturbances in personal mobility and identifies the problems. The following measures are presented to improve the pedestrian environment for the mobility handicapped through expert opinion surveys. The movement of individual mobility means in the walking space is prohibited, and the speed limit shall be stipulated to enable the mobility handicapped to walk safely and conveniently. Parking spaces will have to create obstacle zones in the parking area next to the roadway or at the border of sidewalks and roads, and regulations are needed to collect illegally parked vehicles. It is necessary to switch from the existing automobile-oriented road to the road structure considering the use of low and medium-speed vehicles.

  • Low Floor buses have no steps to get on or get off the main cabin to provide the old and the handicapped with easy access. The car body for the low floor bus was designed to consider Korean physical standard, passenger capacity (standee, seated, handicapped), arrangement of vehicle components, and bus law or regulations. It was designed as an one body, without any reinforcement armature, which has light-weight sandwich constructions with glass epoxy skins, aluminum honeycomb cores and inner-frames. In this paper, torsion rigidity of the designed car body was evaluated and compared with that of a car body with reinforcement armatures in the cabin. Finite element method verified that the designed car body without reinforcement armatures could satisfy requirements of torsion rigidity.

  • Objective: In order to secure the right to walk for the weak, such as the disabled, this study aims to suggest ways to improve the pedestrian environment by identifying factors that cause obstacles to walking. Design: Data Analysis and Perception Survey. Methods: The questionnaire was conducted separately between users of personal mobility vehicle and non-users. A total of 207 effective questionnaires were collected, and the analysis analyzed the perception of personal mobility vehicle by conducting frequency analysis using SAS 9.4. The survey focused on basic information on respondents, walking conditions, understanding of personal mobility vehicle, awareness of pedestrian space passage and parking, and awareness of the possibility of securing pedestrian rights due to new regulations. Results: First, when moving a pedestrian path by personal mobility vehicle, it shall be limited to less than the walking speed of pedestrians. Second, the parking location of the personal mobility vehicle is located at the boundary of the pedestrian road and the lane. Third, pay a fair price to park in a pedestrian space. Conclusions: It is necessary to improve the system to strengthen the contents of education to take into account the safety of pedestrians in education on how to use personal mobility vehicle.

  • Many taxis called "Mobum" in Seoul are empty and waiting along the curb during the day time. However, it is almost impossible for elderly and handicapped people, and women carrying babies to use them .It is because they can not serve passengers who request services by phone. If taxis, expecially "Mobum" taxis which offer high quality services, can be dispatched based on requests by phone, not only elderly and handicapped people but also auto commuters will easily call and use them. This paper shows a taxi dispatching system. The system minimizes the total empty vehicle hours under given number of empty vehicles and passengers and their locations. As a result, the system maximizes number of services and revenue under given number of taxis. The system adopts a well -known linear programming model and the model can fast and easily be solved by PC level linear programming packages. Also, practical solutions of the system's constraints such as size and travel time forecast are discussed.ecast are discussed.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to suggest a package layout guideline for low-floor bus by interview with passengers and observations of their behavior. Background: Increasing attention has been introduced the low-floor bus to be more suitable for use by transportation handicapped. Complex issues are involved in providing comfortable services to all people. We are going to suggest package layout guidelines for more comfortable and suitable travel to all people. Method: The two times of survey and video observation sessions were conducted on low-floor buses in Seoul; (1) a finding of potential issues in the first session, (2) a confirming of issues from the last session. Results: The three of major issues were founded in this study; (1) difficulties in supporting body when standing, (2) difficulties in sitting on front wheel pan seat, (3) difficulties in passing through the aisle. Conclusion: There were clear differences between public and transportation handicapped in using some tools which are used for support body such as roof hand rails, side hand rails, and hand rail rings. Some of design problems were founded to improve from the perspective of ergonomics and universal design. Such differences and design guidelines have to be considered in bus design as well as commercial vehicle. Application: The proposed design guidelines can be used to development of low-floor bus and other public transportations.

  • Both traffic congestion and air pollution in the metropolitan area can be greatly relieved by promoting the use of public transportation with zero emission system. Bus and subway are very convenient means for the people moving in the route areas. But they are not enough to satisfy handicapped or old people to have access to them and also do not solve environmental problems completely. New vehicle system, fuel cell track rapid transit, will be introduced as a countermeasure for such problems in the present paper.
