  • Previously we developed a method of coronal force-free field construction using vector potentials. In this method, the boundary normal component of the vector potential should be adjusted at every iteration step to implement the boundary normal current density, which is provided by observations. The method was a variational method in the sense that the excessive kinetic energy is removed from the system at every iteration step. The boundary condition imposing the normal current density, however, is not compatible with the variational procedure seeking for the minimum energy state, which is employed by most force-free field solvers currently being used. To resolve this problem, we have developed a totally new method of force-free field construction. Our new method uses a unique magnetic field description using two scalar functions. Our procedure is non-variational and can impose the boundary normal current density exactly. We have tested the new force-free solver for standard Low & Lou fields and Titov-Demoulin flux ropes. Our code excels others in both examples, especially in Titov-Demoulin flux ropes, for which most codes available now yield poor results. Application to a real active region will also be presented.

  • In this paper, two approximate analytical methods have been applied to forced nonlinear vibration problems to assess a high accurate analytical solution. Variational Iteration Method (VIM) and Perturbation Method (PM) are proposed and their applications are presented. The main objective of this paper is to introduce an alternative method, which do not require small parameters and avoid linearization and physically unrealistic assumptions. Some patterns are illustrated and compared with numerical solutions to show their accuracy. The results show the proposed methods are very efficient and simple and also very accurate for solving nonlinear vibration equations.

  • A plethora of applications from mathematical programmings, such as minimax, mathematical programming, penalization and fixed point problems can be framed as variational inequality problems. Most of the methods that used to solve such problems involve iterative methods, that is why, in this paper, we introduce a new extragradient-like method to solve pseudomonotone variational inequalities in a real Hilbert space. The proposed method has the advantage of a variable step size rule that is updated for each iteration based on previous iterations. The main advantage of this method is that it operates without the previous knowledge of the Lipschitz constants of an operator. A strong convergence theorem for the proposed method is proved by letting the mild conditions on an operator 𝒢. Numerical experiments have been studied in order to validate the numerical performance of the proposed method and to compare it with existing methods.

  • The aim of the current work is to investigate the numerical study of a nonlinear Volterra-Fredholm integro-differential equation with initial conditions. Our approximation techniques modified adomian decomposition method (MADM) and variational iteration method (VIM) are based on the product integration methods in conjunction with iterative schemes. The convergence of the proposed methods have been proved. We conclude the paper with numerical examples to illustrate the effectiveness of our methods.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new iteration method based on the hybrid method in mathematical programming and the descent-like method for finding a common element of the solution set for a variational inequality and the set of common fixed points of a nonexpansive semigroup in Hilbert spaces. We obtain a strong convergence for the sequence generated by our method in Hilbert spaces. The result in this paper modifies and improves some well-known results in the literature for a more general problem.

  • The eigenvalue problems arise in the analysis of stability of traveling waves or rest state solutions are currently dealt with, using the Evans function method. In the literature, it had been shown that, use of this method is not straightforward even in very simple examples. Here an extended "variational" method to solve the eigenvalue problem for the higher order dierential equations is suggested. The extended method is matched to the well known variational iteration method. The criteria for validity of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues obtained is presented. Attention is focused to find eigenvalue and eigenfunction solutions of the Kuramoto-Slivashinsky and (K[p,q]) equation.

  • In this paper, we have applied a new class of approximate analytical methods called Variational Approach (VA) for high nonlinear vibration equations. Three examples have been introduced and discussed. The effects of important parameters on the response of the problems have been considered. Runge-Kutta's algorithm has been used to prepare numerical solutions. The results of variational approach are compared with energy balance method and numerical and exact solutions. It has been established that the method is an easy mathematical tool for solving conservative nonlinear problems. The method doesn't need small perturbation and with only one iteration achieve us to a high accurate solution.

  • In this paper we consider three different cases and we apply Variational Approach (VA) to solve the non-natural vibrations and oscillations. The method variational approach does not demand small perturbation and with only one iteration can lead to high accurate solution of the problem. Some patterns are presented for these three different cease to show the accuracy and effectiveness of the method. The results are compared with numerical solution using Runge-kutta's algorithm and another approximate method using energy balance method. It has been established that the variational approach can be an effective mathematical tool for solving conservative nonlinear dynamical equations.

  • A meshfree multi-scale method has been presented for efficient analysis of elasto-plastic problems. From the variational principle, problem is decomposed into a fine scale and a coarse scale problem. In the analysis only the plastic region is discretized using fine scale. Each scale variable is approximated using meshfree method. Adaptivity can easily and nicely be implemented in meshree method. As a method of increasing resolution, partition of unity based extrinsic enrichment is used. Each scale problem is solved iteratively. Iteration procedure is indispensable for the elasto-plastic deformation analysis. Therefore this kind of solution procedure is adequate to that problem. The proposed method is applied to Prandtl's punch test and shear band problem. The results are compared with those of other methods and the validity of the proposed method is demonstrated.

  • In this paper, nonlinear vibration and post-buckling analysis of beams made of functionally graded materials (FGMs) resting on nonlinear elastic foundation subjected to thermo-mechanical loading are studied. The thermo-mechanical material properties of the beams are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents, and to be temperature-dependent. The assumption of a small strain, moderate deformation is used. Based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and von-Karman geometric nonlinearity, the integral partial differential equation of motion is derived. Then this PDE problem which has quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is simplified into an ODE problem by using the Galerkin method. Finally, the governing equation is solved analytically using the variational iteration method (VIM). Some new results for the nonlinear natural frequencies and buckling load of the FG beams such as the influences of thermal effect, the effect of vibration amplitude, elastic coefficients of foundation, axial force, end supports and material inhomogenity are presented for future references. Results show that the thermal loading has a significant effect on the vibration and post-buckling response of FG beams.
