  • The main purpose of this paper is to present a simulation model for assessing the impacts of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) on the distribution network and perform a simulation analysis of voltage profiles along the wind turbine installed feeder using the presented model. The modeled wind energy conversion system consists of a fixed pitch wind turbine, a synchronous generator, a rectifier and a voltage source inverter (VSI). Detailed study on the voltage impacts of a variable speed wind turbine is conducted in terms of steady state and dynamic behaviors. Various capacities and different modes of variable speed wind turbines are simulated and investigated. Case studies demonstrate how feeder voltages are influenced by capacity and control modes of wind turbines and changes in wind speed under different network conditions. Modeling and simulation analysis is based on PSCAD/EMTDC a software package.

  • The present seismic analysis of Road-Bridge Design Standard is on a basis of load-based analysis which lets structures have the strength over load. In this study, the capacity spectrum method, a kind of displacement based method, which is evaluated by displacement of structure, is presented as an alternative to the analysis method based on load. Seismic capacity is performed about the existing reinforced concrete pier which has already secured seismic design by capacity spectrum method. As a result. capacity spectrum method could realistically evaluate the non-elastic behavior of structures easily and quickly and the displacement of structures for variable ground motion level. And it could efficiently apply to an evaluation of seismic capacity about the existing structure and a verification of design for capacity target of the new structure.

  • The article investigates the impact mechanism of absorption capacity (potential absorptive capacity - PAC and realized absorptive capacity - RAC) on the innovation efficiency of enterprises through the intermediate variable of dual innovation (exploratory innovation- INOR and exploitative innovation- INOI), based on the actual situation of Vietnam's small and medium enterprises (SMEs). A survey of Vietnam's SMEs was conducted from August 2020 to April 2021. The data was collected through interviews and questionnaires, and 146 valid questionnaires were received. The following results were acquired using SPSS 20.0 software to do correlation and regression analysis of data results.: The results show that the absorptive capacity of enterprises has a positive impact on innovation performance and dual innovation acts as a mediator in how absorptive capacity affects innovation performance. This study deepens the understanding of how absorptive capacity affects innovation performance and provides important new evidence for developing absorptive capacity and dual innovation in both theories and practice in Vietnam's SMEs. The study also proposes several solutions and recommendations to help Vietnam's small and medium enterprises improve their innovation capacity, competitiveness, and performance.

  • This paper describes an experimental study on the seismic performance of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) T-shaped columns. The lateral loads were applied along the web of the column with different loading histories, such as monotonic loading, mixed loading of variable amplitude cyclic loading and monotonic loading, constant amplitude cyclic loading and variable amplitude cyclic loading. The failure modes, load-displacement curves, characteristic loads and displacements, ductility, strength and stiffness degradations and energy dissipation capacity of the column were analyzed. The effects of loading history on the seismic performance were focused on. The test results show that the specimens behaved differently in the aspects of the failure mode subject to different loading history, although all the failure modes can be summarized as flexural failure. The hysteretic loops of specimens are plump, and minimum values of the failure drift angles and ductility coefficients are 1/24 and 4.64, respectively, which reflect good seismic performance of SRC T-shaped column. With the increasing numbers of loading cycles, the column reveals lower bearing capacity and ductility. The strength and stiffness of the column with variable amplitude cyclic loading degrades more rapidly than that with constant amplitude cyclic loading, and the total cumulative dissipated energy of the former is less.

  • To identify the factors influencing the charges per case of acute appendicitis and normal spontaneous vaginal delivery (NSVD), the personal data-base files and hospital-characteristics-reporting data files of Korea Medical Insurance Corporation were analyzed. One hundred and twenty-nine institutions were selected. The results of this study were as follows 1. The differences of charges per case with respect to hospital ownership, location, and equipment levels were statistically significant. 2. The results of multiple regression analysis revealed that bed capacity was the most significant variable in both diseases. 3. Ownership was significant variable in acute appendicitis. In NSVD, ownership and hospital equipment level were statistically significant. In conclusion, bed capacity was statistically the most significant variable in the analysis of charages per case. And we thought that the results of this study would influence the policy of the hospital bed supply.

  • Performance of a water-to-water multi-type heat pump system using R22 has been experimentally investigated. Total refrigerant flow rate was adjusted with a variable speed compressor and the refrigerant flow rate for two indoor units were controlled by electronic expansion valves. Evaporator outlet pressure of refrigerant and indoor unit outlet temperatures of secondary fluid were selected as controlled variables. Experiments were carried out for both cooling and heating modes using PID control method. Results show that the multi-type heat pump system can be adequately controlled by keeping control gains at certain levels for various operating conditions.

  • In this paper, we propose an effective cut generation method based on the Chvatal-Gomory procedure for a variable-capacity (0,1)-Knapsack problem, which is the same problem as the ordinary binary knapsack problem except that a binary capacity variable is newly introduced. We first derive a class of valid inequalities for the problem using Chvatal-Gomory procedure, then analyze the associated separation problem. Based on the results, we show that there exists a pseudopolynomial time algorithm to solve the separation problem. Preliminary computational results are presented which show the effectiveness of the proposed cut generation method.

  • This paper presents a method for reliability evaluation of a telecommunication network with variable link-capacities when the simple paths of the network are known. The LP-EM, suggested by Lee and Park (2001), identifies a composite path as a subnetwork and adds only a minimal set of links at each step which gives maximal increase on the maximum capacity flow of the subnetwork. Thereby the LP-EM reduces the possible occurrence of redundant composite paths significantly over other existing methods. Based on the LP-EM, our method further reduces the possible redundancy by identifying such simple paths that could give no increase of maximum capacity flow on the current subnetwork and excluding those simple paths from consideration in the process of constructing composite paths.

  • CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) is one of the most promising candidates for the future automobile transmission because of its continuously variable gear ratio and reduced shift shock. It is also possible to operate the power source at its high efficiency region with CVT. The CVT system consists of thrust plate, driving pulley, belt, driven pulley, and preload spring of output shaft. In this paper, the dynamic modeling of a CVT system is completed to obtain the static performances of CVT system. A simulator is implemented on Matlab(Simulink), which can analyse the static performances of a CVT system. The methods for improving the total efficiency of a motorcycle system are also proposed based on the simulation results. In this study we increase the capacity factor of CVT up to the three times of default specification.

  • In this paper, we consider the H$\infty$ tracking control of linear system with a limited actuator capacity. The considered reference is a general time-varying one with bounded magnitude and rate. By adopting a similarity transform and a new sto variable, we convert the original system equation to new one which has a tracking error as a part of the new state variable. First, we obtain a result on the low-gained H$\infty$ tracking control which never permits the actuator saturation. Next, we give a result on scheduled H$\infty$ tracking control which uses the actuator capacity more effectively. All results are in the form of linear matrix inequalities(LMI) which can be easily checked their feasibility. Finally, we give a numerical example to show the validity and usefulness of our results.
