  • In the materialistic societies, individuals get money return according to the importance of their roles. But unlike wage workers who are engaged in market production , housewives engaged in home production do not get that return. It is because the result of home production is not transacted in the market and the price is not given to it, so the value of home production is not estimated. Hence this study trcognizes again the value of home production, suggests the estimation methods of it in input and output based on home production systems and attempts to actualize those methods socially. This home production develops the human attributes of family members to act as a member of a society and potentially contributes to home income and Gross National Products, so it has social and economic value. In spite of that significance, the value of home production is not estimated, so its nor recognized and housewives engaged in home production are not acknowledged their ability. Hence based on home production systems form input to output, this study suggested opportunity cost method and market cost method in input, method by saving money expenditure, hybrid method and method by comparing with market in output.

  • The margin level in the futures market platys an important role in balancing the default probability with the investor's opportunity cost. In this paper, we investigate whether the movement of KOSPI200 futures daily prices can be modeled with the extreme value theory. Based on this investigation, we examine the validity of the margin level set by the extreme value theory. Moreover, we propose an expected profit-maximization model for securities companies. In this model, the extreme value theory is used for cost estimation, and a regression analysis is used for revenue calculation. Computational results are presented to compare the extreme value distribution with the empirical distribution of margin violation in KOSPI200 and to examine the suitability of the expected profit-maximization model.

  • A construction process consists of value adding activities and non-value adding activities, necessary or unnecessary. If construction personnel can eliminate inefficient and/or unnecessary activities within the process, they may have a great opportunity to improve their construction process. The Product Process Analysis (PPA) technique, which was developed in the manufacturing industry, can be applied for identifying wastes in the construction process and ultimately improving the process itself. It provides useful tools, such as a process chart worksheet and flow diagram, for mapping the flow of construction activities with predetermined standardized symbols. These tools make people understand the flow of activities more easily, identify value adding/non-value adding activities within the process, and areas where the process can be improved. The example applications of PPA are demonstrated in the paper through the case studies implemented on the construction process of structural steel. The results of case studies indicate that PPA technique was effective at identifying and removing wastes in the steel construction process. It is also found that PPA technique is more effective for improving highly repetitive construction processes.

  • The Information System(IS) planning for construction project management must be performed through decomposing the construction management business process upon considering the information technology in a construction company. Following this background, this paper proposes a model for evaluating the expected value of IS planning for construction project management. The model is made to analyze the effectiveness and to evaluate the opportunity of IS planning for task and information, then finally to quantify the value. Lastly, this model can be used to plan IS for construction project management.

Hence the case studies of students' project presentations on the American culture in English education exemplify the reflection of American traditional values in the current American life and society. It is concluded that project-based method with regard to cultural studies in English education reveals very positive learning effects by driving students' interests and active participation through the student-centered, creative, and cooperative project presentations.

  • The TFT-LCD industry has shown dramatic growth by making technological advances and satisfying consumer needs. It now stands at the heart of the display industry. However, the TFT-LCD market is maturing and is unlikely to sustain the fast pace of growth in years to come. There has been an oversupply in the LCD sector entering 2008 due to capacity expansion aimed at fueling growth coupled with softening demand amid the global economic slowdown and recent financial turmoil. The LCD industry has successfully coped with oversupply on several occasions. Each time, LCD makers faced up to the challenge and responded with a pioneering spirit. They continued to grow by turning crisis into opportunity. LG Display aims to create new markets by developing products based on innovative technology and providing more attractive products through a value-added product planning that incorporates consumer needs. Through a continuous cost innovation targeted at stimulating demand by making products more economical to consumers, we will be at the forefront of overcoming the current oversupply and sustaining robust growth for the TFT-LCD industry. Depending on our management of the situation, the current oversupply could prove to be an opportunity to create even bigger markets for the future.

  • The purposes of this study were to explore the rural women's labor by measuring labor value economically. To achieve the purpose, this study applied four methods : replacement cost method individual function, replacement cost method generalist, opportunity cost method and shadow wage method. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Time used for agricultural work and household work by with women were 5.3 hours and 3.8 hours each. 2) According to the methods used, the amounts of valuing rural women's labor were varied and ranged from 23,000 won to 43,000 won per day. This study might help recognize the degree of rural women's labor contribution to the household income of farm households and improve the socio-economic status of rural women through showing the productivity of the rural women's labor.

  • This paper studied the transition of changes in social status of the film since 1980s' Korea. After accepting the changes in social status of the film as the legitimation process of recognition for social and cultural value, this study investigated those influencing factors. For the purpose, opportunity structure in social movement theory was engaged as a theoretical background. The structured opportunity, which was considered as external variables of the film world, was divided into chance and risk factors. In this paper, the opportunity factors, affecting the legitimation process of film, included the emergence of popular culture movement. The risk factors, being considered as the violation of American filmdom and the consequential response of strategies were also researched. Those factors were responsible not only for external variables of filmdom, but also for compensators and competitors in the legitimation process of the film. Since 1980s', cultural industrial growth and democratization generation's entry into the film world affected the legitimation of the film as significant cultural product. Besides, the threat of American film industry changed rationality and competitive landscape of Korean film world.
