  • Ga doped ZnO (GZO)/Cu bi-layer films were deposited with RF and DC magnetron sputtering on glass substrate and then the effect of post deposition annealing temperature on the structural, optical and electrical properties of the films was investigated. The post deposition annealing process was conducted for 30 minutes in gas pressure of $1{\times}10^{-3}$ Torr and the annealing temperatures were 150 and $300^{\circ}C$. With increasing annealing temperature, GZO/Cu films showed an increment in the prefer orientation of ZnO (002) diffraction peak in the XRD pattern and the optical transmittance in a visible wave region was also increased, while the electrical sheet resistance was decreased. The GZO/Cu films annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ showed the highest optical transmittance of 70% and also showed the lowest electrical resistance of $85\;{\Omega}/{\Box}$ in this study.

  • A new type of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) based on a porous type Ti electrode without using a transparent conductive oxide (TCO) layer is fabricated for low-cost high-efficient solar cell application. The TCO-free DSC is composed of a glass substrate/dye-sensitized $TiO_2$ nanoparticle/porous Ti layer/electrolyte/Pt sputtered counter electrode. The porous Ti electrode (~350 nm thickness) with high conductivity can collect electrons from the $TiO_2$ layer and allows the ionic diffusion of $I^-/I_3{^-}$ through the hole. The vacuum annealing treatment is important with respect to the interfacial necking between the metal Ti and porous $TiO_2$ layer. The efficiency of the prepared TCO-free DSC sample is about 3.5% (ff: 0.48, $V_{oc}$: 0.64V, $J_{sc}$: 11.14 mA/$cm^2$).

  • Undoped ZnO films were prepared on Soda lime glass using pyrosol deposition method starting from the solutions composed of $ZnO(CH_3COO){_2}\;2H_2O-H_2O-CH_3OH$. Surface morphology revealed ZnO films were polycrystalline above $400^{\circ}C$ substrate temperature in $H_2O$ only solvent $H_2O-CH_3OH$ solvent revealed more good result than $H_2O$ only solvent. the lowest resistivity of as-deposit ZnO films was 4 ${\Omega}$-Cm and transmittance at 550nm was 85%. post-annealing of as-deposited films in a vacuum leads to s reduction in resistivity without affecting the optical transmittance.

  • Physically implanted surface islands of Nano Carbon Tube (NCT) and ${\alpha}-F_2O_3$ particles have been produced on Al-doped ZnO (AZO)/glass surfaces by simple and direct ND:YAG laser beam irradiation. Sheet resistance of the reconstructed surface increased by about 3.6% of over AZO. Minimal surface damage can be repaired by ND:YAG laser beam irradiation in conjunction with proper impurities. Implanted islands of NCT, which are considered to be a good conductive impurity, on AZO increased the sheet resistance by about 1.8%, while implanted islands of ${\alpha}-F_2O_3$, an insulating impurity, on AZO increased sheet resistance by about 129% compared with a laser beam treated AZO. This study provides insight regarding surface implantations of nanowires and micro-circuits, doping effects for semiconductors and optical devices, surface area and impurity effects for catalysis.

  • ZTO/GZO double layered films were prepared on unheated non-alkali glass substrates. ZTO films were deposited by RF/DC hybrid magnetron co-sputtering using ZnO (RF) target and $SnO_2$ (DC) targets, and then GZO films were deposited by DC magnetron sputtering using an GZO ($Ga_2O_3$:5.57 wt%) target. These films were post-annealed at temperature of 200, $300^{\circ}C$ in air and vacuum ambient for 30 min. In the case of post-annealing in air, ZTO/GZO double layer showed relatively low resistivity change, compared to GZO single layer. Furthermore, ZTO/GZO double layer revealed low WVTR, compared to GZO single layer. Therefore, it can be confirmed that ZTO film doing a role with barrier for water or oxygen diffusion.

  • We studied the critical pressure characteristics of an anode type ion beam source driven by both charge repulsion and diffusion mechanism. The critical pressure $P_{crit}$ of the diffusion type ion beam source was linearly decreased from 2.5 mTorr to 0.5 mTorr when the gas injection was varied in 3~10 sccm, while the $P_{crit}$ of the charge repulsion ion beam source was remained at 3.5 mTorr. At the gas injection of 10 sccm, the range of having normal beam shape in the charge repulsion ion beam source was about 6.4 times wider than that in the diffusion type ion beam source. An impurity of Fe 2p (KE = 776.68 eV) of 12.88 at. % was observed from the glass surface treated with the abnormal beam of the charge repulsion type ion beam source. The body temperature of the diffusion type ion beam source was observed to increase rapidly at the rate of $1.9^{\circ}C/min$ for 30 minutes and to vary slowly at the rate of $0.1^{\circ}C/min$ for 200 minutes for an abnormal beam and normal beam, respectively.

  • This paper reports on the energy absorption characteristics of a lattice-web reinforced composite sandwich cylinder (LRCSC) which is composed of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) face sheets, GFRP lattice webs, polyurethane (PU) foam and ceramsite filler. Quasi-static compression experiments on the LRCSC manufactured by a vacuum assisted resin infusion process (VARIP) were performed to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed cylinders. Compared with the cylinders without lattice webs, a maximum increase in the ultimate elastic load of the lattice-web reinforced cylinders of approximately 928% can be obtained. Moreover, due to the use of ceramsite filler, the energy absorption was increased by 662%. Several numerical simulations using ANSYS/LS-DYNA were conducted to parametrically investigate the effects of the number of longitudinal lattice webs, the number of transverse lattice webs, and the thickness of the transverse lattice web and GFRP face sheet. The effectiveness and feasibility of the numerical model were verified by a series of experimental results. The numerical results demonstrated that a larger number of thicker transverse lattice webs can significantly enhance the ultimate elastic load and initial stiffness. Moreover, the ultimate elastic load and initial stiffness were hardly affected by the number of longitudinal lattice webs.

  • Zintl compound Mg3Sb2 is a promising candidate for efficient thermoelectric material due to its small band gap energy and characteristic electron-crystal phonon-glass behavior. Furthermore, this compound enables fine tuning of carrier concentration via chemical doping for optimizing thermoelectric performance. In this study, nominal compositions of Mg3.8Sb2-xTex (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.03) are synthesized through controlled melting and subsequent vacuum hot pressing method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are carried out to investigate phase development and surface morphology during the process. It should be noted that 16 at. % of excessive Mg must be added to the system to compensate for the loss of Mg during melting process. Herein, thermoelectric properties such as Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity, and thermal conductivity are evaluated from low to high temperature regimes. The results show that Te substitution at Sb sites effectively tunes the majority carriers from holes to electrons, resulting in a transition from p to n-type. At 873 K, a peak ZT value of 0.27 is found for the specimen Mg3.8Sb1.99Te0.01, indicating an improved ZT value over the intrinsic value.

  • Magnesium-antimonide is a well-known zintl phase thermoelectric material with low band gap energy, earth-abundance and characteristic electron-crystal phonon-glass properties. The nominal composition Mg3.8-xZnxSb2 (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.02) was synthesized by controlled melting and subsequent vacuum hot pressing method. To investigate phase development and surface morphology during the process, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out. It should be noted that an additional 16 at. % Mg must be added to the system to compensate for Mg loss during the melting process. This study evaluated the thermoelectric properties of the material in terms of Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity from the low to high temperature regime. The results demonstrated that substituting Zn at Mg sites increased electrical conductivity without significantly affecting the Seebeck coefficient. The maximal dimensionless figure of merit achieved was 0.30 for x = 0.01 at 855 K which is 30% greater than the intrinsic value. Electronic flow properties were also evaluated and discussed to explain the carrier transport mechanism involved in the thermoelectric properties of this alloy system.

  • The global demand for Liquefied Natural Gas(LNG) continues to increase and is facing a big cycle. To keep pace with the increase in international demand for LNG, the demand for LNG fueled ships is also increasing. Since LNG fuel tanks are operated in a cryogenic environment, insulation technology is very important, and although there are various types of insulation applied to Type C tanks, multi-layer insulation and vacuum insulation are typically applied. Powder insulation materials are widely used for storage and transportation of cryogenic liquids in tanks with such a complex insulation structure. In this study, compression tests at room and cryogenic temperature were performed on closed perlite, glass bubble, and fumed silica, which are representative powder insulation material candidates. Finally, the applicability to the Type C fuel tank was reviewed by analyzing the experimental results of this study.
