VES-LMC(very-early strength latex modified concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because it could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. However, the bright color of VES-LMC disturb driver's sigh. A black VES-LMC, matching to asphalt concrete, was developed and applied at a filed for driver's comfort and safety. The black VES-LMC included 2% carbon black in cement weight ratio. A series of performance evaluation for black VES-LMC was done in terms of field applicability, pavement color and temperature change. The field applicability test result showed that there were no change of workability, slump and air void, and the compressive strengthen developed more than 20MPa after 4 hours of placement. The thermal stress of black VES-LMC was smaller than that of OPC and asphalt concrete, which means the stability of black VES-LMC. The performance evaluation result showed that the black VES-LMC could prevent road icing at below zero temperatures and promote thawing at melting temperature.

Most of the civil structures in Korea and abroad have many kinds of damages when they are facing over-loaded traffics, long-term serviceability, and severe environmental conditions. Repair, rehabilitation, and retrofit are important for maintaining the serviceability of structures. In recent year, VES-LMC has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck repair and rehabilitation, because the VES-LMC has a various benefits such as traffic opening after 3 hours of curing, higher durability and bond strength. In case of any structure repaired or rehabilitated with VES-LMC, those were influenced capacity of bond between the base layer of slab and VES-LMC as well as physical properties of each other materials. The capacity of bond depended on purity of interface, micro cracks, curing of VES-LMC and so like. A kind of popular concrete repair technique, High pressure water jetting equipment is extremely efficient at removing damaged concrete. Removing damaged or poor quality concrete from sensitive structures such as bridge, tunnels, multi-story car parking decks and runways, using the high pressure water jetting could remove damaged or poor quality concrete remaining healthy and sound concrete. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is that it was to evaluate effect of hydrodemolition on the bond strength of VES-LMC overlay compared with effects of other method such as breaker, untreated. Also, it was evaluated the effect of surface moisture.
Since in 1970, the length of concrete pavements(JCP, JRCP and CRCP) are growing rapidly at both of main highways and local roads. Many of them are deteriorated and old enough to be repaired or replaced. The pavement is more important than the other infrastructures and it is very difficult to go around or block the traffic during the rehabilitation. The very-early strength latex-modified concrete(VES-LMC)may offer the advantages of high-early-strength, higher flexural strength, higher bond strength, and improved durability. The VES-LMC could be used at a kind of fast track ofr early opening to the traffic after 3 hours of concrete placement. The installation of VES-LMC overlay at Jung-Boo highway was successfully done from April 28 to 29, 2005. The traffic was closed at 07:00 PM and opened to traffic at 08:30 AM. The compressive and flexural strength of VES-MC were more than 28MPa, 6.2MPa after 4 hours, respectively.

Recently, very-early strength latex-modified concrete(below ; VES-LMC) has been developed for repairing and overlaying the old concrete bridge deck. Early-age defects in high-performance concrete due to thermal and autogenous deformation shorten the life cycle of concrete structures. Thus, it is necessary to examine the behavior of early-age concrete at the stages of design and construction. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the autogenous shrinkage of VES-LMC, having an experimental variables such as retarder and water-cement ratio. The greater the retarder content in VES-LMC, the greater the expansion at early-age. This recommend the small retarder content as possible. The effect of water-cement ratio on early-age behavior is very small, because of the wrapped specimen in order to prevent water evaporation.

Very-early strength latex-modified concrete (VES-LMC) was developed with a focus on workability, strength development and long-term durability that would allow for opening a bridge to traffic only 3 hours after concrete placement, which would be useful when repairing concrete bridge deck overlays. However, even though usage of latex in VES-LMC improves the durability, it has a disadvantage that it produces lots of entrained air. Therefore, specific plan is necessary since it is weak for freezing and thawing in air-void structure. In the present study ultra-fine fly ash (UFFA) was used. Test results are follows ; Air content of VES-LMC UFFA (VES-LMC using UFFA) concrete was decreased since major pozzolan reaction was happened in one day. It was also found that total air content of concrete was decreased with pozzolan reaction since air content in 28 days was the same with one day air content. The addition of calcium hydroxide increased entrained air which is smaller than size of 200 ${\mu}m$. It was effective to improve the air-void structure of VES-LMC since spacing factor can be confirmed as smaller than size of 200 ${\mu}m$ using more than 15% of UFFA.
VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because the overlaid or repaired could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. Although the field performance of VES-LMC generally indicates that it has an excellent bonding to the substrate and shows a long term performance, little quantitative data or research results have been presented in the literature on structural studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural behavior, interfacial performance, crack propagation, and strengthen effect of RC beam overlaid or repaired by VES-LMC through the 4-point flexural loading test. Two different types of RC beam were fabricated for repair and rehabilitation types. The test result showed that the strengthen effect, in term of flexural stiffness, increases as the depth of repair or overlay increases. More than 40% of stiffness was improved when the depth of repair was up to steel position. However, there was a little difference between 80 mm and 120 mm repaired beam. This means the repair depth must be considered. The interfacial behavior data showed that the repaired or overlaid beams had a little relative displacement. This means that two materials behave comparatively acting together. However, there were two specimens which had large displacement at the interface, because of poor bond strength. This suggested that interface treatment is one of the most important jobs in composite beams.
Recently, very-early strength latex-modified concrete(below ; VES-LMC) has been developed for repairing and overlaying the old concrete bridge deck. VES-LMC provides the advantage of very-early-strength, as well as high flexural strength, bond strength, durability, resistance to corrosion, reduced water permeability and resistance to damage from freeze-thaw cycles. The compressive and flexural strength of VES-LMC are 21 MPa and 4.5 MPa at 3 hours after concrete placing, respectively. However, VES-LMC would have a relatively large shrinkage at early-age because of reduced water-cement ratio, big water self-dissipation, and rapid hydration reaction. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the early-age and restrained shrinkage of VES-LMC, having an experimental variables such as latex contents and cement types. The latex contents included 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% and 20%, and the cement types included ordinary portland cement and very-early strength cement.

Concrete structures often present volumetrical changes particularly due to thermal and moisture related shrinkages. Volumetric instability is detrimental to the performance and durability of concrete structures because structural elements are usually restrained. These restrained shrinkages develope tensile stresses which often results in cracking in combination with the low fracture resistance of concrete. Early-age defects in high-performance concrete due to thermal and autogenous deformation shorten the life cycle of concrete structures. Thus, it is necessary to examine the behavior .of early-age concrete at the stages of design and construction. The purpose of this study was to propose a shrinkage models of VES-LMC (very-early strength latex-modified concrete) at early-age considering thermal deformation and autogenous shrinkage.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the flexural, interfacial behavior, crack propagation, nonlinear behavior, effect repaired and rehabilitated with VES-LMC using RC beam with 4-point-loading test. The results were following: The test result showed that repair and rehabilitation effect increased as its depth increased, which was verified by the increase of flexural stiffness. More than 40% of stiffness was improved when the depth of repair was up to steel position. However, there was a little difference between 8cm and 12cm repaired beam. This means the repair depth must be considered. The interfacial behavior data showed that the repaired or rehabilitated beams had a little relative displacement. This means that two materials behave comparatively acting together. This suggested that interface treatment were one of the most important jobs in composite beams.
