The groundwater recharge was assessed by using both SWAT and HELP models in Bocheong-cheon watershed. The SWAT model is a comprehensive surface and subsurface model, but it lacks the physical basis for simulating a soil water percolation process. The HELP model which has a drawback in simulating subsurface lateral flow and groundwater flow component can simulate soil water percolation process by considering the unsaturated flow effect of soil layers. The SWAT model has been successfully applied for estimating groundwater recharge in a number of watersheds in Korea, while the application of HELP model has been very limited. The subsurface lateral flow parameter was proposed in order to consider the subsurface lateral flow effect in HELP model and the groundwater recharge was simulated by the modified exponential decay weighting function in HELP model. The simulation results indicate that the recharge of HELP model significantly depends on the values of lateral flow parameter. The recharge errors between SWAT and HELP are the smallest when the lateral flow parameter is about 0.6 and the recharge rates between two models are shown to be reasonably comparable for daily, monthly, and yearly time scales. The HELP model is useful for estimating groundwater recharge at watershed scale because the model structure and input parameters of HELP model are simpler than that of SWAT model. The accuracy of assessing the groundwater recharge might be improved by the concurrent application of SWAT model and HELP model.
This study proposes a modified equation to calculate the factor of safety for an infinite slope considering the saturation depth ratio as a new variable calculated from rainfall infiltration into unsaturated soil. For the proposed equation, this study introduces the concepts of the saturation depth ratio and subsurface flow depth. Analysis of the factor of safety for an infinite slope is conducted by the sequential calculation of the effective upslope contributing area, subsurface flow depth, and the saturation depth ratio based on quasi-dynamic wetness index theory. The calculation process makes it possible to understand changes in the factor of safety and the infiltration behavior of individual rainfall events. This study analyzes stability changes in an infinite slope, considering the saturation depth ratio of soil, based on the proposed equation and the results of soil column tests performed by Park et al. (2011 a). The analysis results show that changes in the factor of safety are dependent on the saturation depth ratio, which reflects the rainfall infiltration into unsaturated weathered gneiss soil. Under continuous rainfall with intensities of 20 and 50 mm/h, the time taken for the factor of safety to decrease to less than 1.3 was 2.86-5.38 hours and 1.34-2.92 hours, respectively; in the case of repeated rainfall events, the time taken was between 3.27 and 5.61 hours. The results demonstrate that it is possible to understand changes in the factor of safety for an infinite slope dependent on the saturation depth ratio.
The matric suction and volumetric water content of Jumunin standard sand with a relative density of 60% were measured using an Automated Soil-Water Characteristic Curve (SWCC) apparatus during both drying and wetting processes. The test time for the drying process was longer than that for the wetting process, because the flow of water is likely to be protected by air trapped in voids within the soils during the drying process. Based on the matric suction and volumetric water content, the SWCC was estimated using the model proposed by van Genuchten (1980). For the drying process, the unsaturated fitting parameters ${\alpha}$, n, and m were 0.399, 8.586, and 0.884, respectively; for the wetting process, the values were 0.548, 5.625, and 8.220, respectively. The hysteresis phenomenon occurred in the SWCCs, which means the SWCC of the drying process is not matched with the SWCC of the wetting process. Using these unsaturated parameters, we estimated the Suction Stress Characteristic Curve (SSCC), based on the relationship between suction stress and the effective degree of saturation. The suction stress showed a rapid decrease when the matric suction exceeds the Air Entry Value (AEV). Therefore, the effective stress of unsaturated soils is different from that of saturated soils when the matric suction exceeds the AEV. The suction stress of the drying process exceeds that of the wetting process for a given effective degree of saturation. The hysteresis phenomenon was also recognized in SSCCs. The hysteresis phenomenon of SSCCs arises from that of SWCCs, which is induced by the ink bottle effect and the contact angle effect. In the case of a sandy slope, the suction stress is positive and acts to enhance the slope stability as the water infiltrates the ground, but is negative when the suction stress exceeds the AEV. The results obtained for the wetting process should be applied in analyses of slope stability, because the process of water infiltration into ground is similar to the wetting process.
There are some reports about the influences of free fatty acids on the albumin binding of drugs. But they were concerned to the limited free fatty acids, mostly of azapropazone-warfarin bidning site bound drugs and determination of dissociation and association constants by stopped flow technique. These data were not enough to make conculsions for the general tendency of free fatty acid to albumin binding. Therefore the influence of various saturated fatty acids of $C_{10{\sim}20}$, oleic acid and linoleic acid as unsaturated fatty acids to albumin binding of warfarin and dansylsarcosine were studied by equilibrium dialysis. The concentration of free drug was determined by spectrophotometer according to the molar ratios of 0, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 between free fatty acid and albumin. There were significant increasing in the free durg concentration of warfarin and dansylsarcosine when the molar ratio for capric acid, lauric acid and palmitic acid was 4. The free warfarin concentration was increased significantly at a molar ratio of 4 between oleic acid and albumin. Therefore the albumin binding of durgs can be variated significantly by increased free fatty acid of diabetics and cause to the pharmacokinetic variation between healthy and diabetics.
The purpose of this study is to analyse existing hysteresis models and to propose a new type of model. The existing hysteresis models are classified by three types: interpolation model, scaling model and domain model, of which the domain model is based on the theoretical approach. Models which need one branch of hysteresis loop for calibration are developed based on the independent domain concept, however, they are not successful to accurately simulate the real data and Rubicon Sandy Loam and Dune Sand. There is a possibility that a new model is based on the dependent domain model considering the pore blockage effect against air entry for homogeneous porous media(modelIII-1, Mualem, 1984). Concludingly, a new type of hysteresis model is proposed by simplifying ModelIII-1 using a proper assumption.

Lipid from Scenedesmus sp. was extracted, fractionated and purified by silicic acid column chromatography. Total lipid content of extract was $21.38{\pm}1.03$ wt%, and triacylglycerol, an index lipid for biodiesel production was detected. Ten species of $C_{16}{\sim}C_{22}$ with saturated and unsaturated fatty acid were identified showing the very adequate fatty acid profiles for biodiesel production with a good flow property at low temperature. The fractions of glycolipid, neutral and phospholipid were 52.64, 28.10 and 19.26% of total lipid, respectively. The triacylglycerol of 12.63% and chlorophyll a of 49.47% was fractioned using stepwise elution of n-hexane-diethyl ether (95:5, v/v) solvent. The high content of chlorophyll was considered as a potential source of value-added co-product.

The Seokdae municipal waste landfill was filled from 1987 to 1993. A disk tension infiltrometer was used to estimate the saturated hydraulic conductivity of the upper part of landfill cover. The estimated saturated hydraulic conductivity ranges from 2.2$\times$$10^{-4}$~8.1$\times$$10^{-3}$ cm/sec. Net infiltration through the Seokdae municipal waste landfill is estimated from precipitation data, hydraulic conductivity and reported landfill profiles by using an unsaturated flow model, HYDRUS. Total infiltration rate is estimated to be 939 ㎥/day. Leachate level rise and leachate seepage are computed by adopting a simple model.

The sea dike at Gun-Jang Industry Area had been constructed recently and both inside and outside areas of the dike show harmonic behaviour. To examine stability against piping, 2 dimensional seepage analysis was executed using finite element method. To investigate the harmonic motion of water level, unsteady and unsaturated flow analysis is needed, and specially harmonic motion in the both areas from the dike should be considered, Water level recorder was used to obtain tidal harmonic data, and sieve analysis has been earried out so that the distribution of grain diameter of the dike material is clearly informed. The calculated velocity was compared with critical velocity.
Several monomeric benzilidene anhydrides (2a~d) haying n-alkyloxy groups with various n-alkyl chain lengths were prepared by Stobbe condensation of diethyl succinate with 4-(n-alkyloxy)benzaldehyde (1a,b) followed by hydrolysis by the succinates and cyclodehydration of the benzilidenated succinic acids. Configurational isomerism of the monomer was investigated by spectroscopic means. It was found that monomers (2a~d) exist in (Z,Z)-isomeric structure. Polymerization was carried out in bulk at 150~$210^{\circ}C$ range in nitrogen flow. The chemical structure and thermal properties of the polymers were characterized by spectroscopic means, TGA and DSC. Their properties highly depended on their chemical structures in accordance with a side chain length.

Aging is the progressive accumulation of changes with time associated with responsible for the ever-increasing susceptibility to disease and death which accompanies advancing age. Lipid peroxides easily produced in the membrane system by the chain reaction of free radicals which occurred from various environmental factors. The amount of lipid peroxides produced in biological system increased with aging process, and lipid peroxidation damages involved in aging process and pathological disorders. Although lipid peroxides have such deleterious effects on the organisms, there are numerous substances and mechanisms which prevent the reaction of peroxide formation and protect the subject from its toxicity. This review provides an overview of how does lipid peroxidation of unsaturated lipids take place by free radical, and what is the intervention of lipid peroxides in pathogenesis of some human diseases, and also how does food restriction influences the aging process and various pathological disorders. The major focus of this paper is to review the evidence indicating that food restriction retards the aging process, and possible mechanisms of its actions. Therefore, it discussed the effects of age and food restriction on life-span, membrane yield, lipid peroxidation, fatty acid composition and peroxidizability, cholesterol and triglyceride levels, prostaglasndin and thromboxane synthesis, which may be concerned with blood flow, membrane fluidity, homeostasis and glomerular filtration rate in living body.
