A way to enhance educational services based RFID (RFID 기반 교육서비스 고도화 방안)

  • The RFID/USN is an area which the government tries to develop as part of new grown-up energy of IT convergence system. The government has a policy which raises a world market share of the RFID/USN 14 percent by 2013, 20 percent by 2018, expands companies with more than 5 billion won in annual sales, and increases employment of 44,000 people by 2013, 120,000 people of 2018. The difficulties of new grown-up energy industry entrants are 'costs of technical development', 'lack of technical experts', and, 'worries to find market', and so on. In this paper, we propose an education program that is systematic and has senses of the spot in order to train technical experts in the field of RFID.

  • Currently the universities in Korea have faced a critical situation for university entrants deficiency, especially in the fields of science and engineering. It will be act as a big crisis for the future national competences in science and technology. Therefore Kongju National University have been providing the engineering education program for highschool students during the summer vacation since 2001 as giving a chance of engineering laboratory experiences. During last 4 years, we have investigated the highschool students attended in engineering education program by questioning and contacting. This study is performed to improve the program by investigating their activities and thinking about engineering education. As results of the study, this manuscripts will summarized the characteristics of engineering education program and improvement schemes for the future application.

  • In order to solve problems of global warming, many policies and measures has been implemented in various countries. In January 2005, the European Union Emission Trading Scheme officially started. In order to take it into action, the EU ETS stated that all members must submit the national allocation plan including the national's total allowances, allowances for installations, reserve for new entrants, etc. In the process of this decision-making, it was also stated that problems related with early action should be solved by each member state at its option. This paper is a study on necessity of compensation for early action and its limitation of its practices. With a comparative study on dealing with early action in the key nations including Germany, the Netherlands and United Kingdom, we can get insights and strategies for effective processes of dealing with early action and the direction for harmonizing data collection and allocation rules.

  • Metaverse is a combination of Meta and Universe, which refers to a world in which users or avatars engage in social, economic, and cultural activities. This study attempted to compare the four worldviews proposed by the Acceleration Studies Foundation (ASF) based on the five evaluation factors of SPICE, which are factors for promoting customer experience. 227 samples were used in the analysis, and as a result, seamlessness was the highest in augmented reality, interoperability in lifelogging, presence in the mirror world, and concurrence in virtual reality. This study is meaningful in that it presents a model design plan according to the classification of the metaverse platform and the worldview, and presents detailed strategic directions to existing metaverse platform operators or new entrants.

  • The third phase of NASA's 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge (part of a NASA's Centennial Challenges Program competition) required entrants to build a one-third-scale space exploration habitat (10 ㎡) using 3D-printing technology. This study addresses a proposed habitat (diameter: 3 m, height: 2 m) in accordance with the competition rules. The study focus is to find the most appropriate binder when KOHLS-1 was mixed for extruding and stacking as 3D printing feedstock using pellets, and to build a prototype structure as required by the competition. Unlike previous studies, this study was based around the binders and construction method, not around axis transfer velocity, flow rate, and heater temperature.

Emerging Digital Technology as a Window of Opportunity and Technological Leapfrogging: Catch-up in Digital TV by the Korean Firms

  • This paper has examined the leapfrogging thesis with the case of catch-up in digital TV by the Korean firms. Despite the disadvantages implied by the technological regime of digital TV and the risks facing early entrants in trajectory choice and initial market formation, the Korean firms had achieved a 'path-creating catch-up' in the sense they chose a different path from the Japanese forerunning firms. As they have been closely watching the technological trends and the standard setting process, there was less risk of choosing the right or wrong technological trajectory. Also, despite the lack of sufficient capability and core knowledge base, the Korean firms had some complementary asset, such as the experience of producing analogue TV, and were able to develop the prototype digital TV and the ASIC chips, given the accesses to the foreign knowledge via overseas R&D posts and acquisition of a foreign company. To secure the initial market size, the Korean targeted the US market from the beginning, and their sources for competitive advantages were the speedy setting up the production system for mass production of products at the initial stage. The initial failure of the Japanese firms and the success of the Korean firms do suggest that the period of paradigm shift, like this toward digital technology, can serve as a window of opportunity for late-comers while penalizing the forerunner.

A study on the ingredient branding strategy considering order of market entry: Moderating effect of brand origin and price information (시장진입전략을 고려한 요소브랜딩전략에 관한 연구: 브랜드원산지 및 가격정보의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • This study examined the effect of ingredient branding strategies for late entrants as one of the strategic tools to overcome first-mover advantages. Specifically, this study investigated whether brand origin information of the ingredients and price information of the ingredient branding product affect consumer evaluation. A sample of 400 university students were randomly assigned to 2 experimental studies. Results from study 1 showed that the market position of ingredient brand and brand origin information significantly influenced consumers' evaluation on the ingredient branding product. In addition, from the study 2, this study found that price information significantly moderated the effects of the order of market entry and brand origin information of the ingredients on the consumers' evaluation on the ingredient branding product. Implications for brand strategies to overcome the late-entrant disadvantages are discussed.

  • Recently, the use of SNS has been steadily increasing in the 40s and 50s in Korea. In order to increase the number of users in the global service brand, such as Instagram, facing the limit situation of new users, 40 ~ 50 new entrants are needed. However, 40 ~ 50s in Korea are not easily able to use these services because they have difficulties in these services. In this study, usability test is performed in terms of UX / UI about what is difficult for users in 40 ~ 50s to use in instagram, and what is the barriers to entry compared to domestic service The results are as follows. First, when localizing a global service, it is easy to understand, not a simple translation, and proper labeling should be considered. Second, major and frequently used functions should be considered to be intuitive to simplify the depth. Third, the design should be improved to increase the recognition rate of icons in terms of GUI. If possible, the combination of text and icons provided good results.

  • This study aims to understand regional specificity and its impact on the IT service industry in Fairfax County. Fairfax County primarily specializes in the IT service in the United States, and it has cultivated a resilient and unique industrial environment. Business-related initiatives by the federal government have resulted in the influx and expansion of IT service firms, the formation of new small firms, the abundance of skilled workers, and the growth of the IT services related with the federal procurement market, though the government policies do not explicitly intend to affect the industrial path in Fairfax County. Meanwhile, local institutions have provided various programs and services for both incumbent firms and potential entrants, and have recently focused on the accumulation and leverage of relational assets among economic actors through a variety of networking venues.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the attractiveness of the vinyl record industry and derive implications by analyzing the structure of the industry. A few previous studies pay attention to the rapidly increasing demand for vinyl records, especially from a consumer point of view, and unlike the analysis of the consumption and vinyl record industry, this study focuses on the subjects of production and distribution of vinyl records. This paper collects data through in-depth interviews with experts in the vinyl record industry and various secondary data, which is analyzed by Porter(1980/2008)'s Five Forces Model. According to the analysis, the attractiveness of the vinyl record industry is positive in terms of the appropriate competitive strength in the industry and weak bargaining power of buyers, but negative in terms of the strong bargaining power of new entrants and substitutes. The outcome of this research has significance as basic data implying that companies that are trying to enter the vinyl record industry need to make strategic decisions.
