An Analysis of Car Seat Use from 2015 to 2019 among Children Ages under 6: Using Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination (최근 5년간 6세 미만 아동 카시트 사용 분석: 국민건강영양조사 자료(2015~2019년)를 바탕으로)

  • Purpose: Traffic accidents are the major cause of death in children. Car seat usage in children is important to reduce the risk of death or injury caused by traffic accidents. This study aims to analyze the trends of car seat use among children ages under 6. Methods: This study adopted a cross-sectional study utilizing the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2015 to 2019. In total, 1,999 responses were included for the analysis. Factors associated with car seat use were age, sex, body weight, height, family type, household income, and monthly household income. Regression analysis was used to compare the car seat use before and after the revision of the Road Traffic Act (2015~2018 vs. 2019). Results: We found that car seat use was increasing by year, age, region, and household income. Car seat use was higher after fines increased in 2019. Age and body weight had negative association with car seat use, while height and household income had positive association with car seat use. Conclusion: Car seat use increased from 2015 to 2019 and is associated with different ages among children and household income. Further education and promotion that describes the safety benefits to children from car seat use are needed.

The Effect of University Students' Startup Environment and Entrepreneurship Factors on Entrepreneurial Intention (대학생의 창업환경, 기업가정신 요인이 창업의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of university students' entrepreneurial environment and entrepreneurial spirit on their entrepreneurial intentions. The results of the study are as follows. As for the correlation among entrepreneurial environmental factors affecting entrepreneurial intentions of college students, it was confirmed that educational environment, legal system and government support, and social values had static correlation coefficient values. It was predicted that the six detailed hypotheses would be valid and would have an impact, but unexpected results were also derived. First, the hypothesis that the entrepreneurial environment of college students will affect entrepreneurial intention was partially accepted. Employment environment and education environment were dismissed, legal system and government support. It was confirmed that social values had a positive (+) effect on entrepreneurial intention. Second, the hypothesis that entrepreneurship of college students will affect entrepreneurship intention was also partially accepted. Risk sensitivity was rejected, and innovation and initiative were confirmed to have a positive (+) effect.

Impacts of Immigrant Workers on Regional Economy in S. Korea (이주노동자의 유입이 지역경제에 미치는 영향)

  • Recently international movements of labour as well as those of goods and other production elements such as capitals and technology have been increased rapidly under the process of glocalization. The huge amount of immigrant workers' in-flows makes increasing influences on regional economy in South Korea. This paper examines such impacts of immigrant workers on local labor markets, productivity. and industrial composition and innovation on the basis of analysis of empirical data and review of existing literature on the subject. Despite a problem of simplification, some reasoning can be listed as follows: First of all, the inflow of immigrant workers has an effect of job displacement among domestic simple workers, with duel effects on the status of native workers; secondly, Immigrant workers give a positive effect on local productivity, but only with low level of wage and of purchasing power; thirdly, the in-flow of immigrant workers seems to prevent existing industries from transformation towards new ones and/or from automation and innovation of production facilities, while there seems no clear relationship with foreign direct investments of local firms.

Post-Fordist Economic Development and the New Urbanization Process (탈포드주의적 경제발전과 새로운 도시화)

  • The purpose of this paper is to review Post-Fordist urban economic theories that have tackled the recent changes of urban economies in large cities in the world since 1980s, so that we can conceptualise the changes of urban economies in Korean cities. In the perspective of the Post-Fordist urban economic theories, the recent changes of urban economies in the world are deeply related to the transformation of capitalist world economic system from Fordism to Post-Fordism. To see these changes which can be called as the new urbanization process in the economic aspect, we will focus especially such theories as new industrial space (district) theory based on the flexible specialization paradigm, informational city theory based on the information and communication mode paradigm, and cluster and regional innovation theory based on the institution and network paradigm. Also we will consider the social polarization process and dual city phenomena that have been observed for the most part of big cities in the world.

Dissemination and Utilization of Growing-up Skills Program (성장기술 프로그램의 보급 및 활용에 관한 연구)

  • While many social work studies has focused on the development of practice intervention and demonstration of the efficacy, little attention has been given to the way how the results can be disseminated and utilized in practice area. But attempts to bridge the research-practice gap empathize importance of dissemination and utilization including knowledge utilization, innovation diffusion, information dissemination, program replication, and technology transfer etc. In this recognition, this study that focused on the process after development of program tried to search and analyze the real disseminating process and utilization state with applying Growing-up Skills Program(GUSP) developed and disseminated by this researcher. For the purpose, theories and models for program diffusion were reviewed, and dissemination & utilization of GUSP was analyzed on the 'Herie & Martin's model' with retrospective perspectives. Through this tracer study, these were confirmed or founded as problems of GUSP in disseminating process : lack of specific strategy for the dissemination ; unplanned coping due to little preparation ; and unclear and insufficient understanding of the target system in the beginning stage of dissemination. And followings are suggested for the improvement of social work program dissemination & utilization in the field: to conduct diffusion process on the basis of a proper model; to consider integrative relationship between D&D and dissemination & utilization ; to endeavor for collecting feed back from the field ; and to reinforce social work education and study related to innovation diffusion. These results showed importance of dissemination & utilization in social work and utility of GUSP despite of several limitations. More concerns of dissemination & utilization are needed for the integration of research and practice in Korean social work.

ESG Management Strategy and Performance Management Plan Suitable for Social Welfare Institutions : Centered on Cheonan City Social Welfare Foundation (사회복지기관에 적합한 ESG경영 전략도출 및 성과관리방안 : 천안시사회복지재단을 중심으로)

  • Since municipal welfare institutions operate for different purposes from general companies or public enterprises, ESG practice items and model construction should be conducted through various and comprehensive social welfare studies. Since there are not many studies available in domestic welfare institutions yet and there are no suitable ESG management utilization indicators, the Cheonan Welfare Foundation's strategy and management strategy system were established to spread the model to other welfare institutions and become a leading foundation through education and training. The foundation and front-line welfare institutions selected issues identification and key issues through the foundation's empirical analysis and criticality analysis, focusing on understanding ESG management and ways to establish a practice model that positively affects institutional image and business performance. Based on this, the promotion system was examined by establishing a performance management plan after deriving appropriate strategies and establishing a strategic system for social welfare institutions. Environmental and social responsibility, transparent management, safety management system establishment, emergency and prevention, user (customer) satisfaction system establishment, anti-corruption prevention and integrity ethics monitoring and evaluation, responsible supply chains, and community contribution programs. This study attempted to specifically present efforts to settle ESG management through the consideration of the Cheonan Welfare Foundation. Therefore, it is considered to be useful data for developing ESG management by referring to the systematic development process of the Cheonan City Restoration Foundation to develop ESG measurement indicators.

Development of Performance Indicators Based on Balanced Score Card for School Food Service Facilities (균형성과표(BSC)개념을 적응한 학교급식 운영성과 측정지표 개발)

  • This study raised the necessity of developing performance indicators for measuring the management efficiency and effectiveness of school food service, and as a means of helping its implementation, a balanced score card (BSC) approach developed by Norton and Kaplan was adopted. This study established BSC in seven phases through literature: Phase 1 Defining a school food service and the scope of working activities, Phase 2 Establishing the vision of a school food service, Phase 3 Setting strategic goals, Phase 4 Identifying critical success factors (CSFs), Phase 5 Developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Phase 6 Extracting cause and effect relationship, and Phase 7 Completing a preliminary BSC. The preliminary BSC was fumed into a survey, which was administered to food service related people working at the Office of Education and School Food Service including 16 offices,209 dietitians, 48 school administrators both from self-operated and contract-managed, and 9 experts in areas related to school food service. They were asked questions about strategies from 4 different perspectives,12 CSFs, 39 KPls, and the cause and effect relationships among them. As a result, among the CSFs based on 4 different perspectives, all factors other than ' zero sum on profit/loss ' from the financial perspective turned out to be valid. In terms of KPIs, manufacturing cost percentages, casualty loss count/reduction rates, school foodervice participation rates, and sales goal achievement rates were found to be valid from the financial perspective, while student satisfaction index, faculty satisfaction index, leftover ratio, nutrition educational performance count, index of evaluating nutrition education, customer claim count/reduction rate, handling customer claim count/reduction rate, and parent satisfaction index were found to be valid from the customers' perspective. Besides, nutritional requirement sufficient ratio, nutritional management score, food poisoning outbreak count, employee safety accident count, sanitary inspection assessment index, meals per labor hour (productivity index), computerization ratio, operational management index, and purchase management assessment index were also found to be valid from the perspective of internal business processes. From the perspective of innovation and learning, employee turnover ratio/rate of absenteeism, annual education and training count, employee satisfaction index, human resource management assessment index, annual menu-related customer feedback, food service information index for employees and parents/schools were also found to be valid. The significance of this study is to present indices for measuring overall performance of school lunch food service operations without putting any limitation on types of school food service management, and to help correctly assess the contribution of the current types of school food service management to schools and students. The Study on the Utilization of TPM program Affecting the Productivity Increase (TPM 프로그램의 활동요인이 경영성과에 미치는 효과)

  • TPM program, which is a methodology for improving the management results through the management innovation activity of a company, has been widely introduced in the field of a service industry as well as a manufacturing industry. The main purpose of this study is to present the theoretical model by the relationship between active factors of TPM program and management results for a productivity increase, and to investigate the direct and indirect effects on the management of a company through a parametric study. A questionnaire survey of 300 companies that presently utilize the TPM program has been conducted. In order to verify the validity and the reliability of the contents of the questionnaire survey, a confirmatory factor analysis has been done. A frequency analysis has also been performed to examine the characteristics of the respondent. The factor analysis and the frequency analysis were done by using SAS Ver. 8.2, and the verification of a research model was done by using LISREL Ver. 8.52. The active factors of TPM in the research model consist of 'an independent preservation', 'an individual improvement', 'a planned reservation' and 'an education & training'. Among those active factors, the individual improvement and the education & training significantly influence on the facility efficiency and the organization and personnel management. The organization and personnel management has a greater influence on the management results. Therefore, the education and training for employes is most important for the improvement of the management results through TPM program, and the individual improvement activity is also important.

A Perspective of the Decreased Science Lessons in the Seventh Curriculum (제7차 교육과정에 나타난 과학과 수업시수 축소의 관점)

  • It has been an important task that the decreased quantities of science lessons must blend with the 7th science curriculum. This study analysed the 6th and 7th science curriculum contents, and found the perspective and the problems in relation to the decreased lessons in the 7th science curriculum. The results found in the analysis of the science content system in the curriculum are as follows: first, the new science themes in the 7th content system were those appeared in the sub-themes in the 6th curriculum, so substantially scientific concepts didn't increase in the 7th. Second, the number of the terms which restricts the conceptual and contextual region of the major science themes considerably increased in the 7th curriculum. Third, Surface Lesson Quantities(SLQ), which were defined as the counted lesson number considering the quantities of science themes and the lesson decreasing rate 30% of the whole school curriculum, were inferred as 38.5% of the 6th lesson quantities. And the results found in the analysis of the sub-themes inferred from the sentences describing the science themes in each grade are as follows: Essential Lesson Quantities (ELQ), which were defined based on the sub-themes, were more than SLQ in almost themes. But, in case of the themes, 'weather' and 'ground', SLQ were much more than ELQ. The results of this study shows that it will not easy to solve the task, the decreasing lessons and phenomena-centered approach in constructing the science teaching content according to the 7th science curriculum.

Monitoring of Lake area Change and Drought using Landsat Images and the Artificial Neural Network Method in Lake Soyang, Chuncheon, Korea (Landsat 영상 및 인공 신경망 기법을 활용한 춘천 소양호 면적 및 가뭄 모니터링)

  • Drought is an environmental disaster typically defined as an unusual deficiency of water supply over an extended period. Satellite remote sensing provides an alternative approach to monitoring drought over large areas. In this study, we monitored drought patterns over about 30 years (1985-2015), using satellite imagery of Lake Soyang, Gangwondo, South Korea. Landsat images were classified using ISODATA, maximum likelihood analysis, and an artificial neural network to derive the lake area. In addition, the relationship between areas of Lake Soyang and the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was analyzed. The results showed that the artificial neural network was a better method for determining the area of the lake. Based on the relationship between the SPI value and changes in area, the R2 value was 0.52. This means that the area of the lake varied depending on SPI value. This study was able to detect and monitor drought conditions in the Lake Soyang area. The results of this study are used in the development of a regional drought monitoring program.
