Old post burn contractures on feet still remain challenging problem for reconstructive surgeon. A 43-year-old male visited Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital with the complain of foot deformity and difficulties in shoe fitting. His right 4th and 5th toes were inverted at dorsal foot. We released the contracture of 4, 5th metatarsophalangeal joint and lengthened extensor tendon by Z-plasty, and covered the resultant defect with the anterolateral thigh flap. The flap was successful and the deformity was corrected. As there have been few reports on reconstruction of foot dorsum, especially on post burn extension contractures in the toes, we report a rare case of contracture release and coverage by free flap.

Resveratrol analogs were newly synthesized and evaluated for cytotoxicity in cultured human lung and colon cancer cells. 3,5,4-Trimethoxy-trans-stilbene and 3,5,2',4'-tetramethoxy-trans-stilbene were found to be more potent rather than resveratrol. 3,4,5-Trimethoxy-4'-bromo-cis-stilbene was the most active among the test compounds.

Stereoselective syntheses of ($\pm$)-epibatidine analogues 2, which contain the 8-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring system, were achieved by using palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction from 4 and the analgesic activity was tested by Mouse writhing antinociceptive assay.

Activity-guided fractionation of a hexane-soluble extract of the roots of Lithospermum erythrorhizon, using a mouse brain monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibition assay, led to the isolation of two known naphthoquinones, acetylshikonin and shikonin, and a furylhydroquinone, shikonofuran E. These compounds were shown to inhibit MAO with $IC_{50}$ values of 10.0, 13.3, and $59.1 {\mu}M$, respectively. Although no specificity for MAO-A and MAO-B was shown by acetylshikonin and shikonin, a Lineweaver-Burk plot analysis indicated that the inhibition was competitive for both MAO-A and MAO-B activity.

Silybin has a potent antibacterial activity, more potent than silymarin II, against gram-positive bacteria without hemolytic activity, whereas it has no antimicrobial activity against gram-negative bacteria or fungi. The mode of action of silybin against the gram-positive bacterial cell was examined by investigating the change in plasma membrane dynamics of bacterial cells using 1 ,6-diphenyl-1,3,5-hextriene (DPH) as a membrane probe and by assessing the inhibition of macromolecular synthesis using radiolabeled incorporation assay. The results showed that silybin inhibited RNA and protein synthesis on gram-positive bacteria.

Effects of brazilin on the blood viscosity and erythrocyte deformability were investigated in alloxan induced diabetic rats. By the treatment to alloxan induced diabetic rats, enhancement of erythrocyte deformability was observed. In the in vitro study on the erythrocyte deformability, brazilin showed statistically significant improving effects on the erythrocyte deformability. At the concentrations of $10^3$ M of brazilin, erythrocyte deformability was compared with those of hematoxylin, pentoxifyline and prednisolone.

남산공원은 1954년 대공원으로 지정되어 현재는 1개의 도시자연공원구역과 4개의 근린공원으로 운영되고 있는 넓은 면적의 오래된 도시공원이다. 공원으로서 역사·문화적 가치가 높음에도 불구하고 그동안 남산공원은 주로 '산' 이나 '도성'이라는 틀 속에서 논의되었다. 본 연구는 공원사(公園史) 관점에서 남산공원 연구를 심화하기 위해 서울기록원에서 소장하고 있는 서울시의 공공기록에 주목하여 살펴보았다. 연구는 서울기록원 소장 남산공원 관련 기록물을 모두 열람하여 공원 사료로 분석할 기록을 1,359건으로 정리하고, 기록별 주요 내용을 검토하였다. 보다 구체적인 연구 내용으로는 첫째, 기록 생산연대, 기록 유형, 공개 유형을 통해 기록물의 개괄적인 특성을 파악하였다. 둘째, 기록물에서 도출한 조직/단체, 인물, 공간/지역, 주제, 업무기능의 주요어를 분석하였다. 셋째, 주요 공간에 대한 기록물을 분석하여 공공기록이 담고 있는 공원에 관한 내용과 특징을 자세히 고찰하였다. 연구 결과, 남산공원 공공기록을 통해 그동안 알려지지 않았던 공원 도면, 사진, 식물 현황과 목록, 운영관리상의 주요 논의 및 결정 사항 등과 같은 중요한 정보를 확인하였다. 이와 함께 공공기록이 공원의 역사 전체에 대한 기록을 담고 있지는 않지만, 공원의 역사적 변천 과정에서 중요한 시점의 기록을 담고 있기에 공원사 연구에 기여할 수 있는 부분이 크다고 판단하였다. 따라서 공원별로 기록을 해석하고 서술하는 연구가 지속하여야 할 것으로 보았다. 더 나아가 공원의 공공기록이 불완전성이란 한계가 있는 만큼, 이를 보완하기 위해 향후 다른 기록으로의 확장과 시민, 설계가, 연구자, 관련 기관 등과의 네트워크도 필요하다는 점을 제언하였다.
