The questionnaires were administered to 133 high school girl students in Pusan. To find out attitudes of Korean traditional style school uniform and their clothing behaviour, PC model, mineigen and Varimax Rotation of factor analysis were adopted. The results have shown that each four factors are identified in Korean traditional style school uniform's satisfaction and their clothing behaviour. Multiple Regression analysis has been used to investigate the relationship between these factors of attitudes and satisfaction toward Korean traditional style oriented school uniform. As a result, the relationship between factors of their school uniform behaviour and satisfaction of their school uniform has revealed. • By means of statistical analysis and module concept, this paper investigated the current situation of high school girl's uniform and put forward its improved design and database establishment. Combined with the survey data, the future design direction and trend of the high school girls' uniform were proposed. By using modular design concept, the uniform is divided into five modules, and a style database has been built. Meanwhile, the parametric pattern database has been completed by using garment CAD system, based on the style database above, which has 42,336 possibilities to assemble a pair of school uniform. Combining with digital sewing techniques and by using computerized embroidery machine, the personalized design of high school girl's summer uniform has been realized. And two simulated case have been given for examples to prove its feasibility. The idea of modular design and parametric design method proposed in this study offer references for establishing the modular design database and parametric pattern database for other types of school uniform and are of relatively high practical and theoretical value.

A survey was administered to 128 male high school students. To find our factors of their attitudes and their images regarding wearing school uniforms, Varimax rotated factor analysis was adopted. The results showed that each few factors were identified in their wearing attitudes and images. Multiple regression analysis was to investigate the relationship between these factors and the satisfaction with their school uniform. As a result of this, if their satisfaction becomes greater, they tend to recognize the distinctive design of their school uniform and wear their school uniform on various occasions. In addition, the more they become satisfied with their school uniform, the more the students are comfortable with the uniform and recognize it as a symbol of status as well. The relationship between the factors of their wearing attitudes and satisfaction with their school uniform shows that of their satisfaction becomes greater, they recognize the school uniform as good looking, comfortable and as an intelligent image. The analysis of their attitudes and images indicates that the factor of a good looking images is correlated with all factors of their attitudes. Therefore the attitudes of high school boys toward wearing a school uniform have been changed and revealed to be different from previous research results.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine introduction and establishment of the police uniform during Japan's early Meiji period, in order to get deeper understanding of the introduction of the modern uniform. The research method included a literature review of laws related to police uniform, which were collected and analyzed. The result shows that the uniform stipulated by Keisi-cho Uniform regulation in 1874 included characteristics of Western uniforms that show the rank of the officers using emblems, such as different cap badges and uniform stripes, while maintaining the same form. Later, the modern uniform system came into form with the addition of a national symbol, building system of formal wear, separating uniforms for different classes, and adding additional uniforms. This illustrates the process of introducing and establishing western-style uniform in the East and can serve as a reference for similar studies.

  • The Taekwondo uniform has remained consistent since it was officially designed in a V-neck form in 1976. Taekwondo is a martial art that emphasizes social etiquette; therefore, it is necessary to dress in a uniform that reflects Korean traditions and ancient oriental philosophy. However, the current official uniform has limitations in endowing traditionality and many usability problems. Thus, recognizing the problems raised with the uniform, the Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters) developed a new style official uniform in 2011. This study is to endow traditional meaning to a new style uniform and proposes some design modifications that can convey a more traditional adequacy. The development of the new official uniform began with a specific plan for change from the existing uniform, this study as subsequent work is significant in that its endowment of symbolism and modification proposal is for the actual execution and global dissemination of traditional Taekwondo culture. The results of this study are as follows. First, we can endow Korea's traditional historicity and symbolism to the new uniform in form and colors. All contents of the design (in which the front side is open, the top is adjusted rightward, the rear length is shorter than the front length, comfort provided by side vents, dual collars for children's uniforms, and a belt) are adapted from the Korean traditional costume. Consequently, historicity can be endowed to the uniform. It is also confirmed that the traditional oriental philosophy including heaven and earth (天地), Yin-Yang (陰陽), and Five Elements (五行) can be endowed in the use of colors. Second, in order to project deeper historicity and symbolism to the form of the new uniform, this study proposes design modifications based on the selection as an item of Simui (深衣), a type of traditional clothing that contains a high symbolism similar to the Taekwondo uniform. It proposes giving shape to the practice of manners, the righteous life, and the straightforward mind by modifying the design of the uniform in the fish belly part of the sleeves, collars, back stitches, and side seams.

  • This survey intends to understand the opinion and status on preschool students' uniform wearing for the purpose of new style development. The results from this study will serve as an activator of related industry. The merit of uniform wearing in these students was recognized primarily as: (1) students can have pride in the schools they attend; (2) they need not worry about clothes to wear every morning. The disadvantage of uniform wearing derives from: (1) students' personality is hardly expressed by uniforms; (2) difficulty in uniform selection suitable for varying weather conditions. This disadvantage felt by their parents suggests the lack of personality expression and appropriate body temperature control. The most prevalent opinion for preference and future improvement points was the consideration of physical activity in children. This indicates that they prefer uniforms rendering minimal restriction on body movements. Other Improvement points stress the activity, uniform laundering and care, convenience in on and off, insulation, colors, design and durability.
