  • In data transmission system, some data are more sensitive to channel errors. Unequal error protection method increases transmission reliability by protecting channel error sensitive data more than other data. However, this method cannot be directly applied to vector quantized signals which are designed by LBG algorithm that assumes no channel distortion in the design, process. Therefore, in this paper, to apply unequal error protection to vector quantized signals, we propose a method which systematically assigns binary indexes to code vectors. We applied the proposed method to the transmission of vector quantized first-order Gauss-Marcov signals assuming that the percentage of the important data is 50%

  • This paper presents a new analytical approach for the evaluation of the reverse link interference in a CDMA cellular system with unequal cell loading. In particular, the dynamic nature of the reverse link power control has been taken into account in the proposed approach so that a realistic effect of unequal cell loading, including the shadowing and soft handoff, on system capacity may be precisely captured. This is aspect that has not beensuccessfully formmulated and rarely attempted tosolve in any previous analytical approach. Our computational result shows that as the loading of every tier of surrounding cells is doubled, the subscriber capacity of the reference cell can be reduced as much as 27% of that obtained in the case that the effect of power control is not appropriately modeled.

  • The transient response of a three-dimensional straight fin of constant cross sectional area and perimeter with unequal top, bottom, left, right and tip surface convection coefficients is analyzed using separation variables and Laplace transforms when the fin base is subjected to a step change in temperature. The three-dimensional effects of fin dimensions and unequal fin surface convection coefficients on the fin performance which is expressed in terms of the heat flowrates through the fin base are investigated, and errors in one-dimensions and unequal fin surface coefficients. Typical results are represented in tabular and graphical forms.

  • One of the major problems in electric power quality is the harmonic contents. There are several methods of indicating the quantity of harmonic contents. The most widely used measure is the total harmonic distortion (THD). Various switching techniques have been used in static converters to reduce the output harmonic content. This paper presents and compares the two harmonic optimization techniques, known as optimal minimization of the total harmonic distortion (OMTHD) technique and optimized harmonic stepped-waveform (OHSW) technique used in multi-level inverters with unequal dc sources. Both techniques are very effective and efficient for improving the quality of the inverter output voltage. First, we describe briefly the cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter structure. Then, we present the switching algorithm for the inverter based on OHSW and OMTHD techniques. Finally, the results obtained for the two techniques are analyzed and compared. The results verify the effectiveness of the both techniques in multi-level voltage-source inverter with non-equal dc sources, clarifying the advantages of each technique.

  • Unequal Error Protection(UP) is reasonable scheme in transmission of compressed video with low bit rate. Because it offers the error correction ability each other data according to the Source Significance Information. Hence it can also be flexible to the given channel environment on the video transmission. This paper propose the joint source channel coding through the UEP in consideration of the hierarchical structure of H.263+ based video and the influence of the transmission error. It especially proposes the error-resilient video transmission technique which can reduce complexity of channel coder & decoder by partitioning the video data with a frame. As the result of the proposed algorithm, it is possible to increase the quality of reconstructed video in the error environment without creating additional bits.

  • Error resilience for image coding is an important component of multimedia communication system. Error resilience schemes address loss recovery from the compression perspective. Multiple description coding (MDC) is one of the error resilience techniques promising for robust video transmission. It is the way to achieve tradeoff description such as scalar quantization, correlating transform and the quantized frame expansion. In this paper, we consider Multiple Description Scalar Quantization (MDSQ) to wavelet domain. Conventional MDSQ schemes considered description with equal weights in each sub-bands. But, we can see that the each sub-bands is unequal contribution to whole image quality. Therefore, we experiment the multiple design MDSQ table to make probability of zero index high, which gives high efficiency in arithmetic symbol coder. We also compare our proposed method with the conventional methods and show improved performance in terms of redundancy-rate-distortion.

  • A 1:6 Unequal 2-way Wilkinson power divider is proposed. The required microstrip line with $207{\Omega}$ characteristic impedance for 1:6 power divider is realized by adding defected ground structure (DGS) to the standard microstrip line. The adopted DGS has the rectangular geometry which results in the increased characteristic impedance. The rectangular-shaped DGS produces the transmission line having much higher characteristic impedance due to the increased equivalent inductance. The measured performances of the fabricated 1:6 power divider show the expected S-parameters with a good agreement with the predicted ones.

  • A multi-dimensional design is most easily constructed via the amalgamation of one-dimensional component block designs. However, not all sets of component designs are compatible to be amalgamated. The conditions for compatibility are related to the concept of a complete matching in a graph. In this paper, we give sufficient conditions for unequal-replicate designs. Two types of conditions are proposed; one is based on the number of verices adjacent to at least one vertex and the other is ona a degree of vertex, in a bipartite graph. The former is an extension of the sufficient conditions of equal-replicate designs given by Dean an Lewis (1988).
