  • 본 논문은 영국과 미국을 중심으로 실업 연구 동향을 고찰함으로써 우리 날 실업연구를 수행하는데 있어서의 과제와 이론적 기초를 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 실업의 지리적 패턴에 대한 관심은 계량혁명 시기에 시작되었으며, 이후 실업에 대한 지리학적 연구에는 많은 변화가 있었다. 실업에 대한 공식 정의들을 실업에 대한 제한적 묘사만을 제공하기 때문에 대안적인 지표-보다 광범위하고 포괄적인-가 요구되고 있다. 공식정의에 근거한 지역실업 연구는 현실의 문제를 축소하게 되는 경향이 있는데 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 노동시장 계정 접근이 대안적인 연구틀로서 제시된다.

The Effect of Economic Participatory Change on Unmet Needs of Health Care among Korean Adults (한국 성인의 경제활동 참여변화가 미충족 의료에 미치는 영향: 4·5차 한국의료패널자료를 이용하여)

  • Background: The objective of this research is to investigate and provide analysis of the economic participatory change affecting the unmet needs of health care in Korean adults. Methods: We used Korea health panel 4th and 5th data of 10,261 adults. The method of investigation is threefold. First, We identified the regional factors affecting unmet needs of health care. Second, we analyzed the effect of economic participatory change as it affects the unmet needs of health care. Third, we also investigated whether there were discernable differences between the age subgroups. Results: It was determined that influencing factors included sex, education, economic level, and health status. And after the subgroup analysis of age, we found that the economic participatory change was associated with the economical unmet needs of health care especially for those over 40 years of age. Also the population are facing unemployment enduring particular economic hardship in meeting their medical needs. Conclusion: This study finds that there are some policy recommendations for the sake of medical service equality. Medical welfare policy for those 40 years of age and older has been identified as an area that needs improvement. And considering that those 40 years of age and older are facing unemployment enduring particular economic hardship in meeting their medical needs, this study finds a need for government sponsored medical stipends or subsidizing of medical premiums, co-payment, and other fees.

A Cross-national Study of Social Exclusion - with Special References to Korea and European Countries - (한국의 사회적 배제 성격에 대한 연구 - 유럽연합 회원국과의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper purports to compare the differences and similarities of social exclusions in Korea with those in the European countries, notably Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Ireland and U.K. For this purpose, chapter two examines political and social origins of social exclusion as an alternative concept to poverty or unemployment. Chapter three discusses social exclusion paradigms of Silver(1994) in reference to welfare regime theories of Esping-Andersen(1990). Subsequently chapter four, using two artificial social exclusion indicators by principal component analysis, defines the basic nature of social exclusion of Korea in comparison with those of the six European countries. Chapter five duly concludes that social exclusions in Korea are very similar to those of liberal countries (Ireland and U.K.) in that income indicators (poverty and inequality) of Korea are much worse, whereas unemployment rate is relatively low.

Finding factors on employment by adult life cycle using decision tree model (의사결정나무모형을 사용한 성인 생애주기별 취업 영향요인 분석)

  • Due to global economy recession with low oil price, Korea has stepped into a stage of sluggish development, and the unemployment has become a major issue. Hence, we study various risk factors influencing on unemployment using the Korean labor and income panel data of 2014. We first divide the adult life cycle into three categories, such as young adult, adult, and old adult. Then we consider demographic variables, occupational variables and health related variables as risk factors. The decision tree models have shown that education and gender are the most important factors respectively in young adult group and in adult group. Gender, health status, and education are influential factors in old adult group.

A Process Analysis of the Employment Preparation of Chinese International Marriage Migrant Women (중국국적 결혼이주여성들의 취업준비 경험에 대한 과정분석)

  • This study is aimed at examining the employment preparation of Chinese migrant women and exploring measures to support their employment in a practical manner. To accomplish the objectives, in-depth interviews with 15 Han Chinese and Korean Chinese women, who represent the highest proportion in Korea, were conducted. Each interview lasted for about an hour and a half on average, and there were additional questionnaires and observations on vocational courses. Collected data was analyzed in 4 steps by utilizing the analysis methods suggested by Lichtman (the three C's of data analysis: codes, categories, concepts), which were transformed to fit the final data. The research findings are as follows. First, the fundamental reasons that Chinese migrant women seek employment in Korea are as follows: role model as a mother based on motherhood and the desire to be recognized as a member of society. Second, as for employment strategies, although all the respondents were only dependent on the referral of their acquaintances and national institutions, Han Chinese and Korean Chinese women had ambivalent attitudes toward each other. Third, they attributed the causes of unemployment to personal aspects such as the amount of effort made and luck, and social structural aspects, including employment instability and low acceptance of multi- cultural individuals. Fourth, the migrant women hoping for 'complete integration' in the future, suggested some practical employment support measures. Such measures should be established by comprehensively reflecting their reasons for getting a job, employment strategies, attributions of unemployment, and employment outlook, rather than as response measures to the low birth rate and aging issues in Korea.

  • Due to the economic recession and corporation's growth without more jobs, college graduates unemployment issue has been emerged as a serious social problem. Since the employment rate of each college became an important factor of college evaluation by the government, each college is trying to increase the employment rate of students. Therefore universities are supporting student employment through various policies and programs. However there have been perception differences in intention of employment supporting activities, final results, preparedness, student satisfaction level and overall effectiveness level of program between students and university career center staff members. The perception differences may lead not only to the waste of budget but also ineffectiveness of various programs to promote student employment. Therefore this research proposed new revised efficient employment supporting programs of universities and desirable attitude of students to increase the effectiveness of student employment based on the analysis of perception level on the several issues such as degree of usefulness of program and satisfaction level of students.

Factors Affecting Working Participation of University Students (대학생의 근로 참여 의지에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Today, Competition in employment among the youth is more intensified and this phenomena lead to youth unemployment problems. This study was conducted to found the influence of youth employment effort on labor participation. We studied what variables could affect motivation of employment preparation especially among undergraduate and graduated students. We used 3rd~5th(2009~2011) 'Youth Panel Data' designed by Korean Employment Information Service. Data we adjusted were male(3,481) female(3,770). We applied the Generalized Estimating Equations to Panel logit model. We found that job education and training, career guidance, job shadowing program, getting new certification, sex, age and change of gross income affected employment preparation with controling education factors, socio-economic factors. This study found the effort of employment preparation was significant impact on labor participation and showed an influence on each variable empirically. We suggest that the youth-unemployment problem there is a need to approach fundamental aspects.

Employment Rate of the Youth in Korea: An Analysis by Types of Education and Training Institutes (교육훈련기관 유형별 청년층 취업률 분석)

  • This study aims to examine the transition of the youth to the labor market by types of education and training institutes focusing employment rate. To construct the dataset for the analysis, the list of the graduates from 4-year universities, junior colleges, polytechnic colleges and the graduates from vocational training institutes as of February 2001 has been merged with the database for the insured in the Unemployment Insurance Database. This data enables tracking down of these graduates in terms of their mobility in the labor market. For graduates from universities and junior colleges, their scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test have been matched. One of major findings is that the longer the schooling period is, the better the employment results are. Among those who finished 4-year universities, those who went to schools in the metropolitan area achieve a relatively better record in job finding than those who attended schools in the local areas. Meanwhile it is confirmed that the SAT score is highly co-related with the performance in the labor market among those who finished 4-year universities. The co-relation of one's major with his/her employment is not negligible also.

An Analysis on the Employment Determinants of University Graduates in NURI Project Teams -the Case of the Universities in Busan Region- (누리사업단 대학졸업자의 취업결정요인 분석 - 부산지역대학의 사례 -)

  • This paper analyzes the determinants of the employment status of the NURI-project-teams' college and university graduates in Busan area. The major results are as follows: First, education level, household income, grade point average and certificate turn out to be significant variables to decide employment or spell of unemployment. Second, parents' education level, household income, the size of project team, the firm size are shown to affect employment in Busan. In particular, the bigger the firm is, the probability of getting job in Busan is getting smaller. And there are two sides of provincial university graduates' moving into the Metropolitan area; the voluntary move and the involuntary move. Third, sex., education level, major, grade point average, the size of project team etc, are found to be significant determinants of wage level.

A Longitudinal Study on the Influential Factors for the Labor Market Entry of Disabled Women (여성장애인 노동시장 진입 영향요인에 관한 종단연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to grasp the influencing factors on the labor market entry of disabled women, and to suggest policy alternatives to support the labor market entry of them. This article utilized the survey data of the 3rd to the 7th Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled in 2010-2014(by PSED), which is a longitudinal survey for the disabled in Korea. I analyzed the pattern changes of the labor market entry of them with the passage of years, and the influencing factors on that by the event history analysis. The major findings are as follows: First, according to the life table analysis involved in change of the labor market entry, 90% of them continued to remain the longest period of unemployment for four years and the labor market entry rate was only 10% of them. Second, the result of Cox regression analysis shows that public benefit recipient or not, the degree of disability and discrimination experience at the job market were factors to affect the labor market entry. With these results, this study suggested the practical alternatives to improve the labor market entry of disabled women.
