  • In this research, we analyzed the effects of the independent research program on the educational experience of undergraduate students in a research-centered university setting. The independent research program was developed to provide undergraduate students with opportunities to engage in self(student)-initiated, self-regulated and self-responsible research projects. We hypothesized that outcomes of the program would be utilized as a baseline information in formulating the strategies for improvement of the undergraduate curriculum. Eighty three undergraduate students participated in the program during the period of 2003-2009. In order to evaluate results of the program, we carried out survey and in-depth interviews with the participants. According to the participant reports, the independent research program has helped them to develop self-managed research abilities and problem solving skills. They also indicate that the program has offered them the opportunities to survey the various major fields transcending different domains, so as to help them to contemplate on their future career choices. We suggest that such information may provide an essential guideline for developing an innovative undergraduate curriculum.

  • Purpose: This study investigated how interprofessional education (IPE) related to medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students, has been designed and conducted. Furthermore, the outcomes of these IPE programs were evaluated. Methods: A scoping review was performed to understand the content and methods of IPE on medication for undergraduate healthcare students, including nursing students. A literature search was done using PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Embase, Research Information Sharing Service, and Korean Nursing Database in English between January 2000 and December 2022. In total, 14 papers were selected and reviewed. Results: Eleven research studies were conducted on the implementation of one-time IPE on medication safety or errors. Among them, six studies focused on providing IPE to nursing students alongside medical and pharmacy students, while three studies targeted nursing and medical students, and two studies focused on nursing and pharmacy students. The most commonly employed educational method was simulation, which was utilized in 12 studies. All studies consistently reported a positive impact on attitudes toward IPE and effective communication. Additionally, five studies evaluating medication knowledge reported improvements in participants' understanding of drugs. Conclusion: The effects of IPE related to medication for undergraduate nursing students have been confirmed. It is necessary to introduce IPE in the field of pharmacology.

The factors showed significant relationships with mental health were gender, and number of person contacted on offline within online counterparts, and with problem-focused coping were gender, preferred types of SNS, period of use, and hours per day on SNS, with social support seeking were preferred types of SNS, hours per day on SNS, and number of online counterparts, with emotion-focused coping were grade, instruments types for using SNS, and hours per day on SNS and with wishful thought were instruments types for using SNS, and hours per day on SNS. There was a positive correlation between mental health and stress coping type. Based on the results, future research needs to develop positive SNS usage strategies to improve the mental well-being and ways of coping in undergraduate students.

Methods: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects consisted of 42 sophomore undergraduate nursing students who had completed a fundamental nursing course (experimental group: n=21, control group n=21). The nursing information literacy competency education program consisted of 8 steps in 8 sessions, taught over 4 weeks, which was 20 hours in total. Data were collected between January 23 and March 14, 2019 and were analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, t-test, paired t-test, and repeated measure ANOVA with SPSS/WIN 23.0. Results: Significant differences were shown between the experimental and control groups regarding nursing information literacy competency (F=91.74, p<.001), problem-solving ability (F=52.43, p<.001), self-directed learning ability (F=36.61, p<.001), and evidence-based practice competency (F=59.66, p<.001). Conclusion: The nursing information literacy competency education program was effective in improving the nursing information literacy competency, problem-solving ability, self-directed learning ability, and evidence-based practice competency of nursing students. Hence, we recommend the nursing information literacy education program will be included as an independent course in the nursing curriculum for undergraduate nursing students to promote a needed proficiency in nursing information literacy competency.

A total of 500 young adults aged 19-34 participated in the study through an online survey. Participants responded to questions on general characteristics, dietary problems, and the need for dietary education and programs. The subjects were divided into three groups as follows: Undergraduate students, employed workers, and others. Among the subjects from single-person households, 20.2, 67, and 12.8% were undergraduate students, employed workers, and others, respectively. When asked for their estimation of an appropriate self-pay when participating in a cooking class, 39.8% of total subjects responded '5,000-10,000 won'. The most preferred program for young adults in single-person households was the 'support food package'. For the preferred method of dietary education, undergraduate students showed a greater preference for classes 'at campuses'. However, employed workers and others had a higher preference for 'non-face-to-face online classes'. Undergraduate students tended to generally have a higher preference for dietary education and support programs compared to employed workers and others. This study provides data that will be useful for establishing healthy dietary policies and education programs for young single-person households in Korea.
