  • Expert systems using uncertain and ambiguous knowledge are not of the recent interests about uncertainty problem for performing inference similar to the decision making of a human expert. Human factors on rule-based systems often involve uncertain information. Expert systems had been used the methods of conflict resolution in a rule conflict situation, but this methods not properly solved the rule conflict. If a human expert appends a new rule to an original rule base, the rule base rightly causes a rule conflict. In this paper, the problem of rule conflict is regarded as one in which uncertainty of information is fundamentally involved. In the reduction of problem with uncertainty, we propose an enhanced rule ordering method, which improve the rule ordering method using Dempster-Shafer theory. We also propose a combinative index, which involve human factors of experts decision making.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to describe health in optimal fitness (HOF) in young children born prematurely and to analyze factors affecting HOF in health status, investment resources, and anthropological values, based on HOF theory. Methods: A case-control study of 76 children with preterm births (PTB) was conducted at 24 to 42 months of corrected age. Their HOF status was evaluated based on height, weight, head circumference, and the Korean-Bayley Scale of Infant Development-II and classified as either HOF-achieved or HOF-uncertain in the domain of growth, development, and all together. Results: For growth, development, and all, 26.3%, 27.6%, and 47.4% of children, respectively, belonged to the HOF-uncertain group. Logistic regression analysis showed that longer length of hospital stay (${\geq}21days$; OR=7.8; 95% CI [1.5, 40.5]), worse scores on the Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment (HOME) (${\geq}38$; OR=0.1; 95% CI [0.0, 0.4]), having a working mother, (OR=5.7; 95% CI [1.2, 27.6]), and an older mother (${\geq}35years$; OR=8.8; 95% CI [2.1, 37.3]) were statistically significant contributors of HOF-uncertain in the domain of all. Conclusion: Findings show that young children born prematurely with prolonged stays in a neonatal intensive care unit and insufficient socioeconomic resources at home are more likely to exhibit delayed growth and development.

  • Plants which are having conditions of high temperature and pressure always are exposed to danger. In order to prevent unexpected accidents, safety management that can effectively and appropriately examine facilities is required in plant operation. RBI(Risk-Based Inspection) technology in API 581 is one of standard management technique for evaluating risk on petroleum plants. There are qualitative and quantitative assessments in RBI methodology. Quantitative evaluation step is complex and required much information, so high-risk facilities in plant are selected firstly by qualitative method. Qualitative RBI is performed by choosing the answer in prepared questionnaire. However, it is difficult to believe thoroughly results from survey including ambiguous information. In this study, the procedure of qualitative RBI analysis with considering probability distribution concept were proposed by using Monte Carlo simulation method in order to increase reliability in spite of uncertain factors. In addition, qualitative risk of cooling system for LNG plant was evaluated using proposed procedure. Although 20 items of total 39 assessment items are applied to uncertain factors, risk section of high probability(89%) were verified. The detailed results were described in manuscript.

  • In this paper, we applied a PC interface and an embedded system in order to design a non-linear system and implement the PID algorithm as our control one. We used the inverted pendulum, one of the most generally used non-linear system models, to control uncertain factors in the environment. This paper showed how to use this non-linear system model to control the factors completely as well as to understand the PID algorithm. Furthermore, this paper applied and understood the embedded system.

  • Within a probabilistic framework, this paper addresses the determination of the static structural response of beams and frames with partially restrained (semi-rigid) connections. The flexibility of the nodal connections is incorporated via an idealized linear-elastic behavior of the beam constraints through the use of rotational springs, which are here considered uncertain for taking into account the largely scattered results observed in experimental findings. The analysis is conducted via the Probabilistic Transformation Method, by modelling the spring stiffness terms (or equivalently, the fixity factors of the beam) as uniformly distributed random variables. The limit values of the Eurocode 3 fixity factors for steel semi-rigid connections are assumed. The exact probability density function of a few indicators of the structural response is derived and discussed in order to identify to what extent the uncertainty of the beam constraints affects the resulting beam response. Some design considerations arise which point out the paramount importance of probability-based approaches whenever a comprehensive experimental background regarding the stiffness of the beam connection is lacking, for example in steel frames with semi-rigid connections or in precast reinforced concrete framed structures. Indeed, it is demonstrated that resorting to deterministic approaches may lead to misleading (and in some cases non-conservative) outcomes from a design viewpoint.

  • This paper present a new optimization model to generate aggregate production planning by considering electric cost. The new Time Of Switching (TOS) electric type is introduced by switching over Time Of Day (TOD) and Time Of Use (TOU) electric types to minimize the electric cost. The fuzzy demand and Dynamic inventory tracking with multiple plant capacity are modeled to cover the uncertain demand of customer. The constraint for minimum hour limitation of plant running per one start up event is introduced to minimize plants idle time. Furthermore; the Optimal Weight Moving Average Factor for customer demand forecasting is introduced by monthly factors to reduce forecasting error. Application is illustrated for multiple cement mill plants. The mathematical model was formulated in spreadsheet format. Then the spreadsheet-solver technique was used as a tool to solve the model. A simulation running on part of the system in a test for six months shows the optimal solution could save 60% of the actual cost.

  • A new robust control law is proposed for uncertain rigid robots and two composite robust control laws for flexible-joint manipulators which contain uncertainties. The uncertainty, is nonlinear and (possibly fast) time-varying. Therefore, the uncertain factors such as imperfect modeling, function, payload change, and external disturbances are all addressed. Based only on the possible bound of the uncertainty, a robust controller is constructed for the rigid counterpart of the flexible-joint robot Some feedback control terms are then added to the robust control law to stabilize the elastic vibrations at the joints. To show that the proposed composite robust control laws are indeed applicable to flexible-joint robots, a singular perturbation approach and the stability study based on Lyapunov function are proposed.

  • A disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller is proposed in this paper. The lumped disturbance to the vehicle yaw rate dynamics caused by the uncertain factors such as uncertain tire forces and parameters is estimated by the disturbance observer, which is utilized by the robust controller to stabilize the lateral dynamics of the vehicle. The dynamics of the hydraulic actuator is incorporated in the vehicle stability controller design using the model reduction technique. Modular control design methodology is adopted to effectively deal with the mismatched uncertainty. Simulation results indicate that the proposed disturbance observer-based vehicle stability controller can achieve the desired reference tracking performance as well as sufficient level of robustness.

  • When real robot manipulators arc mathematically modeled, uncertainties are not avoidable. The uncertainties are often nonlinear and time varying, The uncertain factors come from imperfect knowledge of system parameters, payload change, friction, external disturbance and etc. We proposed a class of robust hybrid position/force control of manipulators and provided the stability analysis in the previous work. In the work, we propose a class of adaptive robust hybrid position/force control of manipulators with bound estimation and the stability based on Lyapunov function is presented. Especially, this controller does not need the information of uncertainty bound. The simulation results are provided to show the effectiveness of the algorithm.

  • Based on non-completely hybrid flow line scheduling of panel block in shipbuilding, several uncertain factors influencing the problem were analyzed in a real environment, and a nonlinear integer programming model was built for each sub-scheduling problem. To narrow the difference between theory and application, rolling horizon and rescheduling methods are proposed. Moreover, with respect to the uncertainty of processing time, arriving time and due time, we take the minimizing of the early and delayed delivery costs as the objective, and establish an evaluation with a global penalty function. Finally, numerical experiments and a simulation analysis were undertaken to demonstrate the effectiveness of the model and algorithm.
