Seven tetracycline classes of antibiotics were treated using ultraviolet (UV) and $UV/H_2O_2$ oxidation. Two different UV lamps were used for the UV and $UV/H_2O_2$ oxidation. The performance of the UV oxidation was different depending on the lamp type. The medium pressure lamp showed better performance than the low pressure lamp. Combining the low pressure lamp with hydrogen peroxide ($H_2O_2$) improved the removal performance substantially. The by-products formation of tetracycline by UV and $UV/H_2O_2$ were investigated. The protonated form ($[1+H]^+$) of tetracycline was m/z 445, reacted to yield almost exclusively two oxidation by-products by UV and $UV/H_2O_2$ oxidation. Their protonated forms of by-products were m/z 461 and m/z 477. The structures of tetracycline's by-products in UV and $UV/H_2O_2$ system were similar.

Use of UV gel for nail management have been increasing gradually. In order to develop an UV lamp necessary to UV gel, in this study, we was designed circuits of the UV-LED lamp. Power supply part that supplies constant power to the several UV-LEDs, was designed the circuit with the method of DC-DC converter. Taking into account the direction of the thumb nail and the position of the little finger nail, it was placed UV-LEDs. Input power of the power supply part was used as a battery voltage of 3.8[V]. The output voltage of the power supply part was appeared in approximately 3.1[V]. And in order to examine the state of change of the output voltage according to the amount of current consumption of UV-LEDs, after inserting of load resister, the output voltage was more than about 3.0[V] in the simulation results of the power supply part while changing the resistance value.
UV disinfection is widely used in water treatment facilities and wastewater treatment plant because of its effectiveness to removal of pathogen and Giardia which is resistant to traditional chemical disinfection. As a design and performance tool of UV disinfection system, 3 dimensional UV intensity models were composed and simulated to compare each other and to find affecting factors in this study. Reflection, refraction and absorption are important parameters in UV intensity model and MPSS and MSSS model can reflect these parameters while LSI model can not. Absorption is the most important parameters among the reflection, refraction, absorption and shadowing so, this should not be neglect. Based on this simulation, shadowing effect is negligible when the number of installed lamp is a few but, this effect can not be neglectable when the number of installed lamp is quite a few. The errors according to shadowing effect is increased as the number of lamp installed increased.

In this paper, we dealt with the design and fabrication of a medium pressure ultra-violet (UV) lamp and a magnetic ballast which are main components for ballast water treatment systems (BWTS). To acquire an optimal discharge condition of UV lamp, electrical and optical characteristics depending on the argon gas volume and the amount of mercury were experimentally analyzed. Rated voltage, current and power consumption of a prototype lamp were 490 [V], 8.6 [A] and 4.0 [kW], respectively. UV intensity of the lamp was 15 [%] higher than that of an equivalent lamp which is used in a BWTS. The magnetic ballast was designed in a UI core type through theoretical analysis and simulation. The open voltage and the rated power consumption of the ballast were 920 [V] and 8.5 [kVA] respectively. The disinfection efficacy which is carried out in a BWTS equipped with the UV lamp and magnetic ballast was over 99.99 [%], and this satisfy the IMO regulations.

Generally, micro-stereolithography technology uses laser and complex optical system as light source and light delivery system, respectively. In this research, a novel micro-stereolithography technology that uses UV lamp that is more economical than UV laser as light source and optical fiber that is simpler than previous light delivery system has been developed. Furthermore, precise control system that is composed of 3-axis linear stage and shutter has been used to fabricate truly three dimensional micro-structure. For confirming the feasibility of developed micro-stereolithography apparatus, the solidification experiments were conducted. The solidification widths and depths datum of photopolymer as varying scanning speed of the UV light have been obtained. Using developed apparatus, some micro structures were fabricated successfully.
In order to photocatalytically treat organic matter (CODCr) and chromaticity effectively, chemical coagulation and sedimentation processes were employed as a pretreatment of the leachate produced from landfill in Jeju Island. This was performed using FeCl3·6H2O as a coagulant. For the treated leachate, UV/TiO2 and UV/TiO2/H2O2 systems were investigated, using 4 types of UV lamps, including an ozone lamp (24 W), TiO2 as a photocatalyst, and/or H2O2 as an initiator or inhibitor for photocatalytic degradation. In the chemical coagulation and sedimentation process using FeCl3·6H2O, optimum removal was achieved with an initial pH of 6, and a coagulant dosage of 2.0 g/L, culminating in the removal of 40% CODCr and 81% chromaticity. For the UV/TiO2 system utilizing an ozone lamp and 3 g/L of TiO2, the optimum condition was obtained at pH 5. However, the treated CODCr and chromaticity did not meet the emission standards (CODCr: 400 mg/L, chromaticity: 200 degrees) in a clean area. However, for a UV/TiO2/H2O2 system using 1.54 g/L of H2O2 in addition to the above optimum UV/TiO2 system, the results were 395 mg/L and 160 degrees, respectively, which were within the emission standard limits. The effect of the UV lamp on the removal of CODCr, and chromaticity of the leachate decreased in the order of ozone (24 W) lamp > 254 nm (24 W) lamp > ozone (14 W) lamp > 254 nm (14 W) lamp. Only CODCr and chromaticity treated with the ozone (24 W) lamp met the emission standards.

Recently, many three-dimensional micros-structures were fabricated using micro-stereolithography technology. However, for most conventional micro-stereolithography apparatus. an expensive laser was used as light source and complex optical systems were used. In this research. new type of micro-stereolithography apparatus which has UV lamp as light source and optical fiber as beam delivery system was developed. This apparatus is cheaper and simpler then conventional micro-stereolithography apparatus.

Photoreactivation of microorganism following UV-disinfection is one of the research topics of interest in assessing the UV-disinfection performance. Apparent photoreactivation was examined under fluorescent lamp and solar radiation as well as in darkness. Total coliform, fecal coliform, and Escherichia coli were used as indicator microorganisms, and their concentration was monitored with time after UV-disinfection. Under the darkness, their initial concentration of 10∼30 MPN/100 mL increased to the level of 100 MPN/100 mL after 24 hours, which implied that part of damaged microorganisms by UV-disinfection might be repairable with time. Under the fluorescent lamp, photoreactivation was more apparent that their concentration increased up to 1,000 MPN/100 mL which might significantly impair the water uses specially in reuse of reclaimed wastewater. However, their concentration further decreased down to below 2 MPN/100 mL under the solar radiation primarily due to additional disinfection by solar radiation rather than photoreactivation. Samples not disinfected by UV-disinfection also demonstrated substantial decrease of their concentration under solar radiation from about 5,000 MPN/100 mL to less than 30 MPN/100 mL in 24 hours. But direct reuse of effluent without disinfection is not recommended because natural decay by solar radiation may take time and be affected by climatic conditions. The result suggests that photoreactivation of pathogenic microorganisms may not be concerned in agricultural reuse of reclaimed wastewater because solar radiation may provide further disinfection after UV-disinfection.
Because of refractory property of light, the travel path of UV light becomes longer than the straight line and shorter solely in water as UV light passes sequentially through air, quartz and water. Note that water significantly absorbs UV light. Hence, UV intensity shall be estimated to be lower when refraction is neglected than it is considered. Reflection is also critical for the design of UV radiation system. While the reflection at the interface of air and quartz is low enough to ignore, it is too high to be ignored at the interface of quartz and water. Assuming constant power, smaller length to width ratio of UV reactor is beneficial and single-lamp system is preferred to multi-lamps. Under the given cross section, optimal lamp positions could be decided. For example of an elliptical reactor with dual lamps, the optimal lamp locations shall be the 1/3 and 2/3 position of the longer axis.
N-doped Titanium oxides were prepared by using urea as a source of nitrogen. The photoactivities of the doped $TiO_2$ were evaluated on the basis of degradation of humic acid in aqueous solutions with different light sources, ultraviolet lamp, fluorescent lamp and solar light. XRD analysis was conducted to identify the crystal structure of the synthesized photocatalysts. N-doped $TiO_2$ and $pure-TiO_2$ was anatase type. SEM results showed that spherical particles were formed, which are the characteristics of the anatase form. N doped $TiO_2$ showed higher $UV_{254}$ decrease ratio and DOC removal ratio compared to $pure-TiO_2$. The humic acid degradation reaction using the UV-A lamp and UV-C lamp was assigned to pseudo-first order reaction. For solar light, only $pure-TiO_2$ and $N-TiO_2$ exhibited the pseudo-first order reaction.
