SnS thin films with different substrate temperatures ($150 {\sim}300^{\circ}C$) as process parameters were grown on soda-lime glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering. The effects of substrate temperature on the structural and optical properties of SnS thin films were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy (Raman), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and Ultraviolet-visible-near infrared spectrophotometer (UV-Vis-NIR). All of the SnS thin films prepared at various substrate temperatures were polycrystalline orthorhombic structures with (111) planes preferentially oriented. The diffraction intensity of the (111) plane and the crystallite size were improved with increasing substrate temperature. The three major peaks (189, 222, $289cm^{-1}$) identified in Raman were exactly the same as the Raman spectra of monocrystalline SnS. From the XRD and Raman results, it was confirmed that all of the SnS thin films were formed into a single SnS phase without impurity phases such as $SnS_2$ and $Sn_2S_3$. In the optical transmittance spectrum, the critical wavelength of the absorption edge shifted to the long wavelength region as the substrate temperature increased. The optical bandgap was 1.67 eV at the substrate temperature of $150^{\circ}C$, 1.57 eV at $200^{\circ}C$, 1.50 eV at $250^{\circ}C$, and 1.44 eV at $300^{\circ}C$.
Silicon nanoparticle is a promising material for electronic devices, photovoltaics, and biological applications. Here, we synthesize silicon nanoparticles via $CO_2$ laser pyrolysis and study the hydrogen flow effects on the characteristics of silicon nanoparticles using high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometry. In $CO_2$ laser pyrolysis, used to synthesize the silicon nanoparticles, the wavelength of the $CO_2$ laser matches the absorption cross section of silane. Silane absorbs the $CO_2$ laser energy at a wavelength of $10.6{\mu}m$. Therefore, the laser excites silane, dissociating it to Si radical. Finally, nucleation and growth of the Si radicals generates various silicon nanoparticle. In addition, researchers can introduce hydrogen gas into silane to control the characteristics of silicon nanoparticles. Changing the hydrogen flow rate affects the nanoparticle size and crystallinity of silicon nanoparticles. Specifically, a high hydrogen flow rate produces small silicon nanoparticles and induces low crystallinity. We attribute these characteristics to the low density of the Si precursor, high hydrogen passivation probability on the surface of the silicon nanoparticles, and low reaction temperature during the synthesis.
2,7-Dihydroxynaphthalene bis(trimellitate anhydride) (2,7-TA) was synthesized from trimellitic anhydride chloride and 2,7-dihydroxynaphthalene. Copolyimides (Co-PI) containing ester group were synthesized from 2,7-TA, pxylylenediamine, and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzidine (TFB). The Co-PI films were obtained from poly(amic acid) by solution casting through thermal imidization on a glass plate. The thermal property, gas permeation, and optical transparency of the Co-PI films with various TFB monomer contents were investigated. These Co-PIs could be solution-cast into a flexible and tough film. The cast Co-PI films exhibited high optical transparency with a cut-off wavelength of 370~395 nm in UV-vis. absorption and a low yellow index value of 3.55~7.63. The thermal property of Co-PI films increased linearly with increasing TFB content. However, the oxygen permeation and optical transparency of the Co-PI films was found to worsen with increasing TFB content.

Al-doped ZnO (AZO) thin films were grown on quartz substrates by the sol-gel method. The effects of the Al mole fraction on the structural and optical properties of the AZO thin films were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and UV-VIS spectroscopy. The particle size of the AZO thin films decreased with an increase in Al concentrations. The optical parameters, the optical band gap, absorption coefficient, refractive index, dispersion parameter, and optical conductivity, were studied in order to investigate the effects of Al concentration on the optical properties of AZO thin films. The dispersion energy, single-oscillator energy, average oscillator wavelength, average oscillator strength, and refractive index at an infinite wavelength of the AZO thin films were affected by the Al incorporation. The optical conductivity of the AZO thin films also increased with increasing photon energy.
Novel carbazole based copolymers were synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization. (Diphenylene)vinylene and n-octyl was introduced to carbazole as pendants for reducing band gap and improving solubility, respectively. Thermal, photoluminescence and electro-luminescence of copolymers were studied for applying the emitting layer of polymer light emitting diode (PLED). Maximum UV-vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) emission wavelength of copolymers showed 333~340 nm and 409~464 nm in solution state, respectively. The relative quantum yield using 9,10-diphenylanthracene as a reference was 25.8%. These copolymers exhibited high thermal stability ($T_d$ = $350^{\circ}C$) and good film forming ability. Good luminance was obtained at voltages lower than 8 V and the onset voltage was observed at 4.0 V.
Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is the fracture toughness, as compared with the original glass. This improvement is due to the microstructure consisting of very small crystals. In this study, Ag-doped $45SiO_2-24CaO-24Na_2O-4P_2O_5$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by the crystallization using Femto second laser Pulses. Through the UV/VIS spectroscope, XRD, Nano-indenter and SEM etc., heat-treated and irradiation of laser pulses without heat-treated samples were analyzed. Two kinds of samples, heat-treated and laser irradiated without heat-treated samples, showed the peaks in the same wavelength near 360 nm. Especially, samples irradiated by 140 mW laser with XYZ stage having at the rate of 100$\~$l000 $\mu$m/s had the largest absorption peak among them, and heat-treated samples was shown lower absorption range than over 90 mW laser irradiated samples. Moreover, samples irradiated by laser had higher values ($4.4\~4.56{\times}10^{-3}(Pa)$) of elastic modulus which related with strength of glass than values of heat-treated samples and these are 1.2$\~$1 .5 times higher values than them of mother glass.

This Paper reports the photocatalytic activity of $g-C_3N_4/NaTaO_3$ hybrid composite photocatalysts synthesized by ball-mill method. The $g-C_3N_4$ and $NaTaO_3$ were individually prepared by Solid state reaction and microwave hydrothermal process, respectively. The $g-C_3N_4/NaTaO_3$ composite showed the enhanced photocatalytic activity for degradation of rhodamine B dye (Rh. B) under simulated solar light irradiation. The results revealed that the band-gap energy absorption edge of hybrid composite samples was shifted to a longer wavelength as compared to $NaTaO_3$ and the 50 wt% $g-C_3N_4/NaTaO_3$ hybrid composite exhibited the highest percentage (99.6 %) of degradation of Rh. B and the highest reaction rate constant ($0.013min^{-1}$) in 4 h which could be attributed to the enhanced absorption of the hybrid composite photocatalyst in the UV-Vis region. Hence, these results suggest that the $g-C_3N_4/NaTaO_3$ hybrid composite exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B under simulated solar light irradiation in comparison to the commercial $NaTaO_3$.
The characteristics of phosphate adsorption-desorption on kaolinite was studied by batch adsorption experiments and detailed adsorbed state of phosphate on kaolinite surface was investigated using ATR-FTIR (Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared) spectroscopy. The phosphorous contents were measured using UV-VIS-IR spectrophotometer with 820 nm wavelength. The adsorbed P was generally increased with increasing pH value in the range of pH 4 to pH 9, however it is not distinct. Moreover the adsorbed P was significantly changed with different initial phosphate concentration. The adsorption isotherms were well fitted with the Langmuir equation, Temkin equation, and Freundlich equation in descending order. The maximum Langmuir adsorption capacity of kaolinite KGa-2 is 232.5 ($204.1{\sim}256.5$) mg/kg and has very higher value than that of kaolinite KGa-1b. Most of adsorbed phosphate on kaolinite were not easily desorbed to aqueous solution, but might fixed on kaolinite surface. However it needs further research about the exact desorption experiment. It was impossible to recognize phosphorous adsorption bands on kaolinite in ATR-FTIR spectrum from kaolinite bands themselves, because the absorption peaks of phosphorous have very similar positions with those of kaolinite, and the intensities of the former were very weak in comparison with those of the latter.
Aim of this study is to identify dyestuff of the Dallryeong(official's robe in Joseon Dynasty, 16th century) excavated from Yuryang-dong, Cheonan, in 1996. For this purpose, extracted dyestuffs from Dallryeong fabric and from natural dyestuffs for red color(safflower, Sapanwood, Madder) which are presumed to have been used in the Dallryeong, are analyzed and compared by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). As a result, HPLC chromatogram of extracts of the Dallryeong's dyestuff and safflower are showed a peak at 17.5 minutes. The UV/Vis spectra of the samples are showed the maximum absorption wavelength at 519nm. This result is identical with the analysis of the previous studies on red dyestuff of safflower. In addition, the analysis of Mass Spectrometry(MS) showed the identical result of the peak with m/z 910. Following these results, excavated pink Dallryeong were considered to have been dyed with safflower.
AZO (Al-doped ZnO) thin films were deposited on glass by pulsed magnetron sputtering method, and their structural, electrical and optical properties were investigated. XRD patterns showed that a highly c-axis preferred AZO film was grown in perpendicular to the substrate when pulse frequency of 30 ㎑ was applied to the target. Microstructure of thin films showed that the fibrous grain of tight dome shape was grown. The deposition rate decreased linearly with increase of pulse frequency, and the lowest resistivity was 8.67${\times}$10$\^$-4/ $\Omega$-cm for the film prepared at pulse frequency of 30 ㎑. The optical transmittance spectra of the films showed a very high transmittance of 85∼90%, within visible wavelength region and exhibited the absorption edge of about 350 nm. The characteristics of the low electrical resistivity and high optical transmittance of AXO films suggested a possibility for the application to transparent conducting oxides.
