한국과 미국 패션제품의 가격와 객관적 품질에 관한 비교연구 -1990년대를 중심으로- (The Comparative Study on Price and Objective Quality of Apparel Products between Korea and United States - Focused on 1990's -)

  • Although importance of the price and objective quality relationships, very few studies have investigated the relationship related to apparel products. The purpose of this study were to examine 1990's the relationship between price and objective apparel products quality in the Korea Market and the United States market. Data sources in this study consisted of consumer magazines which were published by nonprofit organizations(1990 ∼1999) : Consumer Times(Korea), and Consumer Reports(U.S.A). The results showed that the correlations between price and objective apparel products quality were very weak positive and highly dependent upon the specific apparel product categories. Therefore, price was not a reliable measure of apparel products quality in the two countries market places. This study will help the consumer understand the relationship between price cues and apparel product objective quality and provide additional information to enhance purchase decision making.

국가이미지: 한·미 소비자들에게 과연 그렇게 중요한가? (Country Image: Does It Really Matter to Consumers between Korea and the U.S.?)

  • 대체로 소비자들은 어느 국가에서 제조된 제품인가에 관련하여 제각기 다른 국가이미지와 소비형태를 보인다. 소비자 행동의 본질은 제품의 특징에서 나오는 진실보다는 오히려 소비자 마음속에 있는 정신적 이미지인 것이다. 본 연구는 이러한 국가이미지가 실제 소비자들에게 제품을 선택할 때 얼마나 중요한 영향을 끼치는 가를 한국과 미국의 소비자를 대상으로 북미자유협정 체결 후 멕시코제품을 통하여 조사하였다. 연구의 결과는 멕시코산 제품 구입에 대한 한미 소비자들의 태도가 구조방정식 모형 테스트 결과 차이가 있음을 보여준다.

Effect of Individual Differences on Online Review Perception and Usage Behavior: The Need for Cognitive Closure and Demographics

  • This article examines how individual differences on the need for cognitive closure and demographics influence consumer perception and the usage of consumer reviews in online shopping. Data were randomly collected from 2,381 U.S. online consumer review users through an online survey. The findings from multiple regression analyses revealed the different effects of the need for cognitive closure dimensions (i.e., preference for order and structure, preference for predictability, discomfort with ambiguity, closed-mindedness, and decisiveness) and demographic characteristics on consumer attitudes, perceived online review influence, benefits, persuasiveness, and review usage behavior. Finally, practical implications and prospects for future research are discussed.

한국과 미국 간 모바일 앱 리뷰의 감성과 토픽 차이에 관한 탐색적 비교 분석 (An Exploratory Study on Mobile App Review through Comparative Analysis between South Korea and U.S.)

  • Smartphone use is rapidly spreading due to the advantage of being able to connect to the Internet anytime, anywhere--and mobile app development is developing accordingly. The characteristic of the mobile app market is the ability to launch one's app into foreign markets with ease as long as the platform is the same. However, a large amount of prior research asserts that consumers behave differently depending on their culture and, from this perspective, various studies comparing the differences between consumer behaviors in different countries exist. Accordingly, this research, which uses online product reviews (OPRs) in order to analyze the cultural differences in consumer behavior comparatively by nationality, proposes to compare the U.S. and South Korea by selecting ten apps which were released in both countries in order to perform a sentimental analysis on the basis of star ratings and, based on those ratings, to interpret the sentiments in reviews. This research was carried out to determine whether, on the basis of ratings analysis, analysis of review contents for sentiment differences, analysis of LDA topic modeling, and co-occurrence analysis, actual differences in online reviews in South Korea and the U.S. exist due to cultural differences. The results confirm that the sentiments of reviews for both countries appear to be more negative than those of star ratings. Furthermore, while no great differences in high-raking review topics between the U.S. and South Korea were revealed through topic modeling and co-occurrence analyses, numerous differences in sentiment appeared-confirming that Koreans evaluated the mobile apps' specialized functions, while Americans evaluated the mobile apps in their entirety. This research reveals that differences in sentiments regarding mobile app reviews due to cultural differences between Koreans and Americans can be seen through sentiment analysis and topic modeling, and, through co-occurrence analysis, that they were able to examine trends in review-writing for each country.

한국과 미국 가계의 사적연금자산 의존도 (Private Pension Dependency of Korean and U.S. Households)

  • 본 연구는 한국과 미국 가계의 사적연금자산의 의존도를 비교하고 그 결정요인을 분석함으로써 향후 한국의 연금제도 및 정책적 방향에 관한 유용한 시사점을 도출하는 것에 주요 목적을 두고 있다. 이 목적을 위하여 가장 최근의 조사 자료를 사용하였는데, 한국의 경우는 국민연금연구원의 국민노후보장패널(KReIS, Korean Retirement and Income Study) 5차(2013) 자료를 사용하였고, 미국의 경우는 FRB의 2013년 SCF(Survey of Consumer Finances)를 사용하였다. 사적연금자산 의존도는 가계의 총 금융자산 중에서 사적연금자산이 차지하는 비중으로 정의하였고 결정요인의 추정에는 토빗모형(tobit model)이 사용되었다. 연구결과를 종합해 보면 가계의 소득과 순자산 수준, 가구주 교육수준과 연령, 건강상태는 한국과 미국 모두 다른 변수들을 통제한 상태에서도 사적연금자산의 의존도를 결정짓는 중요한 요인으로 나타났다. 가구주 교육수준과 연령, 건강상태의 영향력은 두 나라 모두 사적연금자산 의존도에 동일한 방향으로 작용하고 있었으나 소득과 순자산 수준은 반대 방향으로 영향을 미치고 있었다. 한국 가계의 경우는 높은 수준의 소득과 순자산은 사적연금자산 의존도를 증가시키는 것으로 연결되었고, 미국의 경우는 소득과 순자산 수준이 높을수록 사적연금자산 의존도를 낮추는 것으로 나타났다.

미국산 청바지에 대한 소비자 태도의 비교문화 분석 -한국과 멕시코의 남녀소비자를 대상으로 - (Cross-Cultural Comparison of Consumer Attitudes toward US Brand Jeans -among Korean and Mexican consumers-)

  • An understanding of consumers' evaluative processes and the consumer variables that influence cross-cultural evaluations of foreign products is essential to effectively penetrate international markets. This study compared consumers in two developing countries, Korea and Mexico, regarding their product evaluations and purchase intentions for US Levi's jeans. Both Korean and Mexican consumers are generally quality and price conscious. Korean consumers appeared to be more value-conscious than Mexican consumers. Mexican consumers exhibited high level of brand and prestige conscious behavior. Findings in this study support that culture bound consumer characteristics vary from country to country resulting in differences in perception of quality, value and purchase intentions for a particular product. The perception of product quality differs from perception of value and subsequent willingness to buy. For a comprehensive understanding of consumer purchase behavior, the impact of value-conscious attitude on percetion of quality and on purchase intentions should be examined.

미국 신뢰 정도와 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 이율배반적 수용 태도 및 쇠고기 소비량 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on Trust in U.S., Antinomic Acceptance toward U.S. Beef and Changes in the Amount of Beef Consumption)

  • 2003년에 광우병 발생으로 수입 금지되었던 미국산 쇠고기는 2008년 한 미 FTA 체결로 인하여 전면 수입 개방되었고, 이는 국민들의 불안심리를 자극하여 정부와의 갈등을 야기시켰으며, 2008년 국내 최대 이슈가 되었다. 이러한 사회적 논란은 소비자들의 수입 쇠고기 및 한 육우의 소비를 감소시켰다. 따라서 본 연구는 쇠고기의 사용자 측면(일반 소비자)과 제공자의 측면(외식 예비 창업자)에서 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 수용 태도를 조사하고, 그에 따라서 쇠고기 소비량 변화에 대한 탐색적 연구를 실시하고자 하였고, 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 수용 태도는 소비자들의 불신과 두려움, 분노와 같은 부정적 감정으로 인한 태도를 측정하기 위해 이율배반이라는 개념을 도입하여 측정하였다. 그 결과, 미국산 쇠고기에 대한 이율배반적 수용 태도는 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 일반 소비자는 미국산 쇠고기에 대해 자신은 먹지 않지만, 타인이 먹는 것은 괜찮다는 이율배반적인 수용 태도 B형에 동의할수록 쇠고기 소비량은 증가하는 것으로 나타났고, 외식 예비 창업자는 미국산 쇠고기에 대해 자신은 먹지만, 타인이 먹는 것은 걱정된다는 이율배반적 수용 태도 A형에 동의할수록 쇠고기 소비량은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 외식 예비 창업자는 미국을 신뢰할수록 이율배반적 수용 태도 A형에 대한 동의가 낮아지고, 일반 소비자는 미국을 신뢰할수록 이율배반적 수용 태도 B형에 대한 동의가 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.

한국과 미국 대학생의 청바지 제품 속성의 기대, 성과, 구매 후 행동에 관한 비교 연구 (A Study on the Consumer Satisfaction of Expectance, Performance, Post-purchase Behavior toward Jeans Wear between Korea and The United States)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare consumer satisfaction by analyzing importance on characteristics of clothing, performance, and their inconsistency between Korea and the United States. The data was collected by using a survey based on three sages of pre-tests, and main survey conducted in The U.S and Korea. Data of 520 participants from each country (260 males and 260 females) was used. The results of this study is as follows: First, both consumers in Korea and U.S. showed five factors such as aesthetics/trend, body shape, practical use/wearing, care, and distorted. In performance factor of Korean students was consisted of wearing/care, aesthetics, body shape, distorted, and trend/symbolism while that of American students was consisted of wearing, aesthetics, body shape, trend/image factor, and distorted. Second, regarding importance rate, aesthetics/trend, practical use/wearing, care, and distorted affected satisfaction of Korean students whereas aesthetics/trend factor affected satisfaction of American students. Regarding performance, body shape factor, distorted, trend/symbolic affected satisfaction of Korean students whereas trend/image affected satisfaction of American students. Third, satisfaction of Korean and American students influenced re-purchase intention and positive word-of-mouth, so proved to be the result variable of satisfaction. By understanding the differences between consumers in Korea and U.S., apparel importers and exporters may develop effective business strategies to better fulfill their customers' needs and desires, and therefore, increase their profit.

미국 도심에 거주하는 55세 이상 독신가구의 주거만족도에 관한 연구 (Housing Satisfaction of 55+ Single-Person Householders in U.S. Urban Communities)

  • This study aims to analyze the housing satisfaction of 55 years and older (55+) single-person householders in U.S. urban communities with the 2011 American Housing Survey Data. Single-person householders younger than 55 years of age (55-) were used as a reference group. Housing Adjustment Theory was used to develop a research framework to depict the relationships of housing satisfaction (dependent variable) with demographic and housing variables (independent variables). The regression analysis revealed that age, health status, government income, race, gender, age of house, housing quality, neighborhood, structure type, and tenure status had a significant effect on housing satisfaction levels of both those aged 55- and 55+. However, for the cohort of 55+, education, census region, housing affordability, and structure size also affected their housing satisfaction. Neighborhood satisfaction had the strongest effect on housing satisfaction of both groups. These variables were discussed in terms of resources and constraints contributing to their housing satisfaction. This study highlights the present and future housing trends and challenges of U.S. single householders in U.S. urban communities.

재미 동 남부 아시아계 유학생의 의류구매 행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on Consumer Behavior of the Oriental Students Regarding Clothing purchase at Texas State of The United States)

  • The Purpose of the study is to identify some factors affecting the consumer behavior of the Oriental students in the United States and provide some basic information for desirable consumer skills. The ninety subjects ere collected form the Oriental groups who were studying in Denton, Texas, U.S.A. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, X2-test. The results are as follows: 1) There are significant similarities in the consumer behavior of the Oriental students regarding the information source, the preferred type of clothing, the factors affecting the choice of retail store, and the satisfaction after the clothing purchase. 2) There are some differences in the consumer behavior among three groups regarding expenditures of the purchase of clothing and the preferred choice of retail store. This study concludes that the Oriental students tend to: 1) adjust their life style to new situation ; 2) avoid their conflicts dur to the language barrier; 3) have a limited income to stay in the USA; and 4) have their own social acceptability based on their nationality.
