  • This paper presents a self tuning method of a velocity type PID controller for minimum or non-minimum phase systems with time delays. The velocity type PID control structure is determined in the process of minimizing the variance of the auxilliary output, and self tuning effect is achieved through the recursive least square algorithm at the parameter estimation stage and also through the Robbins-Monro algorithm at the stage of optimizing a design parameter. This method is simple and effective compared with other existing methods[1,2]. Numerical examples are included to illustrate the procedure and to show the performance of the control system.

  • This paper presents the introduction of Pseudo-2 axes robot module and its GA-based fuzzy control implementation. Pseudo-2 axes robot module which use a single motor and controller for driving 2 joints of a robot mechanism, is devised towards a lower priced robot with its degree of freedom maintained GA-based Fuzzy controller is considered for the better control implementation of the developed system than the conventional PID controller. Here. the scaling factors of the membership function with high fitness values are selected using a genetic algorithm for a pulse-type input trajectory. The obtained controller also shows better trajectory tracking performance than a PID controller.

  • In practice, the property of nonlinearity is contained in all physical systems. In other word, all physical systems are nonlinear to some degree. Therefore it is important that we acquires a facility for analyzing feedback control systems with varying degrees of nonlinearity. To operate the system linearly over wide range of variation of signal amplitude and frequency, the system requires components of an extremely high quality. Such a system would probably be impractical in the view points of cost, space and weight. In this context of view, it is worth noting that the nonlinearities may be intentionally introduced into a system in order to compensate for the effects of other undesirable nonlinearities or to obtain better performance than what could be achieved using linear element only. A simple example of an intentional nonlinearity is the use of a nonlinear damped system to optimize response in accordance with the magnitude of error. In this paper, an on-off type nonlinear controller is introduced and the applicability and validity of a simple on-off controller are presented by the experimental result.

  • In our previous research, we proposed a robust saturation controller which involves both control input saturation and structured real parameter uncertainties. This controller can analytically prescribed the upper and lower bounds of parameter uncertainties, and guarantee the closed-loop robust stability of the system in the presence of actuator's saturation. And the availability and the effectiveness of the proposed robust saturation controller were verified through numerical simulations. In this paper, we verify the robust stability of this controller through experimental tests. Expecially, we show unstable cases of other controllers in comparison with this controller. Experimental tests are carried out in the laboratory using a two-story test structure with a hydraulic-type active mass damper.

  • A new integral controller is proposed for time-delay plants. The proposed controller has Davison type structure and utilizes a simplified state predictor instead of the optimal state predictor for the extended system. The simplified predictor is introduced by a trick similar to that used in the Smith predictor. As a systematic method for designing the proposed controller, the application of the loop transfer recovery (LTR) technique is considered. For the plant input side and the output side, explicit representations of the sensitivity matrices achieved by enforcing the formal LTR procedure using Riccati equations are obtained. A numerical example is presented to compare the asymptotic...

  • This Paper proposes a practical design and implementation methodology for a disturbance rejection controller. In a 2 Degree-Of-Freedom (DOF) structure, disturbance rejection performance can be improved without a high gain in forward-loop controller which might cause unwanted side-effects in conventional controller. But, since design methodology of 2 DOF controller is originally derived from the 2 DOF theory, it is not easy to utilize fer various industrial applications. Disturbance observer is a simple, but very effective 2 DOF controller. In this paper, practical issues are discussed from basic idea of DOB to technical procedure for design and implementation. Additionally, a methods and their examples of experimental modeling are explained. The proposed method is demonstrated by two examples of linear-type motor systems.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for swing-up and stabilization of a SESIP(Self-Erecting Single Inverted Pendulum) system which is one of the typical nonlinear systems. We use PV(Proportional velocity) controller for swinging up the pendulum and employ a PI-type state-feedback controller for stabilizing the pendulum. Control is switched to a stabilizing controller, which is designed to balance the inverted position of pendulum and the cart position to the near vertical position. Computer simulations are performed to illustrate the control performance of the proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, the hybrid-type current controller for inverter TIG systems was implemented and it was shown that the low-current pulse wave forms with high dynamic performance could be obtained. It is not sri easy to obtain the optimum gain tuning of PID controllers in digital PWM control methods. Hybrid control methods which uses automatic tuning techniques after adding fuzzy control methods to traditional PID controllers are chosen to improve the dynamic performance of PID controller's. To demonstrate the practical significance and dynamic performance improvement of the results, some simulation and experimental results are presented.

  • Many hudraulic components have nonlinearities to some extent. These nonlinearities often cause the time delay, thus degrading the performance of the hydraulic control systems and making it difficult to modelthem. In this paper, a new vibration isolation control algorithm that eliminates the necessity of a sophiscated modeling of hydraulic system was proposed. The algotithm is a hybrid type control shecheme consisting of a linear controller and a hetero-synaptic neural network controller. Using this control scheme, simulations and experiments were performed for 1 DOF(Degree of freedom) and 2 DOF vibration isolation. The hybrid type control algorithm can isolate the base vibration signifcantly rather than linear control algorithm. And from the weights in hetero-synaptic neural network, we can get the 2nd equivalent differentialmodel of the hydraulic control system with on-line control operation. This equivalent model provides us with much information, such as stability and the characteristics of the control system.

  • We consider the stabilization problem for a class of networked control systems with neutral type of time delays. The neutral type of time-delays occur in controller-to-actuator and sensor-to-controller. The Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to represent a nonlinear system with neutral type of time-delays. The stabilization via state-feedback is first addressed, and delay-range-dependent stabilization conditions are proposed in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Finally, an application example will be given to show the merits and design a procedure of the proposed approach.
