  • This paper proposes enhanced single-phase pulse width modulation buck, boost, and buck-boost type ac-ac converters. The proposed converters, where input and output voltages share a common ground, require no isolated voltage sensor and have no leakage current problem. The commutation problem is solved with series-connected switching cell structures without using an additional RC snubber. In addition, with the use of the polarity of input voltage, switching patterns are determined so that the inductor currents can flow through switching devices during all operational modes. Two switches are always turned on during a half-period of the input voltage; thus, the switching loss is significantly reduced. Detailed analysis and experimental results are provided to verify the performance of the proposed converter.

  • Considerable research has been done on the issue of succession in family businesses. However the process of induction, of preparing the members of the next generation for joining the family business has not been examined in detail. This paper attempts to analyse the relevance of three critical factors - 'quality of relations', 'willingness of the inductee' and 'the ability to manage tensions harmoniously' - to the induction process and the progress of the business. It focuses on the Indian context, specifically in the Small and medium Enterprise (SME) area. Qualitative research has been carried out. The Case Study method is used and data has been gathered from two families (including two branches of one family), using frequent unstructured interviews, over a period of five years. It is concluded that positive impact on business, family and the inductee depends to a large extent on the quality of relations, willingness of the inductee and the ability of both the inductor and inductee to handle and manage the tensions. Thus the findings of the study extend current understanding about succession drivers to the specific context of eastern cultural and developing economy represented by the Indian family businesses in the small and medium enterprise sector.

  • When typical Z-source DC/AC inverter(ZSI) is operated in high voltage gain area, because of its high duty ratio, voltage and current stress in Z-network of typical ZSI are increased. This paper proposes a new switched trans ZSI(STZSI) with two switched trans cells which consist of one trans and two diodes. To confirm the operation performance of the proposed system, the PSIM simulation is performed for typical ZSI, switched inductor ZSI and the proposed STZSI. Voltage / current stress and transient state characteristics of each method are compared under the condition of DC input voltage 100[V] and output phase voltage 66[Vrms]. As a result, we confirmed that transient state of the proposed STZSI is short compared with the conventional ZSI because the high voltage gain is obtained using the same duty ratio, also a low duty ratio is required for the same output voltage. Finally, we could know the proposed system have low voltage and current stress in Z-network compared with the conventional ZSI.

  • An improved bridgeless interleaved boost power factor correction (PFC) rectifier to improve power efficiency and component utilization is proposed in this study. With combined conventional bridgeless PFC circuit and interleaved technology, the proposed rectifier consists of two interleaved and magnetic inter-coupling boost bridgeless converter cells. Each cell operates alternatively in the critical conduction mode, which can achieve the soft-switching characteristics of the switches and increase power capacity. Auxiliary blocking diodes are employed to eliminate undesired circulating loops and reduce current-sensing noise, which are among the serious drawbacks of a dual-boost PFC rectifier. Magnetic component utilization is improved by symmetrically coupling two inductors on a unique core, which can achieve independence from each other based on the auxiliary diodes. Through the interleaved approach, each switch can operate in the whole line cycle. A simple control scheme is employed in the circuit by using a conventional interleaved controller. The operation principle and theoretical analysis of the converter are presented. A 600 W experimental prototype is built to verify the theoretical analysis and feasibility of the proposed rectifier. System efficiency reaches 97.3% with low total harmonic distortion at full load.

  • Chua's circuit is a simple electronic network which exhibits a variety of bifurcation and attractors. The circuit consists of two capacitors, an inductor, a linear resistor, and a nonlinear resistor. In this paper, a transmitter and a receiver using two identical Chua's circuits are proposed and synchronizations and secure communication of a lossy equivalent transmission are investigated. Since the synchronization of the lossy equivalent transmission system is impossible by coupled synchronization, theory having both the drive-response and the coupled synchronization is proposed. The proposed method is synthesizing the desired information with the chaos circuit by adding the information signal to the chaos signal in the lossy equivalent transmission system.

  • This study presents a new interleaved three-level zero-voltage switching (ZVS) converter for high-voltage and high-current applications. Two circuit cells are operated with interleaved pulse-width modulation in the proposed converter to reduce the current ripple at the input and output sides, as well as to decrease the current rating of output inductors for high-load-current applications. Each circuit cell includes one half-bridge converter and one three-level converter at the primary side. At the secondary side, the transformer windings of two converters are connected in series to reduce the size of the output inductor or switching current in the output capacitor. Based on the three-level circuit topology, the voltage stress of power switches is clamped at $V_{in}/2$. Thus, MOSFETs with 500 V voltage rating can be used at 800 V input voltage converters. The output capacitance of the power switch and the leakage inductance (or external inductance) are resonant at the transition interval. Therefore, power switches can be turned on under ZVS. Finally, experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • In this paper, two lossless snubber cells are proposed to generalize high frequency converter with losslless snubber. The selecting of snubber cells, which generalize high frequency converters, are depended on converter topologies. The cells have a saturable inductor, LC resonant tank and two diodes. In the cells, the saturable inductors extremely reduce resonant energy in the LC resonant tank. By minimizing resonant energy, the converter, which applies snubber cells, can operate at high frequency. These cells are applied for Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost, Cuk, ZETA, and SEPIC to generalize converter which have lossless snubber. The boost type converter has been implemented, with 400 kHz switching frequency for 125 W load to verify the converter characteristics.

  • Renewable energy based on photovoltaic systems is beginning to play an important role to supply power to remote areas all over the world. Owing to the lower output voltage of photovoltaic arrays, high gain DC-DC converters with a high efficiency are required in practice. This paper presents a novel interleaved DC-DC boost converter with a high voltage gain, where the input terminal is interlaced in parallel and the output terminal is staggered in series (IPOSB). The IPOSB configuration can reduce input current ripples because two inductors are interlaced in parallel. The double output capacitors are charged in staggered parallel and discharged in series for the load. Therefore, IPOSB can attain a high step-up conversion and a lower output voltage ripple. In addtion, the output voltage can be automatically divided by two capacitors, without the need for extra sharing control methods. At the same time, the voltage stress of the power devices is lowered. The inrush current problem of capacitors is restrained by the inductor when compared with high gain converters with a switching-capacitor structure. The working principle and steady-state characteristics of the converter are analyzed in detail. The correctness of the theoretical analysis is verified by experimental results.

  • This paper presents design and operational characteristics of 150 MW pulse power system for high current pulse forming network to control trigger time. The system is composed of two capacitor bank modules. Each capacitor bank module consist of a trigger vacuum switch, 9k 33kJ capacitor, an energy dump circuit, a crowbar circuit and a pulse shaping inductor and is connected in parallel. It is controlled by trigger controller to select operational module and determine triggering time. Pspice simulation was conducted about determining parameters of components such as crowbar circuit, capacitor, pulse forming inductor, trigger vacuum switch and predicting results of experiment circuit. The result of the experiment was in good agreement with the result of the simulation. The various current shapes with 300~650 us pulse width is formed by sequential firing time control of capacitor bank module. The maximum current is about 40 kA during simultaneous triggering of two capacitor bank modules. The developed 150 MW pulse power system can be applied to high current pulse power system such as rock fragmentation power sources, Rail gun, Coil gun, nano-powers, high power microwave.

  • This paper presents the two-switch interleaved active clamp forward converter, which is mainly composed of two active clamp forward converters. Only two switches are required, and each one is the auxiliary switch for the other. So, the circuit complexity and cost are reduced and control is more simple. An additional resonant inductance is employed to achieve ZVS(Zero-Voltage-Switching) during the dead times. Interleaved output inductor currents diminish the voltage and current ripple. Accordingly, the smaller output filter and capacitors lower the converter volume. This research proposed the Two-switch interleaved Active Clamp Forward Converter characteristic. The principle of operation, feature and design considerations is illustrated and the validity of verified through the experiment with a 160[W] based experimental circuit.
