  • Maintenance monitoring of the tunnel which offers continuous data during and after tunneling has been applying to tunnels in order to meet the maintenance of tunnel and to confirm continuous security of the tunnel after tunneling. But, the maintenance monitoring of tunnel results for long period is not easy to find, and moreover, the rational analysis method on tunnel monitoring has not been established yet. In this study, the relationships between displacement and stress of the tunnel concrete lining using various analysis methods are compared with maintenance monitoring. The tunnel behavior were measured in the subway tunnel passing comparative soft the weathering and analyzed both security and mechanical characteristics of the tunnel concrete lining. Also, analyzed relationship between residual water pressure applied on tunnel design and one obtained by monitoring.

  • In this study, the relationships between the displacement and stress of the tunnel using various analysis methods were compared with monitoring results carried out during construction and maintenance monitoring. The behavior of tunnel were measured in the subway tunnel passing comparative soft the weathering and analyzed both security and mechanical characteristics of the tunnel lining. With the results of simplified monitoring observed in top heading and bench excavation tunnel, it is confirmed that the crown settlement is larger than the surface settlement. it is interesting to note that the crown settlement and the crown shotcrete lining stress are widely used monitoring items for the back analysis. It is analyzed that the residual water pressure applied in the drainage type tunnel is reasonable.

  • The introduction of geodetic methods of absolute displacement monitoring in tunnels has improved the value of the measurements significantly. By using this method, structurally controlled behavior and influences of an anisotropic rock mass can be determined and the excavation and support adjusted accordingly. In this study cases of tunnel monitoring in anisotropic/heterogeneous rock masses are analyzed, and various anisotrpic behavior of tunnel can be estimated. Because rock anisotropy and heterogeneity can have great influence on tunnel behavior, tunnel design considering rock anisotropy and heterogeneity is needed. Also under construction, feedback must be performed by using face mapping and monitoring to prevent over-deformation and tunnel collapse.

  • This study presents an IFC-based information model for standardized and integrated information management system of tunnel monitoring. Information items of tunnel monitoring were extracted from the Tunnel Design Standard of Ministry of Construction and Transportation. Then, the information items were compared with components of IFC 2x Edition3 model. Two main entities are added into the IFC model for generic representing of monitoring devices and data. IfcMonitoringElement which is composed of IfcMonitoringLogger and IfcMonitorinSensor is proposed to represent physical information of data loggers and sensors, and relationship between data logger and sensors. Besides, as an additional resource of IFC model, IfcMonitoringData is provided to express measured data from sensors and warning histories.

  • In order to determine the optimal number of monitoring points in single-track tunnel lining, this thesis compares and evaluates the results of two cases: when the tunnel lining is modeled into a simple beam form and then is applied to 1) the tunnel lining inverse analysis program, and to 2) the commercially-used program. The displacement and stress of specific tunnel lining cross-sections are determined by entering the load conditions into the commercially-used program for tunnel interpretations. In doing so, two cases were assumed: where a symmetrically-distributed load was acting upon the tunnel lining of a single-track tunnel and where an asymmetrically-distributed load was in action. By comparing the computed displacement with the stress and displacement determined by entering side numbers 3, 5, and 7 into the tunnel lining inverse analysis program, the optimal number of monitoring points is determined. From the results of the research, it can be inferred that the number of monitoring points needs to be at least 5 points, considering the efficiency of monitoring in practice and the loss-and-damage rate of tunnel monitoring.

  • The purpose of maintenance monitoring is to offer the objective and continuous data in order to be lasting security affirmation and best fitted maintenance of tunnel structure. Though recently the examples of maintenance monitoring which Is applied to tunnel are rapidly increasing, long-term measured monitoring actual results and rationally analysis method researches are wholly lacking. In this study, it is analyzed that the relationship of stress and reinforcement stress of concrete lining, i.e., last support materials of tunnel through regression analysis based on the monitoring result of the subway tunnel, which was accomplished the monitoring for long period, passing the weathering. Also, through the analysis of the stress and the safety of concrete lining, it is estimated that the frequency of maintenance monitoring and the in-situ application of the criteria value of management.

It is shown that the wireless sensor network which is composed of sensor, wireless communication module, and gateway system can be applied to tunnel monitoring system. Sensors included herein are acceleration transducers, fire-alarm sensors, water-level sensors, and magnetic contact sensors. It is also found that the wireless sensor network can deliver sensing data reliably by ad-hoc networking technology. The gateway system that can send the sensing data to server by CDMA (code division multiple access) is developed. Finally, monitoring system is constructed by web service technology, and it is observed that this system can monitor the present state of tunnel without difficulties. Furthermore, the above system provides an alternative to inspect and monitor the tunnel efficiently where the conventional wired system cannot be applied.

  • This paper proposes an integrated safety assessment method that can take multiple sources data into consideration based on a data fusion approach. Data cleaning using the Kalman filter method (KF) was conducted first for monitoring data from each sensor. The inclination data from the four tilt sensors of the same monitoring section have been associated to synchronize in time. Secondly, the finite element method (FEM) model was established to physically correlate the external forces with various structural responses of the shield tunnel, including the measured inclination. Response surface method (RSM) was adopted to express the relationship between external forces and the structural responses. Then, the external forces were updated based on the in situ monitoring data from tilt sensors using the extended Kalman filter method (EKF). Finally, mechanics parameters of the tunnel lining were estimated based on the updated data to make an integrated safety assessment. An application example of the proposed method was presented for an urban tunnel during a nearby deep excavation with multiple source monitoring plans. The change of tunnel convergence, bolt stress and segment internal forces can also be calculated based on the real time deformation monitoring of the shield tunnel. The proposed method was verified by predicting the data using the other three sensors in the same section. The correlation among different monitoring data has been discussed before the conclusion was drawn.
