Development of Open Tubular Capillary Columns for Ion Chromatography (이온 크로마토그래피용 Open Tubular Capillary 컬럼의 개발)

  • In this study, open tubular capillary columns for ion charomatography were developed to analyze trace amount of ions in samples. When small I,D. capillary column length is 1.0~5.0 m. The capillary columns were made using fused silica capillary(I.D:50㎛) and DMEOHA latex particles. The new conductivity cell and suppressor were also developed and made for capillary column ion chromatography. When several anions(fluoride, nitrite, nitale,chlorate,phosphte, sulfate) were analyzed using these capillary columns. reproducible and good chromatograms were obtained.

  • In this study, we have expanded the applicability of the pre-established generalized preparation protocol to MIPs with a neutral template. The ($4S,5R$hyl-5-phenyl-2-oxazolidinone MIP layer was formed inside a pretreated and silanized fused silica capillary, and its chiral separation performance was examined. Optimization of chiral separation was also carried out. This is the very first report of somewhat successful application of the generalized preparation protocol to a MIP with a genuine neutral template.

  • Nearly monodisperse spherical silica particles, 200~300 nm in diameter, were produced via a dry route for the first time through a two-stage hydrolysis of $SiCl_4$ vapor. In the first stage, the $SiCl_4$ was partially hydrolyzed in a batch reactor at $150^{\circ}C$ to form nearly monodisperse silicon oxychloride particles. In the second stage, the oxychlorides were hydrolyzed further in a tubular reactor to have produced silica with the morphology and size nearly conserved.

  • Diphenyl amine (DPA) was polymerized inside the channels of the mesoporous silica (MCM-41). MCM-41 (C) and MCM-41 (D) were prepared with cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and dodecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB), respectively and used as hosts. Initially, the self assembly of DPA inside the pores of MCM-41 was made in ${\beta}$-naphthalene sulfonic acid (NSA) medium and subsequently poly (diphenylamine), PDPA was formed by oxidative polymerization. $N_2$ adsorption-desorption measurements of PDPA loaded MCM-41 (C) and MCM-41 (D) show variations in pore volume and surface area between them. A tubular form of poly (diphenylamine), PDPA was envisaged to form in the pores of MCM-41 and supported by high resolution transmission microscopy. The presence of PDPA inside the channel of MCM-41 was further confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction.

Axial compression behavior of circular recycled concrete-filled steel tubular short columns reinforced by silica fume and steel fiber

  • This paper presents an experimental work for short circular steel tube columns filled with normal concrete (NAC), recycled aggregate concrete (RAC), and RAC with silica fume and steel fiber. Ten specimens were tested under axial compression to research the effect of silica fume and steel fiber volume percentage on the behavior of recycled aggregate concrete-filled steel tube columns (RACFST). The failure modes, ultimate loads and axial load- strain relationships are presented. The test results indicate that silica fume and steel fiber would not change the failure mode of the RACFST column, but can increase the mechanical performances of the RACFST column because of the filling effect and pozzolanic action of silica fume and the confinement effect of steel fiber. The ultimate load, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of RACFST columns can exceed that of corresponding natural aggregate concrete-filled steel tube (NACFST) column. Design formulas EC4 for the load capacity NACFST and RACFST columns are proposed, and the predictions agree well with the experimental results from this study.

  • Some open tubular (OT) molecule imprinted polymer (MIP) silica capillary columns with templates of camphor derivatives such as 10-camphorsulfonic acid (10-CSA), 10-camphorsulfonamide (10-CS) and camphor-p-tosyl hydrazone (CTH) have been successfully prepared by the prior generalized preparation protocol. The three MIP thin layers of different templates showed quite different morphologies. The chiral selectivity of each MIP column for the template enantiomers was optimized by changing eluent composition and pH. The optimization conditions were found to be different for the three MIPs. This work suggests prospective successful extension of the generalized preparation protocol for OT-MIP silica capillary columns toward templates of a variety of chemical groups.

  • Methane steam reforming (MSR) reaction for hydrogen production was studied in a membrane reactor (MR) using two tubular membranes, one Pd-based and one of porous alumina. A higher methane conversion than the thermodynamic equilibrium for a traditional reactor (TR) was achieved using MRs. The experimental temperature range was 350-500$^{\circ}C$; no sweep-gas was employed during reaction tests to avoid its back-permeation through the membrane and the steam/methane molar feed ratio (m) varied in the range 3.5-5.9. The best results (the difference between the MR conversion and the thermodynamic equilibrium was of about 7%) were achieved with the alumina membrane, working with the highest steam/methane ratio and at 450$^{\circ}C$. Silica membranes prepared at KRICT laboratories were characterized with permeation tests on single gases (N$_2$, H$_2$ and CH$_4$). These membranes are suited for H$_2$ separation at high temperature.

  • Several "Napseok" mines are distribute in the Miryang area where the volcanic rocks are hydrothermally altered. The "Napseok" are pyrophyllite and dickite, with a small amount of silicates such as quartz, illite, tosudite and dumortierite. Other associated minerals are oxides, hydroxides, sulfides, sulfates and phosphates. Pyrophyllite which occurs as 2M polytype exhibits that the basal spacing increases due to dehydroxylation at 750${\circ}C$. Halloysite shows tubular forms. Wavellite is precipitated in fissures during the latest stage of the hydrothermal alteration process. Five mineral zones, that is pyrophyllite-deckite, illite, halloysite, silica, and albite-chlorite zones, are recognized with decreasing alteration degree. Clay minerals were formed by leaching of Si and alkali ions fron the country rocks, considering mineral assemblages, pyrophyllite polytype and thermodynamical data reported in the literature, temperatures of formation of main clay deposits are assumed to be 270 to 350${\circ}C$.
