A plenoptic optical system for microscopy comprises an objective lens, tube lens, microlens array (MLA), and an image sensor. Numerical aperture (NA) matching between the tube lens and MLA is used for optimal performance. This paper extends performance predictions from NA matching to unmatching cases and introduces a computational technique for plenoptic configurations using optical analysis software. Validation by fabricating and experimenting with two sample systems at 10× and 20× magnifications resulted in predicted spatial resolutions of 12.5 ㎛ and 6.2 ㎛ and depth of field (DOF) values of 530 ㎛ and 88 ㎛, respectively. The simulation showed resolutions of 11.5 ㎛ and 5.8 ㎛, with DOF values of 510 ㎛ and 70 ㎛, while experiments confirmed predictions with resolutions of 11.1 ㎛ and 5.8 ㎛ and DOF values of 470 ㎛ and 70 ㎛. Both formula-based prediction and simulations yielded similar results to experiments that were suitable for system design. However, regarding DOF values, simulations were closer to experimental values in accuracy, recommending reliance on simulation-based predictions before fabrication.

Long $TiO_2$ nanotube (NT) arrays, prepared by electrochemical anodization of Ti foils, have been utilized as dye-adsorbing electrodes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). By anodizing for 1-24 hr and subsequent annealing, highly crystallized and tightly-adhered NT arrays were tailored to 11-150 ${\mu}m$ lengths, ~90 nm innerpore diameter and ~30 nm wall thickness. I-V curves revealed that the photovoltaic conversion efficiency (${\eta}$) was proportional to the NT length up to 36 ${\mu}m$. Beyond this length, the ) was proportional to the NT length up to ${\eta}$ was still steadily increased, though at a much lower rate. For example, an ${\eta}$ of 5.05% at 36 ${\mu}m$ was increased to 6.18% at 150 ${\mu}m$. Transient photoelectron spectroscopic analyses indicated that NT array-based DSCs revealed considerably higher electron diffusion coefficient ($D_e$) and life time (${\tau}_e$) than those with $TiO_2$ nanoparticles (NP). Moreover, the electron diffusion lengths ($L_e$) of the photo-injected electrons were considerably larger than the corresponding NT lengths in all the cases, suggesting that electron transport in NT arrays is highly efficient, regardless of tube length.

The present study investigates heat/mass transfer for flow through perforated plates for application to combustor wall and turbine blade film cooling. The experiments are conducted for hole length to diameter ratios of 0.68 to 1.5, for hole pitch-to-diameter ratios of 1.5 and 3.0, for gap distance between two parallel perforated plates of 1 to 3 hole diameters, and for Reynolds numbers of 60 to 13, 700. Local heat/mass transfer coefficients near and inside the cooling holes are obtained using a naphthalene sublimation technique. Detailed knowledge of the local transfer coefficients is essential to analyze thermal stress in turbine components. The results indicate that the heat/mass transfer coefficients inside the hole surface vary significantly due to flow separation and reattachment. The transfer coefficient near the reattachment point is about four and half times that for a fully developed circular tube flow. The heat/mass transfer coefficient on the leeward surface has the same order as that on the windward surface because of a strong recirculation flow between neighboring jets from the array of holes. For flow through two perforated plate layers, the transfer coefficients on the target surface (windward surface of the second wall) affected by the gap spacing are approximately three to four times higher than that with a single layer.
We present a new point-diffraction interferometer, which has been devised for the three-dimensional profile measurement of light scattering rough surfaces. The interferometer system has multiple sources of two-point-diffraction and a CCD camera composed of an array of two-dimensional photodetectors. Each diffraction source is an independent two-point-diffraction interferometer made of a pair of single-mode optical fibers, which are housed in a ceramic ferrule to emit two spherical wave fronts by means of diffraction at their free ends. The two spherical wave fronts then interfere with each other and subsequently generate a unique fringe pattern on the test surface. A He-Ne source provides coherent light to the two fibers through a 2${\times}$l optical coupler, and one of the fibers is elongated by use of a piezoelectric tube to produce phase shifting. The xyz coordinates of the target surface are determined by fitting the measured phase data into a global model of multilateration. Measurement has been performed for the warpage inspection of chip scale packages (CSPs) that are tape-mounted on ball grid arrays (BGAs) and backside profile of a silicon wafer in the middle of integrated-circuit fabrication process. When a diagonal profile is measured across the wafer, the maximum discrepancy turns out to be 5.6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with a standard deviation of 1.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.
Because of using computer system in the field of medical radiology, many artifacts which can not be seen in film/screen system are being created, especially ghosting artifacts. This artifacts could be yielded by taking advantage of a flat panel Thin-Film Transistor array detector. Ghosting artifacts can be rarely seen in clinical practice when an image that has a high-contrast object within a region of high exposure is quickly followed by another image that puts the high-contrast ghosting image in an area of lower radiation exposure. In this experiment, the ghosting artifacts were minimized for approximately 3 minutes with the unaided eye and almost disappeared for 6 minutes quantitatively between exposures. Moreover, the artifacts were influenced by more tube voltage than current and those depended not upon the number of readout cycles, but upon time.

A fuel assembly consists of five major components, i.e., a top end piece (TEP), a bottom end piece (BEP), spacer grids (SGs), guide tubes (GTs) and an instrumentation tube (IT); in addition, it also includes fuel rods (FRs). The TEP/BEP should satisfy stress intensity limits according to the conditions A and B of ASME, Section III, Division 1-Subsection NB. In a dual-cooled fuel assembly, the array and position of fuel rods are different from those in a conventional PWR fuel assembly; these changes are necessary for achieving power uprating. The flow plates of the TEP and BEP have to be modified accordingly. The pattern and shape of the flow holes were newly designed. To verify the strength compatibility, the Tresca stress limit according to the ASME code was investigated in the case of an axial load of 22.241 kN. In this paper, the stress linearization procedure for strength evaluation of a newly designed TEP is presented.

The wake-induced vibration and proximity-induced vibration of two interfering circular cylinders in tandem are investigated experimentally, using an elastically supported cylinder and a fixed cylinder in uniform crossflow. Dynamic responses and flow periodicity in wake are measured to investigate the effect of system parameters on aerodynamic instability. The parameters include the free stream wind velocity and the position of two interfering circular cylinders. The oscillating behavior of the amplitude of the elastically supported cylinder is changed by varying the position, the relative gap spacing between two interfering circular cylinders and the reduced velocities. In small gap spacing between the elastically supported cylinder located to upstream and the circular cylinder fixed to downstream, the fluidelastic instability is founded. The vibration amplitude decreases notably as gap spacing between two interfering circular cylinders becomes large. The dynamic behavior at g/D-4.0 is similar to that of the single circular cylinder.
In the case of operating steam generators for long periods in nuclear power plants, sludge is accumulated inside the steam generator. This phenomenon could adversely affect the operation of the steam generator. This paper is about the design of a sludge washing apparatus which can remove the sludge efficiently and the control methods of the apparatus. In this paper, to design the sludge washing apparatus, firstly, we design nozzles for spraying high-pressure water through applying mathematical models and lab tests. Secondly, we establish the mathematical theory for performance parameters required to drive the sludge washing apparatus. Thirdly, we design physical structures of the apparatus based on the established performance parameters. Finally, we present the control methods of the apparatus. The sludge washing apparatus presented in this paper moves along the walls of the steam generator according to cracks in the tube array, and spray the high pressure water to remove the sludge. By this way, a relatively large amount of sludge formed in the inner surfaces can be washed very effectively.

UFFO Burst Alert & Trigger telescope (UBAT) is one of major instruments of UFFO-Pathfinder. The UBAT aims at 10 arcmin resolution localization of Gamma Ray Bursts with X-ray coded mask technique. It has $400mm{\times}400mm$ coded mask aperture, hopper, shielding and detector module with effective area of $191cm^2$. The detector module consists of an assembly of 36 64-ch MAPMTs and $25mm{\times}25mm$ pixellated YSO crystal array, and associated analog and digital electronics of about 2500 channels. We performed a vibration test using a dummy MAPMT with the detector module structure to measure the indused stress applied onto the MAPMT. We designed a sub-structure on the detector module to avoid the resonance that would otherwise deforms the detector module structure. A finite element analysis confirms the reduction of the load acceleration down to 12g. The experimental results are to be reported. Consequently, it proves that the MAPMT arrays of the flight UBAT detector module structure would survive in the space launch environment.
