An elementary particle of bottom ash is similar to fine sand. so which expected from replace expensive sand. Especially, If using for improvement of soft ground, It will need of study about strength, permeability and environment of the bottom ash. In this study, the bottom ash operate of physical quality, direct shear test and triaxial compression test so analyze and compare with standard sand.
PURPOSES : In Korea, most designs of pavement had been mainly performed by considering CBR of granular materials before KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) and 86 AASHTO design method were introduced. Since then, the trend of the pavement designs gradually have moved to using mechanical characteristics throughout the resilient modulus based on the test results up to recently. In this study, we should like to research the mechanical characteristics of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. METHODS : The kinds of materials were tested; coarse grained subbase materials, refining aggregates base materials and recycled aggregates. RESULTS : The present study aims to figure out the resilient modulus of paving materials containing Recycled aggregates through the cyclic loading triaxial compression tests. CONCLUSIONS : The test results revealed that the engineering properties of the recycled aggregates were more excellent than the those of others.
Shear wave velocities of three selected sandy soils subject to drained triaxial compression test were continuously measured using the bender elements. The shear wave velocity during isotropic compression, as widely recognized, increased as confining pressure increased and they were correlated well. However, during drained shearing, the mean effective stress could no further provide a suitable correlation. The shear wave velocity during this stage was almost constant with respect to the mean effective stress. The vertical stress was found to be more favorable at this stage (since confining stress was kept constant). When sample was attained its peak stress, the shear wave velocity reduced and deviated from the previously existed trend line. This was probably caused by the non-uniformity induced by the formation of shear band. Subsequently, void ratios computed based on external measurements could not provide reasonable fitting to the initial stage of post-peak shear wave velocity. At very large strain levels after shear band formation, the digital images revealed that sample may internally re-arrange itself to be in a more uniform loose stage. This final stage void ratio estimated based on the proposed correlation derived during pre-peak state was close to the value of the maximum void ratio.

The hazard warning levels are necessary for the rational design and safety construction of underground space, as mountain and urban tunnel. Sakurai provided the hazard warning levels for assessing the stability of tunnels using the critical strain of rock mass, which is defined as a ratio between uni-axial compressive strength and the Young's modulus. The concept of critical strain guidelines is introduced in this study for the assessment of tunnel safety during excavation. Moreover, in this paper, the critical strain properties of sedimentary rock in Korea has investigated and analysed in detail by Lab. test, as the uniaxial and triaxial compression tests. Finally, critical strain properties of sedimentary rock on uniaxial and triaxial stress condition is discussed the relationship of failure strain values, uniaxial and triaxial compression strengths, confining pressure and Young's modulus.
A series of one-dimensional consolidation tests and triaxial creep tests were performed on Nansha clays, which are interactive marine and terrestrial deposits, to investigate their time-dependent behaviour. Based on experimental observations of oedometer tests, normally consolidated soils exhibit larger secondary compression than overconsolidated soils; the secondary consolidation coefficient ($C_{\alpha}$) generally gets the maximum value as load approaches the preconsolidation pressure. The postsurcharge secondary consolidation coefficient ($C_{\alpha}$') is significantly less than $C_{\alpha}$. The observed secondary compression behaviour is consistent with the $C_{\alpha}/C_c$ concept, regardless of surcharging. The $C_{\alpha}/C_c$ ratio is a constant that is applicable to the recompression and compression ranges. Compared with the stage-loading test, the single-loading oedometer test can evaluate the entire process of secondary compression; $C_{\alpha}$ varies significantly with time and is larger than the $C_{\alpha}$ obtained from the stage-loading test. Based on experimental observations of triaxial creep tests, the creep for the drained state differs from the creep for the undrained state. The behaviour can be predicted by a characteristic relationship among axial strain rate, deviator stress level and time.

The effect of loading speed on soil failure was studied by using a high speed triaxial compression test. Tests were conducted at 0.35-6.2m/s loading speed to compress soil specimens of sandy loam at different moisture contents. The axial stress at fracture increased with increase in loading speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed up to certain critical speeds, however they decreased as the speed increased further. Experiments were also conducted in the field of sandy loam soil with the vibrating tillage tool. Tests were done at 0.33-0.85m/s tractor speed oscillating frequency 13.7hz and oscillating amplitude 59mm. The maximum oscillating velocity of tillage tool was 2.5m/s. It was observed that for the oscillating operation, initially draft slightly increased with increase in forward speed and then it decreased .For the non-oscillating operation, draft increased continuously with increase in forward speed. Approach of studying soil failure in the laboratory test can be related to the field experiments.

Undrained cyclic triaxial compression tests were performed on Saemangeum dredged sand to evaluate factors affecting liquefaction strength and liquefaction behaviour characteristics. The results of these tests show that cyclic liquefaction can occur not only very loose sand(Relative density is 30%) but also dense sand(Relative density is 70%). To evaluate effect of the over consolidation ratio on the liquefaction strength, a series of undrained cyclic triaxial compression test was peformed, and the result of this test showed that the liquefaction of this test showed that the liquefaction strength of Saemangeum dredged sand approximately increased to square root of over consolidation ratio in the range of O.C.R value of 1.0 to 4.0. In the anisotropically consolidated sample tests, the liquefaction strength is increased by increasing the effective consolidation ratio.

After clay particles have been sediment isotropically, the clay deposits have been consolidated under $K_0$-stress system. Therefore, in order to predict the behavior in-situ of normally consolidated clays, the laboratory test should be enforced under $K_0$-stress system and should obtain the characteristics of normally consolidated clays. And relationship of stress-strain on clay is effected on not only method of consolidation but also characteristic of visco-plastic behavior. Saturated clay is effected more this trend. So, rate of strain is considered to understand exact stress-strain relationship. In this study, the series of undrained triaxial compression tests were preformed on remolded specimens which was made by slurry of clay, consolidated under $K_0$-stress systems. And the undrained triaxial compression test were preformed to examine behavior of stress-strain relationship due to rate of shear strain relationship due to rate of shear strain.

The lower ground of structure, in which the strip loads, such as earth dams and embankments , are signiificantly working on , is required to be interpreted as a state of plane strain where the strain of intermediated principal stress direction is put '0' . The plane strain state is frquently observed in actural soil engineering case. For those case, drained stress-strain and strength behavior of Iksan weathered granite soil prepared in cubical specimens with cross-anisotropic fabric was studied by conventional triaxial compression, plane strain and cubial triaxial tests with independent control of the three principal stress. All specimens were loaded under conditions of principl stress directions fixed and aligned with the directions of the material axes. As a result of research , when a ground condition is analyzed under plane strain state, the shear strength obtained from the conventional triaxial compression test can be understimated.

There are loss of lives and properties in many areas of the basin of the Nak-Dong river by the unusual weather and the localized heavy rain recently, and many difficulties of levee construction for prevention of disasters by acquisition of material and expensive transportation. In this research, The factors and causes which affect the strength through laboratory tests about the cemented sand that is mixed a few portland cement and sand of Nak-Dong river bed was researched closely. For providing the fundamental data which is needed in design and analysis of levee material, the compaction test and the standard triaxial compression test etc was conducted., analyzed compression strength and characteristic of stress-strain behavior in which the influence of cement content.
