When a secondary gaseous flow is injected vertically into a supersonic flow through circular nozzle, a complicated structure of flow field is produced around the injection area. The interaction between the two streams produces a strong bow shock wane on the upstream side of the side-jet. The results show that bow shock wave and turbulent boundary layer interaction induces the boundary layer separation in front of the side-jet. This study is to analyze the structure of flow fields and distribution of surface pressure on the flat plate according to total pressure ratio using a supersonic cold-flow system and also to study the control force of affected side-jet. The nozzle of main flow was designed to have Mach 2.88 at the exit. The injector has a sonic nozzle with 4mm diameter at the exit of the side-jet. In experiments, The oil flow visualization using a silicone oil and ink was conducted in order to analyze the structure of flow fields around the side-jet. The flow fields are visualized using the schlieren method. In this study, a computational fluid dynamic solution is also compared with experimental results.

Gain-guided broad-area single quantum well separate confinement heterostructure diode lasers have been fabricated from structures grown by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy. The active layer of the epi-structure is InGaAs emitting 962-965nm and the guiding layer GaAs. The channel width is fixed to 150${\mu}$m and the cavity length varys within the range of 300~800${\mu}$m. For uncoated LD's, the output power of 0.7W has been obtaained at a pulsed current level of 2A, which results about 60% external quantum efficiency. The threshold current density is 200A/cm$^{2}$ for the cavity lengths of 800.mu.m LD's. The stain effect upon the transparent current density has been observed. The internal quantum efficiency is expected to be 88% and the internal loss to be 18$cm^{-1}$. The beam divergence has been measured to be 7$^{\circ}$to lateral and 40$^{\circ}$to transverse direction. finally, 1.2W continuous-wave output power has been obtained at a current level of 2A for AR/HR coated LD's die-bonded on Cu heat-sink and cooled by TEC.
The complex, unsteady, self-sustained pressure oscillations induced by supersonic flow past a rectangular cavity is investigated using numerical simulations. The present numerical study is performed using a parallel, multiblock solver for the two-dimensional, compressible NavierStokes equations. Open cavities with length-to-depth (L / D) ratio in the range 0.5 - 3.3 are considered. This paper sheds light on the cavity physics, cavity oscillatory mechanism, and the organisation of vortical structures inside the cavity. The vortex shedding phenomenon, the shear layer impingement event at the aft wall and the movement of the acoustic/compression wave within the cavity are well predicted. The vortical structures· and the source of the acoustic disturbances are found to be located near the aft wall of the cavity. With the increase in the cavity length, strong recompression of the flow near the aft wall leading to a sudden jump in the cavity form drag is observed. The estimated cavity tones are in good agreement with the available semiempirical relation. Multiple peaks are noticed in deep and long cavities. For the present freestream Mach number 1.71, it is observed that around L/D=2.0, the cavity oscillatory mechanism changes from the transverse to longitudinal oscillatory mode. The effects of this transition on various fluid dynamics and acoustic properties are also discussed.
In this paper, a comprehensive review of nanostructures that exhibit piezoelectric behavior on all mechanical, buckling, vibrational, thermal and electrical properties is presented. It is firstly explained vast application of materials with their piezoelectric property and also introduction of other properties. Initially, more application of material which have piezoelectric property is introduced. Zinc oxide (ZnO), boron nitride (BN) and gallium nitride (GaN) respectively, are more application of piezoelectric materials. The nonlocal elasticity theory and piezoelectric constitutive relations are demonstrated to evaluate problems and analyses. Three different approaches consisting of atomistic modeling, continuum modeling and nano-scale continuum modeling in the investigation atomistic simulation of piezoelectric nanostructures are explained. Focusing on piezoelectric behavior, investigation of analyses is performed on fields of surface and small scale effects, buckling, vibration and wave propagation. Different investigations are available in literature focusing on the synthesis, applications and mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric nanostructures. In the study of vibration behavior, researches are studied on fields of linear and nonlinear, longitudinal and transverse, free and forced vibrations. This paper is intended to provide an introduction of the development of the piezoelectric nanostructures. The key issue is a very good understanding of mechanical and electrical behaviors and characteristics of piezoelectric structures to employ in electromechanical systems.

Piezoelectric sensor-based health monitoring technique using a two-step support vector machine (SYM) classifier is discussed for damage identification of a railroad track. An active sensing system composed of two PZT patches was investigated in conjunction with both impedance and guided wave propagation methods to detect two kinds of damage of the railroad track (one is a hole damage of 0.5cm in diameter at web section and the other is a transverse cut damage of 7.5cm in length and 0.5cm in depth at head section). Two damage-sensitive features were extracted one by one from each method; a) feature I: root mean square deviations (RMSD) of impedance signatures and b) feature II: wavelet coefficients for $A_0$ mode of guided waves. By defining damage indices from those damage-sensitive features, a two-dimensional damage feature (2-D DF) space was made. In order to minimize a false-positive indication of the current active sensing system, a two-step SYM classifier was applied to the 2-D DF space. As a result, optimal separable hyper-planes were successfully established by the two-step SYM classifier: Damage detection was accomplished by the first step-SYM, and damage classification was also carried out by the second step-SYM. Finally, the applicability of the proposed two-step SYM classifier has been verified by thirty test patterns.
To investigate dimensional responses of wood under dynamic temperature condition, poplar (populous euramericana Cv.) specimens, 20 mm in radial (R) and tangential (T) directions with two thicknesses of 4 and 10 mm along the grain, were exposed to cyclic temperature changes in square wave between $25^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$ at 60% relative humidity (RH) for three different cycling periods of 6 h, 12 h and 24 h. R and T dimensional changes measured during the cycling gave the following results: 1) Transverse dimensional changes of the specimens were generally square but at an opposite phase and lagged behind the imposed temperature changes. The phase lag was inversely correlated with cycling period, but positively related to specimen thickness, while the response amplitude was directly proportional to cycling period, but in a negative correlation with specimen thickness. 2) The specimens showed swelling hysteresis behavior. The heat shrinkage coefficient (HSC) became greater as cycling period increased or specimen thickness decreased. 3) Dimensional changes of the specimens produced deformation accumulation during repeated adsorption and desorption. The deformation accumulating ratio decreased with an increase in cycling period and specimen thickness. 4) Wood suffered 1.5 times as many dimensional changes per unit temperature variation as per unit humidity variation, and this deformation behaved even more seriously under static condition.
An edge tone is the discrete tone or narrow-band sound produced by an oscillating free shear layer, impinging on a rigid surface. In this paper, we present a 2-D edge tone to predict the frequency characteristics of the discrete oscillations of a jet-edge feedback cycle, using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method (FDLBM). We use a modified version of the lattice BGK compressible fluid model, adding an additional term and allowing for longer time increments, compared to a conventional FDLBM, and also use a boundary fitted coordinates system. The jet is chosen long enough in order to guarantee the parabolic velocity profile of the jet at the outlet, and the edge consists of a wedge with an angle of ${\alpha}$ = 23. At a stand-off distance, the edge is inserted along the centerline of the jet, and a sinuous instability wave, with real frequency, is assumed to be created in the vicinity of the nozzle and propagates towards the downstream. We have succeeded in capturing very small pressure fluctuations, resulting from periodical oscillations of a jet around the edge. The pressure fluctuations propagate with the speed of sound. Its interaction with the wedge produces an non-rotational feedback field, which, near the nozzle exit, is a periodic transverse flow, producing the singularities at the nozzle lips.
Impact pressure due to sloshing is of great concern for the ship owners, designers and builders of the LNG carriers regarding the safety of LNG containment system and hull structure. Sloshing of LNG in partially filled tank has been an active area of research with numerous experimental and numerical investigations over the past decade. In order to accurately predict the sloshing impact load, a new numerical method was developed for accurate resolution of violent sloshing flow inside a three-dimensional LNG tank including wave breaking, jet formation, gas entrapping and liquid-gas interaction. The sloshing flow inside a membrane-type LNG tank is simulated numerically using the Finite-Analytic Navier-Stokes (FANS) method. The governing equations for two-phase air and water flows are formulated in curvilinear coordinate system and discretized using the finite-analytic method on a non-staggered grid. Simulations were performed for LNG tank in transverse and longitudinal motions including horizontal, vertical, and rotational motions. The predicted impact pressures were compared with the corresponding experimental data. The validation results clearly illustrate the capability of the present two-phase FANS method for accurate prediction of impact pressure in sloshing LNG tank including violent free surface motion, three-dimensional instability and air trapping effects.

Near-field properties of light emanated from a subwavelength double slit of finite length in a thin metal film, which is essential for understanding fundamental physical mechanisms for near-field optical beam manipulations and various potential nanophotonic device applications, is investigated by using a three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method. Near-field intensity distribution along the propagation direction of light after passing through the slit has been obtained from the phase relation of transverse electric and magnetic fields and the wave impedance. It is found that the near field of emerged light from the both slits is evanescent, that is consistent with conventional surface plasmon localization near the metal surface. Due to the finite of the slit, the amplitude of this evanescent field does not monotonically approach to than of the infinite slit as the slit length increases, i.e. the near-field of the longer slit along the center line can be weaker than that of the shorter one.
Prediction of the characteristics of both in-plane and out-of-plane elastic waves within conducting nanoplates in the presence of bidirectionally in-plane magnetic fields is of interest. Using Lorentz's formulas and nonlocal continuum theory of Eringen, the nonlocal elastic version of the equations of motion is obtained. The frequencies as well as the corresponding phase and group velocities pertinent to the in-plane and out-of-plane waves are analytically evaluated. The roles of the strength of in-plane magnetic field, wavenumber, wave direction, nanoplate's thickness, and small-scale parameter on characteristics of waves are discussed. The obtained results show that the in-plane frequencies commonly grow with the in-plane magnetic field. However, the transmissibility of the out-of-plane waves rigorously depends on the magnetic field strength, direction of the propagated transverse waves, small-scale parameter, and thickness of the nanoplate. The criterion for safe transferring of the out-of-plane waves through the conducting nanoplate immersed in a bidirectional magnetic field is also explained and discussed.
