  • Our research team proposed a flux-offset type fault current limiter as a new limiter. The flux-offset type fault current limiter uses a fault current limit technology based on the flux offset principle of the primary and secondary windings of a transformer. Stable fault current limit characteristics were achieved through a preliminary study. However, it was discovered that the initial fault current was not limited. Therefore, in this paper, a high-speed interrupter and a superconducting element were separately applied to the secondary winding of the flux-offset type fault current limiter and the operating characteristics were comparatively analyzed. In the experiment, when the superconducting element was applied to the secondary winding of the transformer, the initial fault current was limited while the limitation in the operation time was further shortened.

  • An asymmetric half-bridge is one of the most promising topology in low-power application because of its small number of components and inherent zero-voltage switching capability. However, when it is designed taking into a hold-up time, it has large transformer offset current and small transformer turns-ratio, which severely decreases the total efficiency of s converter. In this paper, a new boost-integrated asymmetric half-bridge converter is proposed to solve these problems. The integrated boost converter compensates the hold-up time, thus facilitating optimal design in nominal state. As a result, the proposed converter can achieve high efficiency in nominal state. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter, an experiment is conducted using a 250-400 V input and 45 V/3.3 A output prototype.

  • Since PV PCS uses output current sensor for ac output current control, the sensor's sensing value includes unnecessary offset inevitably. If PV inverter is controlled by the included offset value, it's output current will generate DC offset. The DC offset of output current for trans-less PV inverter is fatal to grid, which results in saturating grid side transformer. Usually DSP controller of PV inverter reads several times sensing value during initial operation and, finally, it's average value is used for offset calibration. However, if temperature changes, the offset changes, too. And also, the switch device is not ideal, both each switching element of the voltage drop difference and on & off time delay difference generate DC offset. Thus, to compensate for deadtime and the switch voltage drop, feedback control by output current DC offset should be provided to compensate additional distortion of the output current. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed through PSIM simulation.

  • In this paper was proposed a flux offset-type fault current limiter as means of reducing fault currents. To secure the operation reliability of a flux offset-type fault current limiter, constructed a simulation system to analyze its operation characteristics by generating a double line-to-line fault. According to the test results, the system performed stably without any impedance. However, when an accident occurred, the flux-offset of magnetic was not occurred. Because of this, any impedance occurred at circuit. It was confirmed that the impedance was low and fast to limit the fault current. At this time, the fault current limited rate was about 95%.

In this paper we propose new algorithm where two identical forward and reverse sensors are used to calculate the offset in real time. As a result the offset is not correlated with temperature change. The proposed algorithm is verified through PSIM simulation for validity.

  • This paper proposes DC offset current compensation method of transformerless fuel cell/PV PCS. DC offset current is generated by the unbalanced internal resistance of the switching devices in full bridge topology. The other cause is the sensitivity of the current sensor, which is lower than DSP in resolution. If power converter system has these causes, the AC output current in the inverter will generate the DC offset. In case of transformerless grid-connected inverter system, DC offset current is fatal to grid-side, which results in saturating grid side transformer. Several simulation results show the difficulties of detecting DC offset current. Detecting DC offset current method consists of the differential amplifiers and PWM is compensated by the output of the Op amp circuit with integrator controller. PSIM simulation verifies that the proposed method is simpler and more effective than using low resolution current sensor alone.

  • An improved version of current-regulated delta modulator (CRDM) is investigated for the output cunent control of v voltage-source inverters that have transformer-coupled series resonant load and are operated at the resonant frequency. Conventional CRDM has not only CUlTent offset problem but also transformer flux saturation problem when i it is applied to induction heating systems that have transformel-coupled loads. To cope with these problems, the effect of flux saturation is analysed, and simple method to av이d the problem is proposed. And integral type of CRDM is a adopted to remove the cunent offset. The boundaries of integrator gain for stable operation is calculated using the c concept of sliding mode controL The validity of proposed strategy is vel퍼ed through simulations and prototype e experiments.

  • This paper describes the synergism of Artificial Neural Network and Fuzzy Logic based approach to improve the reliability of transformer differential protection, the conventional transformer differential protection commonly used a harmonic restraint principle to prevent a tripping from inrush current during initial transformer´s energization but such a principle can not performs the best optimization on tripping time. Furthermore, in some cases there may be false operation such as during CT saturation, high DC offset or harmonic containing in the line. Therefore an artificial neural network and fuzzy logic has been proposed to improve reliability of the transformer protection relay. By using EMTP-ATP the power transformer is modeled, all currents flowing ...

  • A balanced forward-flyback converter for high efficiency and high power factor using a foward and flyback converter topologies is proposed in this paper. The conventional AC/DC flyback converter can achieve a good power factor but it has the high offset current through the transformer magnetizing inductor, which results in a large core loss and low power conversion efficiency. And, the conventional forward converter can achieve the good power conversion efficiency with the aid of the low core loss but the input current dead zone near zero cross AC input voltage deteriorates the power factor. On the other hand, since the proposed converter can operate as the forward and flyback converters during switch turn-on and turn-off periods, respectively, it cannot only perform the power transfer during an entire switching period but also achieve the high power factor due to the flyback operation. Moreover, since the current balanced capacitor can minimize the offset current through the transformer magnetizing inductor regardless of the AC input voltage, the core loss and volume of the transformer can be minimized. Therefore, the proposed converter features a high efficiency and high power factor. To confirm the validity of the proposed converter, theoretical analysis and experimental results from a prototype of 24W LED driver are presented.
