  • This paper presents modeling and analysis of static and dynamic characteristics in three phase PWM Boost AC-AC converter used for input voltage sag compensation of custom power. Especially, using circuit DQ transformation technique, an equivalent circuit in fundamental frequency domain is obtained which has all the system characteristics. Moreover, voltage gain and input power factor is analytically induced and linearized state equation at the specific operating point is given. Finally, PSIM simulation results show the validity of the Nosed modelling and analyses.

  • Unbalanced systems, such as distribution systems, have difficulties in fault locations due to single-phase laterals and loads. This paper proposes new fault locations developed by the direct three-phase circuit analysis algorithms using matrix inverse lemma for the line-to-ground fault case and the line-to-line fault case in unbalanced systems. The fault location for balanced systems has been studied using the current distribution factor, by a conventional symmetrical transformation, but that for unbalanced systems has not been investigated due to their high complexity. The proposed algorithms overcome the limit of the conventional algorithm using the conventional symmetrical transformation, which requires the balanced system and are applicable to any power system but are particularly useful for unbalanced distribution systems. Their effectiveness has been proven through many EMTP simulations.

  • Contrasted with the standard symmetric GARCH models, we consider a broad class of threshold-asymmetric models to analyse financial time series exhibiting asymmetric volatility. By further introducing power transformations, we add more flexibilities to the asymmetric class, thereby leading to power transformed and asymmetric volatility models. In particular, the paper is concerned with the nonstationary volatilities in which conditions for integrated volatility and explosive volatility are separately discussed. Dow Jones Industrial Average is analysed for illustration.

  • In this study, we developed a conversion core that produces power by utilizing the unused magnetic field in a switchboard. The conversion core makes it possible to utilize power that is normally wasted. The conversion core is composed of a core, filter, and battery. A prototype was installed in a switchboard to conduct tests on the output, battery storage, and output boosting of multiple batteries. Energy was harvested from the magnetic field generated by a busbar of the switchboard, and the power conversion ratio of the core yielded 1.08-1.01 mW per 1 A of bus current. Supplying this technology to the market after further R&D and commercialization is expected to greatly assist in the dissemination of energy harvesting, which has not yet spread widely to the general public.

  • Partial discharges(PD) in air insulated electric power systems cause power loss, produce interfering electromagnetic radiation, and can indicate incipient failure. An understanding of PD in air gap is clearly important. The Wavelet transformation is an extended method of fourier transformation. The fourier method is a powerful tool for signal analysis, but it can't include informations for time. However tile wavelet transformation analysis can include on the informations of time and frequency at the same time. In this paper we apply the wavelet transformation to the PD signals in needle-plane air gap for tile purpose of analysis of developing aspects of PD. We can analyze the developing aspects of PD, namely, PD current, repetition rates, width of pulse distribution region, pulseless region and frequencies distribution of PD pulses.

  • This paper presents a simple notch filter, which is so suitable for three-phase unbalanced and distorted power line. In the d-q synchronous transformation, three-phase unbalanced and distorted voltages generate lots of ripple voltages on d-q axes. The ripples make disturbances on controllers such as PLL of phase tracking. Unbalanced state makes ripple of double the frequency of power line. Odd harmonics 5th and 7th on the line make even 4th and 6th ripples on d-q axes due to the rotating reference frame, respectively. Cascaded two comb filters, delay lines 1/4T and 1/8T, are adopted for the ripple rejection. The filter rejects harmonics 2nd, 4th, 6th, 10th and so on. They are very effective to remove the ripples of both unbalance and distortion. The filter, implemented by two FIFOs on an experimental system, is adopted on a PLL controller of power line phase tracking. Through the simulation and experimental results, performance of the proposed comb filter has been validated.

  • In this paper, smooth and notched bar tensile tests of austenitic stainless steel 304 are performed, covering four different multi-axial stress states and six different strain rate conditions, to investigate the effect of the stress triaxiality and strain rate on fracture strain. Test data show that the measured true fracture strain tends to decrease with increasing stress triaxiality and strain rate. The test data are then quantified using the Johnson-Cook (J-C) fracture strain model incorporating combined effects of the stress triaxiality and strain rate. The determined J-C model can predict true fracture strain overall conservatively with the difference less than 20%. The conservatism in the strain-based acceptance criteria in ASME B&PV Code, Section III, Appendix FF is also discussed.

  • Zokian(1993) and Li and Li(1996) developed TARCH(Threshold ARCH) model, considering the asymmetries in volatility. The models are based on Engle(1982)'s ARCH model and Bollerslev(1986)'s GARCH model. However, two TARCH models can be expressed a common model through Box Cox Power transformation, which was used by Higgins and Bera(1992) for developing NARCH(nonlinear ARCH) model. This article shows the PTARCH(Power transformation TARCH) model is necessary in some condition, and it checks the fact that PTARCH model has better performance comparing estimates and RMSE(Root Mean Square Error) with those of Zakoian's TARCH model and Li and Li's TARCH model. PTARCH model would give contribution in asymmetric study as well as heteroscedastic study.

  • The anomalous propagation characteristics of a single Airy beam in nonlocal nonlinear medium are investigated by utilizing the split-step Fourier-transform method. We show that besides the normal straight propagation trajectory, the breathing solitons formed by the interaction between Airy beam and nonlocal nonlinear medium can propagate along the sinusoidal trajectory, and the anomalous trajectory can be modulated arbitrarily by altering the initial amplitude and the nonlocal nonlinear coefficient. In addition, the initial amplitude and the nonlocal nonlinear coefficient can have inverse impacts on the formation and transformation of the equilibrium state of spatial solitons, when the two parameters are larger than certain values. Therefore, the reversible transformation of the evolution dynamics of two soliton states can be realized by adjusting those two parameters properly. Finally, it is shown that the propagation properties of the solitons formed by the interaction between Airy beam and nonlocal nonlinear medium can be controlled arbitrarily, by adjusting the distribution factor and nonlocal coefficient.
